    Takes me back to my childhood when my grandmother would take me on bus rides into town to shop. When would visit my mom on her lunch break. Back when the port authority of Allegheny County had all fishbowls

    I had the pleasure of operating a coach like this in the early 80’s. I worked for a transit agency in Los Angeles county, and was fortunate enough to be able to operate this beautiful coach picking up passengers.

    My biggest two memories of these buses are just how seriously loud they were and a hat about half of them were running around with their rear engine bay doors flapping around and every time a bus pulled away from a stop the doors would swing open 1 or 2 feet.

    I drove these "Fishbowls" out of Philly. (Septa) in the late 70's they were so worn out and ready for the junk yard.

    I spent many many hours in those vehicles. Washington DC (DC Transit) was buying those buses as fast as they could be made. Hard to believe how nice it was to ride in Air conditioning during the humid how Washington DC summers. And the air ride made those horrible DC streets like velvet smooth roads

    That is a beautiful, GM "fishbowl" in incredibly nice condition inside and out. How is it that a transit bus that old has such relatively low mileage? Thanks for sharing!

    • @busesforsale3116
      @busesforsale3116  Před 3 lety +8

      This bus was purchased new by the Ohio Highway Patrol who used to transport Swat officers. They didn’t use it a whole lot because it only has 60,000 original miles.

    • @billmoran3812
      @billmoran3812 Před rokem +3

      All GM buses had transverse engines. Those were a 6V-71 engines which were a V6 turned so both cylinder heads were accessible from the rear. For major service, the entire engine and transmission could be removed easily on its cradle. A new or rebuilt engine could be reinstalled in a few hours.
