Now, some actual advice! You needed to knead the dough on the table to give it the "smooth" look. You push the dough with the heel of your palm and take the excess dough in front of your hand, and fold it back onto the dough. Then repeat the process for a good 15-20 minutes, until it's a homogenous, silky ball.Then put it back into the bowl to let it proof. Kneading the dough will fully incorporate and hydrate the flour, and develop the gluten for the dough to rise in the oven and give a good texture. For shaping, tip your dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out into a log. then you can take a bench scraper or a knife to cut portions out. Hope it helps if you want to try again!

He was probably weighing them with a scale because the recipe was in grams. So leveling the cups would be pointless because you need the weight not the volume ♡

@@momorg2867 he was using cups to measure not a scale (an assumption based on the fact we don't see a scale in the video and after he puts the first cup in he says it needs another fifty and switches cups) and like I use to think he probably thought that the mls written on most cups was equal to grams so the recipe would have been off cause dry weight vs liquid weight
@@lujayn3 those were dry measuring cups and since England solely uses the metric system it’s quite likely the cups are labeled in grams and he definitely should’ve done a better job of filling and levelling the cups

Actually it isn’t like that, water makes it smoother.
It's dough. Dough is sticky. Sure it may not be the easiest and cleanest to handle but it's likely not "too wet" just sticky. If you are going to add flour to it until it doesn't stick then I don't really know what you get, maybe dry isn't the right word but rather dense? Perfect consistency for cooking and perfect consistency for not sticking may be completely different things.

Baking tips for Pewds:
1. It seems like you measured the flower by the ml written on them. Don't do that, use a scale. That might be why you had less dough than needed to make 24 pcs.
2. Look for the dough description on the recpie. If it's stickier than what is written, add more flower. If it's crumbly - first try to kneed the breas more and see if it combines, and if not, add more water, but just A TAD, then try to combine again.
3. After the cooling, FLOUR YOUR HANDS repeatedly, keep them floured! This will makes handling easier and prettier.
4. Even if they stick to the rolling pin, it's ok. If it was floured properly, they should come off of it easily. It's actually a known method to lift large areas of dough.
5. Don't give up! When baking a recepie for the first time, it's SUPER important to follow the instructions word by word. After you get the hang of it you can try to refine it. In the end you'll always have Swedish bread every day you'll want!

I do really like these types of videos. I like how it doesn't really feel like Felix is talking to me camera, it's more personal. I think it's all a learning experience. And you will know how to do it better next time. Also, watching someone else make them first is a good visual guide. Mix the dry ingredients first so the YEEST gets evenly distributed, that’s why it didn’t rise. Then don’t add so much water just work the dough and knead it longer. Then the other steps should go more smoothly.

"Why are they so sticky?" Well actually when you knead the dough long enough it cleans up your hands and it doesn't stick anymore. That's what a lot of people get wrong, so what you want to get from it is that kneading longer is better than not enough
