He handled it perfectly. He didn’t abuse it. And didn’t even slam the dog. Didn’t lose focus. The issue is he did a non-verbal correction. Dealing with a suspect right there, it could be bad if he starts yelling commands and then confuses the suspect, or draws the other deputies attention away from the suspect. As a handler I agree, they probably knew it was an issue, but it’s also one to duplicate it in training to be able to correct it during training. They are animals, you can’t tell what they are thinking each time you try to recreate it. And you don’t want to stand there and get them amped up in the zone, and start sticking your legs, arms, and hands next to them to see if they will do it. All your doing is teasing them, and their natural reaction is to act on it, and then to correct them, when you made them do it in the first place is not going to do anything. His hands were completely clear and the dog just reached out to try to free himself, same as dogs do when they bite a leash. His dog was wagging the tail the entire time. Redirection happens, it’s just getting the timing right to correct it. They could have just came from another call and the dog was ramped up from that and didn’t get a bite. And instead of letting it play for a little, it had to go to this call.
As a mom, I don’t understand why discipline is viewed negatively. Punishment is needed and it’s just a fact of life. We have a large segment of society that fears that word which is bizarre to me. If you watch momma with her pups it's the same way. Pup gets nasty and momma corrects it immediately. Discipline is a key factor in training.

Agree 100%, let's quit sugar coating everything and those who don't have the experience and don't know what they're talking about should STFU. Meanwhile, to be fair, I live in Riverside County and have trained at Adlerhorst with Dave Reaver and Riverside Sheriff K-9 officers. They are also excellent trainers. In fact, Dave Reaver was literally training police dogs before you were born and does not hesitate to correct them when necessary. I don't recognize the Deputy or the dog, but it certainly appears that they both may be a little green. Riverside is a conservative area and the sheriff is excellent. I think they will say they're going to investigate and refresh training or something to that effect to shut them up.
People crying 'that's so horrible!' at doing whatever's needed to condition a dog to stop biting you. Yeah, turns out getting bit is pretty horrible too.
You speak from my heart about our society beeing too soft! I say the same, but nobody seems to understand!! I don´t know where this will end. Greetings from Germany!
Ur gonna be even more on the floor when you learn that the infamous ceasar the whisperer failed a basic theory test that k9 handlers do in germany 😂😂😂.....
@@K9inc722k9 handlers are trained in specific areas. A k9 handler is not gonna be able to train a service dog to detect for eg low blood sugar. A service dog trainer is not going to be training a search and rescue dog. Totally Different disciplines, totally different skill sets. So whats your point apart from trying to take a cheap dig.
@@K9inc722 Ceasar Milan is a joke, tbqh. He's a showboater and a TV personality, same as Victoria Stilwell and Quack George, just on the opposite extreme (same with that Ceasar-wannabe Dog Daddy). The world REALLY needs more trainers like Haz, Ivan Balabanov, etc...
Haz, thank you for the video and your comments. You are so right on. GSD purebred puppies are just like toddlers at a young age and require alot of traing. Just like humans a mother has to shape her child and learn. You spoke the truth tonight. Thanks.
Wow I didn't expect that from the intro 😆 the handler.. handled that so well and calm. They didn't even get anything bad on camera🤔🤯 smh.. what is the world coming to 🤦♀️
Haz, Riverside County California resident here. That officer handled that situation perfectly! Swift reaction, concise and fair correction followed by redirection, a wagging tail and a return back to teamwork. Great job Shane! Thank you Haz for your EDUCATED, PROFESSIONAL review and commentary. 😁👍👍👍👍👍
That really wasn't a correction, it certainly didn't fit the crime.(dog biting him). That dog will redirect on him again. Have you ever been bit by a malinios or any police/sport dog?
I'm not one to leave comments left and right, but I will just leave this short one here. Haz, you are so on the money with this video, there's really nothing more to add ! I agree 200% 👌
As a resident of Riverside Co. CA - I woke up this morning to a 'Press Release' from RCRSO saying they are reviewing the incident. From the comments, I expected that something horrible happened. This is the first time I actually saw the video and OMG what are people thinking? I think the deputy acted with great restraint. Sheriff Chad Bianco is very fair and level headed, I'm counting on him. BTW, my 'pet' tried to join a dog fight, I grabbed her collar and she turned on me. My response was far more aggressive than that of the Deputy in question. This 120 lb woman flipped her and pinned that 65 lb dog to the ground by her neck. She'll never try that again. Thank you for your insight. It is appreciated.
