Thanks for sharing your instructions, well explained. I have a '08 Pontiac Torrent with 115,000 miles. The fluid came out black as crude oil. I guess that's why first gear whined so loud and whining louder shifting into 2nd gear. I used the blue bottle of Valvoline for Imports that says for GM T-IV on the back side. There is Valvoline V in a blue bottle also. Both were mixed up on the shelf at the auto parts store and I picked up one of the V bottles and took it back. Looking at the Valvoline pdf guide online it said V is for M/B, Jaguar, Land Rover if I remember correctly. I can still hear first gear whining just a little but much less noticeable. As dark as the fluid was I will change it again next year. Thanks again for the video and for the tip on Lube Guard.
I changed out trans fluid on similar model (don't remember the year) for one of my grandsons several years ago (prior to your helpful video.) Don't recall the method I used but I was able to remove the motor mount after the three bolts were out. My problem was when I replaced the motor mount I had a difficult time re-aligning the bolts. Worked for over an hour trying to figure out what went wrong. Finally realized the motor (?) must have shifted. Used a small floor jack to lift the lower section under lower bolt (all of about 1 inch) and presto...easy peasy. Just adding this tip should anyone else have a similar problem. Thanks again for posting.....wish I had thought of making a video when I changed mine.
Thanks for the info. I tried removing the motor mount by jacking engine up, lowering, etc. never could remove it. There is another comment that says that he removed it. It is strange that you can remove some and not others.
Thank You Randy for the Tips !:-) The One about Measuring the Old drain fluid, Then adding the same amount you drained ...Is Great !!!:-):-):-) My Friend is a Stickler to that Method !:-) BLESS YOU & THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME !!!:-):-):-)
Awesome video never new Chevy had Toyota making their transmission of and I learned not to buy one this is rediculous. Everything is about money now days.
Randy, thanks very much for your awesome video. Your careful step-by-step approach gives me the confidence to check my trans. Although I had a dealer change the fluid at 100 k, now at 178k the trans shift is hesitating when coming up to highway speed. Might add the additive, might just live with it. Anyway, thanks again!
I already liked this video but had to comment as well. This video was clear and informative and allowed me, a total non-mechanic, to fill the leaking transmission on my 2009 Torrent. Great content! Thank you so much.
JWS 3309 is the spec for this fluid, I use it in my Volvo and Equinox, fluids like max life are designed to work in multiple transmissions, there are differing opinions on the "correct" fluid vs "compatible" fluid like max life. Never had any issues with either.
I know this video was done a few years ago yet great instruction yet as I’ll be doing mine soon I did question what I just purchased is the Max Life Dexron (6) for high mileage bc I haven’t found the ATF T-IV yet my Chevy manual states to use. So now I’m going to try and find again but I was told they had stopped making it and that the max life was compatible but I’m going to try again unless you’d think that it’s okay to use. Also, I plan to use the lube gard additive also. Again great video 😃
Hi Randy , I had to replay the first part a few times you said Toyota Transmission. I have a 2007 AWD and looking to replace the fluid . Is yours AWD is that the OPT 45 model ? Thanks for the great video by the way.
I was able to get the mount completely out. I twisted it and pushed it up, then it came out. I had to heat the engine to get the dipstick to break free.
Hey Randy, thanks a ton for this video. I have a 2009 3.4 v6 awd equinox. So the same thing your working on. I'm unfamiliar with reading this style of dipstick. I'm currently in the middle of changing the tranny fluid. I've drained the old fluid, a little under 4 quarts came out. I put 4 quarts back in. My question to you is: After you replaced your fluid where did your fluid levels fall on the dipstick? With the motor cold, I'm showing a little over halfway on the cold area. I haven't started it yet to get a hot reading. But in your opinion what would be an acceptable reading on the dipstick?
Your level is probably ok. The fluid rises quite a bit when it gets hot. You can check it hot if you are worried about it. If there are no external leaks, and presumably the level was ok before you drained it, and you put in the same amount that you drained, it’s probably ok.
@@randytempleton5797 , thank you. I just got done with this job and you were right. Didn't need to add fluid at all. Thank you for this video though. I would have spent hours trying to get around the motor mount for the dipstick.
Hi. I have a Nox 06 I guess is the same transmission. My first question is, how is your transmission after changing the fluid... And my second question is do you know the torque for the mount and the drain plug? Thank you for working on Nox!
Sebastian Gomez Trans is ok after new fluid. I changed it for maintenance reasons, it was due. Don’t know the torque specs. Sorry. I have a torque wrench built into my arm. Lol. Been wrenching 39 years.
Thank Randy I'm about to service my 2006 LT. It has 78000 miles. Just check the fluid and looks little dark...I have no problem with transmission but is worth the maintenance to preserve it... Thanks for sharing ur experience. Will tell you my results...
Hi Randy, Thank you for the video. You said in the video that you take out the motor mount the engine did not move. Are you sure? Did you use any engine support bar on the engine top or jack under the engine? The engine won't drop down?
Randall Lee The engine will not move. This is a motor mount but not a main one. Is more for stability. Loosen all of the bolts up before you remove them, just to make sure that engine doesn’t move. Let me know.
@@randytempleton5797 Hi Randy, Thank you for the video again. I changed my 2008 Pontiac Torrent transmission fluid yesterday. Same as you say, the engine did not move at all. I still put a jack stand under it in case. The engine mount is easy to take off. After the 4 bolts off, you just need to put the mount(have rubber inside) up and rotate it to the passenger's side then it will off. I found my fluid come from the factory is more than yours. Do not attempt to service the filter if you do the transmission will be unusable and you will have to get a replacement these transmissions are a special type of sealed core that once it is disassembled it requires a rebuild, I had one equinox totaled because someone tried to find the filter, a rebuilt transmission in 2012 cost more than the cars value. Don’t do it!!
Look at 5:11 on video. Where my fingers are holding the dipstick on the flange above o-ring. See if you can get a small screwdriver under flange and gently pry up on it. You might try to gently twist dipstick also, to break it loose.
You might check the fluid level. If the check engine light is on, and the car will make it that far, go to a parts store and have the codes scanned. Parts stores usually do this for free.

Does the 2006 have pads or bisc breaks in the back
John Chic Sr Not sure on the 2006. Sorry. You can look through the wheel and see if it has disc or drum brakes.
2006 is drum brakes in rear disc in front
Where do you refill the fluid?
Kim Oliver Through the dipstick hole, with the orange funnel set-up.
After 10-15 mins of driving the transmission doesn’t want to work correctly. The car doesn’t want to pull off or change gears. What could that be?
You might check the fluid level. If the check engine light is on, and the car will make it that far, go to a parts store and have the codes scanned. Parts stores usually do this for free.
