THIS WAS THE BEST VIDEO ON THIS SUBJECT I'D SEEN! I viewed quit a few videos on removing the frozen lower bearing and mine is a doozie! A 1986 Husqvarna 400wr with a nasty frozen bearing. I have a 6 ton press and it worked like a dream. I saw guys using $200 tools to remove and install this bearing and they are not needed . Just a 6.00 dollar piece of pipe from home depot and BOOM! I know that this video is a bit older but I wanted to thank you for making it I am fixing a second Gen. S V6 50 with a vet steering system I crashed as a novice Racer and you just helped me get a bike running that has been sitting For probably 2 years

It helps to provide some heat from a butane torch, around the bottom of the clamp, this expands the base and it will come apart easier (heat and WD-40 is even better). I have had some totally seized and applied heat and WD-40 daily for a week first. Heated again before pressing apart and it virtually fell apart. When reassembling, put the stem in the freezer the night before. It will press into the lower clamp easier.
I will try that next time. I noticed when I finally tried using heat and cold to install wheel bearings it was waaaaay easier. So surprising how much it helps to heat the hub and freeze the bearings. Next stem I press in and out ill see how much it helps. Thanks
@@nickbuchananracing I restore old bikes as much as 80 yrs old. The gas torch and WD-40 (or diesel fuel) have been my best friends for 30 years. That and patience. Too many times parts are ruined or more work is created due to impatience. I just spent 5 weeks heating and oiling the screw on collars on some Matchless 'Jampot' rear shocks. Bare steel on alloy. Seized solid. Heated and oiled three times a week. Eventually came apart easy as, with no damage to either part. Very important given the cost of locating good replacements (known as unobtanium). 👍

Really helpful thanks, we tried to hammer ours out and it was having none of it so it will go to a local engineer now who has a press.
Yea it seems to be the only way. Too much for hand tools, gotta break out the big guns!