Haz, I couldn't agree with you more. Society is screwed. I'm a dire hard fan of strong dogs, and to be honest the caliber of dog I admire is almost non-existent nowadays. That is a light correction. Had it been me, he would have been body slammed on the pavement and my size 13 boot going into its rib cage and chest. I don't tolerate disrespect from dogs. People need to realize when dogs resolve issues amongst themselves they utilize teeth! TEETH!!! Teeth do more damage than fists or feet. People went to the Malinois because it possessed more drive than the German Shepherd; however, they realized it was more drive than they could handle. The Malinois was not designed to be a pet and should have been left in the hands of the few people that can handle and understand the breed. It kills me that the term "level headed" is used heavily as a top-3 adjective to describe police, military, and even protection dogs. When criminals start becoming level headed and bullets start becoming sociable that is when I will become concerned with whether s dog is level headed. I want a dog that can take care of business first and foremost.
More drive? 😆....a good gsd can do everything a mal does ,with even more intensity while being less hectic in its work or behavior ....big difference between being hectic and posessing more drive ...the nr of sub par mals and dutchies on various dept dont get talked enough...a good dog is a good dog ,its hard already nowadays to find a reliable dog for apprehension work whether its gsd or mal or dutchy...and the dogs you seek for ,are out there ...just need to know the right folks...also if ur gonna body slam and break a dog ribs for a simple frustration bite ,the damage would be so severe the dog may need a long lay off or get retired ,whoever taught u that as a correction method is a sub par trainer
I saw similar answer to this from dog trainer Robert Cabral. And how I said...I am amateur but I agree how police officer was handling situation. There is no time to think what to do. He did great. I achieved difficult dog as a amateur. It's my first one. And I did 2.5 months positive bullshit. My dog was abused before by previous owner and was growling on my parents just if they sat on my sofa. Luckily my mind was enlightened and I turned into real training. And yes, I use punishment. But my dog is now very friendly and not growling on my parents anymore.😂❤ Just one difficult dog, my first dog in life changed my opinion about just positive force free training. Before I was too very much sensitive towards punishments in dog training. But why? Because I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT.😂
My Malinois redirected on me when I stopped her from killing my GSD when I first brought him home. I immediately turned up her ecollar and pressed that button while letting her know that is absolutely not acceptable. She never went after the puppy again and has never tried to bite mom again. (Malinois is a little over 3 now and the GSD is 1 1/2.)
And these same people would immediately medicate this dog for “behaviour problem” which is sick. I see medication being recommended for things like leash reactivity for non working pet dogs wayyy too frequently. But if you so much bring up common sense balanced training- they ban you from commenting. But meds are allowed to be suggested by the average commentator. What in the bizarro world? They would rather sedate than actually communicate in the doggie language because it’s against their beliefs. These people are so lazy and sick.
Yes it is horrible cops dont just hold back on correcting the dogs its hesitant to shoot a violent suspect at the expense of their own lives and their fellow officers lives because of the media. Active self protection channel says this over and over and over. Society is so back wards. 100% agree
This was one of the greatest monologue's on dog training I have ever heard. As a veteran military working dog handler (1981-1985) I agree with your assessment of the video. I myself have been bitten in training and strung the dog up by their leash till they passed out. You are no good to the dog if your tore up and in the hospital. The dog is a working dog and needs to be working, and to make that happen you have to be the animals boss plain and simple. Sounds rough to civilian's, not to the handler holding the leash. I am a new subscriber to Shield K9 and love the great job your doing
Had the same situation with my Caucasian who tried to bite me when barking at my gate.Tried to redirect his bite back to me. I disciplined him there and then and he NEVER did it again. Turned out to be a fantastic loyal boy who gave me years of service . I've seen some food possessive dogs act in the same way.
I live in Riverside County and their sheriff's dept. has a track record of putting dogs to work that are not ready and when I say that I mean their dogs just all seem unfinished. I do not blame the dog I blame the trainers and handlers. I have also seen well-trained dogs paired with ill-equipped handlers where the dog is trying to do its job and the handler is giving the dog such chaotic mixed signals the outcome is a disaster. I have witnessed it firsthand. A perp. was hiding in a shed, and they sent the dog in after him (he was bent down hiding behind an old car) the guy kissed to the dog and the dog licked his face and wagged its tail. The dog did not alert so they called the dog back and looked elsewhere. The dogs they send to sniff out drugs and or search for something, those dogs will mark at anything because they want their reward. It is the Sheriff's fault 100%.
