- Anita Chandradath Singh, through an engaging narrative and sensitive visualization, traces the history, sociology, religions, cultural practices and traditions of the people of Indian decent in Trinidad and Tobago. The documentary establishes the lasting legacy, vibrant even today, of the shiploads of Indian indentured workers, brought to the islands during British colonial rule. Their toil and hard work saved a failing sugar cane industry. 'Yatra - The Journey of the Indian Presence in Trinidad and Tobago' was created in 1995 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Indian Arrival Day. Indian Arrival Day is a national holiday and falls on May 30th, each year. This is a compilation of the 25 part documentary series.
I'm Indian born in England...but with no roots. Your work makes me feel less alone. Thank you so much🙏🏽❤👑💯
Being from Surinam. I thank you for telling our ancestors story. We need to unite and show the world our strength!
That is why Indians Lives Matter too, the sacrifices they made to build T&T.

They brought them to undermine the free black labor in the Caribbean, they didn't even know where they were going they thought they were going to another part of India fool.
My hearty congratulations to all the brothers and sisters of Indian descent. When sitting in India (Iam in Calicut, Kerala) I can understand the difficulties your great grand parents might have faced for a better life. My forefathers might also have had their struggles with life. I can at this age empathize more with Indian Diaspora now. We respect you, and value your identity as your own respective countries valued citizens and also for your longing for Indianness, the Indian soul. I think all human beings are emotionally connected to their grandparents place of origin. So, , brethren, all Indians are yours too , brothers and sisters. We are also happy that as the respective citizens of your countries, you are valued and loved by all other groups of the citizens, and the togetherness is creating renewed vitality and inspired everyday life. So. Great living and all the best wishes at all times.

amazing documentary! Love knowing more about knowing our diaspora.
Excellent Production. Thanks very much for your work. I am going through my grandfather diaries too and putting together something for my family. I've been working on music and pictures and a few interviews. This is truly an inspiration. I am originally from Guyana and spent sometime in Trinidad in 1966 as a kid. Cheers.
Thank you...Our grandma came to Trinidad and Tobago from India... Very interesting.. Great job!!! History...
Which Year She Came @ Where Abt From India ?
Very well prepared and presented. It's been a glimpse into the past more heartening is that the descendants have preserved their customs, culture, religion and language. You also make your presence felt while playing cricket matches for the West Indies and it feels great when Kallicharan , Rohan Kanhai, Shivnarine , Ramnaresh or Ravi Rampaul shine.
Greats like Sir Vidiya Dhar Naipaul and Vasudev Pande associate themselves with India.
I feel like flying over that land and meet some of these very people.
Me too, hopefully.
Very interesting and informative 👍. Thanks 😊
Very interesting
So great of you.
So now Mrs. Anita Chandradath Singh has her own channel on CZcams, after Visual Arts Productions posted material from her show Hum Safar (1987)- good luck auntie!!!
Jai Shri ram happy new year

Important historical story overpowered by the background music that makes it painful to watch. I’d lower or eliminate the music track and re-release the video.
Commentary and background should alternate, not go on together. It’s very difficult to understand the commentary with the music blocking the audibility and clarity!
Its a shame how this rich culture has been systematically undermined and corrupted by the political forces. In the 3 decades since this documentary was produced, indian culture is a mere caricature of the vibrancy shown here. Sad...
New on there's
Great production and show of th e Hindu Indian culture. Very informative However not much of the Muslim Jndians who also contributed to the society. Hosay represents a minority not the majority of Muslims in Trinidad. Perhaps one day a better portray of all of the Indians that came to Trinidad can be produced. Thank you for your time and efforts.
+Zalaka A. Melbourne, Australia. Well said. For many, Indians=Hindi-speaking Hindus. The other groups are not part of the Indian diasporas.
The music killed the documentary became annoying but interesting heritage

Aside from the content, it was a bit tiresome listening to A C S . A more 'natural' speaking tone - would have made this more interesting.

A History of Modern Trinidad by Bridget Brereton . Chapter 6 The Newcomers explains how Indians saved the economy at that time. Read a little history.
Who said only Indian came in Trinidad and Tobago My ancestor came from Lahore so its make us Pakistani , hey Gal you don't mention us . My ancestor are not in T&T but also settle in Mauritius I love all my west indies friend , I love socca and Reggie music .I love double channa But my ancestor are from Pakistan. I wish India and Pakistan become ones again and forgive each other
There is no Pakistan existed before 1947 ... Understand the history and moveon
There was no pakistan before 1947. This immigration happened in late 1800s to early 1900s.
True, but the south Asians have been there before partition. Ask any indo carribean about that and they won’t know much about it. That’s the difference.
+Iqbal H. "I wish India and Pakistan become ones again and .........". Is this really your wish that Pakistan be put under criminal Modi's and BJP control? If that your wish, then you should consult a psychologist/mental health specialist.