I trained at one of the largest LE canine facilities on the East Coast. Their narcotics dogs were atrocious. Very clearly were not proofed off of handler indicators. I'm former LE and I shudder to think how badly they screw people over with false probable cause by getting their dogs to give false indications at the handler's convenience. Very disappointing coming from extensive military and private security standards to see how low the canine handler teams were in LE. Very much a lowest common denominator and safeguards to certify undeserving teams.
That is a big part of the problem in many parts of the U.S. I train with K9 handlers, lived next to active duty LEO and am friends with a LEO who quit because of the politics involved to become a LE K9 handler within the depts. Haz also talks about putting 'control' on the dog. Most K9 handlers have bought into the whole "control is for sport dogs" idea that gets pushed. Plus, more malinois and dutch shepherds are being used, given to handlers that aren't well trained and they are getting bitten.
You 100% correct your dog must understand biting the hand that feed you. It’s a no, no .cop did a great job correcting the situation dog teeth are not a game
Dude, I have a cat that had to learn the hard way to be gentle. She was a beast as a kitten. How else am I going to correct a pet that is clearly so destructive and aggressive that it makes living in a household with it a literal nightmare. This cat is mentally the strongest cat I have ever had and now, after learning how to be around humans, furniture and dogs, she became a sweet, loving and fearless cat. Same goes with my dog. He also had to learn that biting is not a way to get things.
Good video, real raw explanation NO bullshit. People need to get out of their emotional bubbles and see dogs for what they are. Like you said he was not able to do what he needed to do to the dog because he was on camera. They are trying to equal us humans to animals. It's like we all lost care for eachother as humans. "oh but the dog, he slammed an he..." What about the guy and his hand??! People are living in a dream because of all of this online stuff.
Thank you 👍 The key is emotional training - expressing understandable for the dog what you really want of him /don't want of him Thinking that's what the society lost between humans and humans and animals
I mean........ The officer handled that EXTREMELY calmly. I am impressed. That was not even SLIGHTLY abusive. It was a reaction to being bitten in the hand. That is crazy that they are calling that abuse for goodness' sake. I am on the officer's side for sure this time.
Haze at first I didn’t know how to express my feelings about your video. I think you just raised my hope that there are still many guys with balls out there. Doing what it takes, saying what should be said and not caring about reactions. Keep it up.
My hat goes off to you, this world needs more people like you, speaking out, without being scared to be labeled as an abuser. Too many morons out there thinking everything is fixable with love and treats.
Amen 🙏🙏🙏 you couldn't have said it better. 💯 I just recently found your vids n really love the way you handle your dogs n the way they respond to you. Bad to the bone ❤ Impressive, Beautiful 💯
Should a dog at that level of training be allowed on the streets? Is there a risk to compliant suspects or even the public if the dog's drive is not controlled?
This happens with high drive dogs occasionally. Nothing is wrong with that dog. He just had a moment and needed to be corrected. High drive dogs test handlers from time to time. Comes with the territory. I wouldn't have mine any other way.
@@ericandrews1661 These small town local cops are gonna get in trouble with the feds who presumably are allowed to do whatever they want in terms of violence against animals and lower people, this is only to your advantage. Even if the local cops are themselves way too happy to comply with and enforce tyranny you ought to take their side.
My apbt weight pulling dog LOVED it soooooo much ! She just couldn’t wait !!!!! Started redirecting her frustration at the wait to pull … well we went and had a training ‘talk ‘ .. she didn’t do that anymore . Couldn’t have my pit grabbing me by the arm . Didn’t change her drive to pull . 50lbs dog . 3580lbs pull . 2nd only to a 80 lbs male that show.
Haz is the first person I’ve heard speak about this so far (besides my IGP training director) who actually questioned the training leading up to this where the K9 was redirecting in a way that clearly wasn’t the first time
I have never commented on anything like this. Never thought I would. But Haz... thank you! Total sense, total agreement with you. Its reassuring to see someone like you.
SHIELD🛡️K-9 ,,I agree with you 💯percent with everything you said.. And u know what, it’s not just a problem with humans directed at animals but also humans directed at humans but im sure u know that already !! The worlds gone nuts , I feel ya 👍
Many agencies follow a trend ....theyre copycats ....sure there are some strong mals out there but u can find strong gsd-s too with a bit more difficulty ....many mistake the mal hectic characteristics as drive and quality of work ....mals also mature quicker so there is less of a training cost but theyre easily ruined by sub optimal training
According to handler's who commented on this video there is no abuse. So please people who have no clue just shut your Yap. I'm one who no nothing about handling dogs
I think people don’t understand the level of dog these things are compared to your little pooch at home. When you’re around them and understand their level, You quickly realize they’re way above you in strength and you have to meet them where they are. Even a play bite hurts like you wouldn’t believe. That feeling of your tendons moving around when they bite you feels awful lol.
One thing the “cowboy” lets fight it out trainers will all tell you is that one of theyre limbs dont work like it used too before ....if u get bitten multiple times seriously ,nerve damage is a real thing ....
Positive only ! What people tend to forget is that positive is ADD something. it being renforcement OR punishement. Those people don't even understand what they are defending..
Finally someone with common sense! I raise standard poodles and have a rottweiler. All together 14 dogs. People ask me all the time how I manage to keep order in my home. I tell them its discipline and being the leader. I know standard poodles are viewed as froo froo dogs but their bite still hurts! 😅 People get mad at me because I refuse to call them my children. They're not my children, they're my dogs. I'm sorry but I'm not a furmomma. Society has gone mad!
My dogs may be my "babies" but you won't ever see me babying them. These are ANIMALS. They will be treated as such. When I need to deliver a correction I feel no shame. Act better next time, you know better.
Mr. Haz I love your video here and what you said. I know I’m not a dog expert in training or health or any other area, though I feel that you are correct. Every dog I’ve owned I’ve trained myself, basics like heel, sit, come lay down etc. I enjoy watching your channel and many others and hope one day I can get a good puppy from you and work together with you or someone like you to get a perfectly trained protection dog. I would be a dream of mine, actually! Side note I think the handler did a great job and I hope he has ok and his hand isn’t too messed up! Have a great day Sir!
I said it out loud before you said it in the video. I totally agree that it is abusive to not fix the problem. I went to puppy kindergarten with other owners who wouldn’t hold their puppies down when they got out of control. Sure, owner, save your dog from knowing who is boss when it weighs 15 pounds. Great decision.
I agree with your sentiments Haz. While not a trainer of anything but my own dogs from age 13, (given my age now, I was taught obedience the old fashion way, but I've kept learning and transforming), I know from experience what it's like to have those teeth coming at me and getting me. Thankfully I was an adult when I had to deal with aggression and biting. Not a little nip either, it was fast and quite furious and anyone with a wee bit of survival instincts, or dog experience, will react and it won't be with a cookie. It has to be stopped immediately. Stopping them isn't cruel, it's necessary. You don't have to be a professional trainer to know this. You are quite right, humanity has turned into a marshmallow. To criticize a man for reacting to stop his dog from continuing to bite him, is quite absurd, his reaction was pretty quick too. They are putting it in slow -mo to make what he did look bad. I learned the hard way how to deal with my 'hard', somewhat out of control dog and lived to tell about it. Would I be accused of animal cruelty today? Likely so, if that cop did. My dog, by the way, lived a full, happy bite free life afterward. It was a terrible first two years, but somewhat free sailing after that. Training I believe occurs for the life of the dog. Where were you 30 years ago Sheild K9.. ;-) You have more people than you think on your side. Your way simply makes sense to sane people... hoping others get their heads out if the sand or humanity doesn't have much hope.
Thank f*ck someone can just speak the truth loud and clear. The "If you do redirect on daddy, I will make it the worst day of your life" is spot on. It''s tough love, and it doesn't sound pretty. But that's reality.
it was nothing more than an auto response from the officer in response to pain, if he was abusing the dog he would have beat him all the way to the van...big difference in aggression control and aggressive abuse.
Amazing. This "protestor" goes from being arrested to getting airtime and expressing concern regarding K9 operations. 🙄

Thanks.
Typical great take from Haz. Officer handled this very professionally for the camera. Respect
Haz bringing the HEAT!
Why didn’t you show up and counter protest on Saturday?
That really wasn't a correction, it
certainly didn't fit the crime.(dog biting him).
That dog will redirect on him again.
Have you ever been bit by a malinios or any police/sport dog?
@@gojohnnygo2021 What protest and counter protest? Don't think much about protesters.
@@danielstover3029 there was a protest at police station to get officer fired on Saturday.

But why? Because I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT.😂
Cop reacts perfectly
My Malinois redirected on me when I stopped her from killing my GSD when I first brought him home. I immediately turned up her ecollar and pressed that button while letting her know that is absolutely not acceptable. She never went after the puppy again and has never tried to bite mom again. (Malinois is a little over 3 now and the GSD is 1 1/2.)
This is probably my favorite video you’ve ever posted.
100% agree
Talk your shit man, loved the fuck out of this could not agree more
It's worse than people think. You can get an infection.
Always stay up to date on your tetanus shots, folks.
The public has no idea about working dogs.
I am a new subscriber to Shield K9 and love the great job your doing
not even a spec of abuse seen in this video at all. or even anything that that handler did wrong or even overboard.
I think this is one of my favorite Haz videos!
The best use of STFU I've ever heard !! Educate the world brother
This is about an hour from me and the animal rights people all over are freaking tf out 😒
Haz 💯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💯
I have shown my dog Jesus for less. Never happened again and we have a better relationship than I see with many other dog owners.
People forget - handlers/owners either teach their dogs not to bite, or the dogs die. What worst? Punishment or death?
Thank you 👍
The key is emotional training - expressing understandable for the dog what you really want of him /don't want of him
Thinking that's what the society lost between humans and humans and animals
Thank you. You gave a science based explanation.👍
The handler responded correctly. Prior to the bite, the handler was NOT handling the dog, correctly.
Best rant ever, man. You are the voice of common sense in a sea of idiots...
You made me laugh so much. You were so right about what you said but it's the way you said it. People are so stupid when it comes to any animal.
Amen 🙏🙏🙏 you couldn't have said it better. 💯 I just recently found your vids n really love the way you handle your dogs n the way they respond to you. Bad to the bone ❤ Impressive, Beautiful 💯
Absolutely brilliant 😇
Should a dog at that level of training be allowed on the streets? Is there a risk to compliant suspects or even the public if the dog's drive is not controlled?
Bootlickers don't care, as long as their precious cops don't get bitten.
Right on Haz
I’m glad everyone is not soft 🤦🏽♂️
Amen, Haz! Across the board.
All truth.
Well, I hope that this police officer gives you a call to help this dog
SHIELD🛡️K-9 ,,I agree with you 💯percent with everything you said.. And u know what, it’s not just a problem with humans directed at animals but also humans directed at humans but im sure u know that already !! The worlds gone nuts , I feel ya 👍
One of the reasons I think the LE drive to move away from the Shepherd to the Malinois was and is a mistake.
🎯
These people probably think buddy should of thrown a treat on the floor when he got bit 😂😅
Love your straightforward approach to training and you don’t talk shit! 👍🇦🇺🐾
Ps if I was in Canada , I would be asking for a job 💯👊🏻
Yes! Thank you, finally some words of wisdom.
You are the voice of reason.🥰
You’re right!
I absolutely love this video. I second everything u said u couldn't have said it better.
You are exactly right. This society has lost its mind.
13:43 Victoria stillwell😂😂😂😂.....that news made my day!!! 😁
According to handler's who commented on this video there is no abuse. So please people who have no clue just shut your Yap. I'm one who no nothing about handling dogs
Thanks!
Haz is a direct badman😂😂. Man said “Victoria Stilwell 👺”
Thank you! I hate the fur parent trend.
Thanks for the content!
I wish i could express my thoughts as clearly as you always do. Well said Haz The Great Othman hahaha
Right on 👍
Word!
I completely agree with what you are saying 100 percent!!!! Your a very intelligent man who knows what he is talking about.
Where were you 30 years ago Sheild K9.. ;-)
You have more people than you think on your side. Your way simply makes sense to sane people... hoping others get their heads out if the sand or humanity doesn't have much hope.
Occasionally my Mal twists when bite training, being held by the harness. My dog has never bitten me, or even tried, but I can see how some would.
To compel is not abuse! Thanks for teaching honestly. Every word out of your mouth was truth.
💯
Thank f*ck someone can just speak the truth loud and clear.
The "If you do redirect on daddy, I will make it the worst day of your life" is spot on. It''s tough love, and it doesn't sound pretty. But that's reality.
it was nothing more than an auto response from the officer in response to pain, if he was abusing the dog he would have beat him all the way to the van...big difference in aggression control and aggressive abuse.
Great review Haz. Great job Shane! We’re not all stupid!
