It worked!! As mentioned in previous comments, just make sure your internet signal is disconnected or else the date will reset whenever you restart. Once I shut the WiFi router off, these simple steps worked perfectly. Thanks so much!

Absolute champion! Worked a treat for me. I was stuck in an installable OS boot loop. Changed the date, boom! Restarted, reinstalled the OS and loaded perfectly fine. Thank you so much 🤙🤙

This definitely works sooo awesome thanks! Just remember if you deleted everything off you HD then you need to reinstall software and after it fails follow the steps.
Hi again. I’m trying to install Catalina on another desktop. It worked for the first one but doesn’t work for the second one. Any other suggestions?? Thanks
THANK YOU! This was the simplest fix. Got different errors (a missing package) on a few restarts, but kept changing the time and it eventually worked. Also did not need to correct the date later. I assume the OS updated it on its own.
Note that I was updating my OS from Yosemite to El Capitan.

My Imac was a 10.6.8 late 2009 and it worked just fine!! There was a beep sound and the whole process took about an hour but it was worth it. Now its like a brand new iMac 🥰🥰

The fix doesn't work anymore. Option+Command+R will force install of new OS.

It didn’t work for me so I called Apple support and they helped me out. You have to hold option +command + R while pressing the power button so this will allow you to install the latest MacOS version compatible with your Mac. Hope this helps 👍

Resurrecting this video to say THANK YOU AGAIN! I was having a terrible time erasing my old and slow Mac and it was failing to install software and this broke the stalemate. What an awesome fix and so efficient!! I did have to turn off wifi to push it through. Now to try to get the install past El Capitan… 😮

Doubted this like many before me, but this one ACTUALLY solved the issue! Make sure it's not plugged into the internet via ethernet after you've changed the date or it will change it automatically (as I found out several times...) Thank you for solving an issue I have been putting of for 2 days trying to resolve. 5* would highly recommend.

Thanks. This solution fixed my mid-2009 Macbook Pro for OS X El Capitan installation. Since the issue is on date, just make sure you switch off Wifi so your system is not pulling the date automatically.

Make sure wifi is disabled (and no ethernet cable) before re-boot
How to disable wifi?
@@ThomasGagne try networksetup -setnetworkserviceenabled Wi-FI Off from terminal (might be "airport off" instead of Wi-Fi off)

Make sure you have your wifi turned off on your computer because if it’s on it’s gonna connect and fixed the date again

Make sure you not connect to internet WiFi or Ethernet because it will set the date back to 2020

Don't forget to unplug the ethernet! I had mine plugged in and it kept resetting to the current date. I found another video instructing you to remove it to avoid this and it worked for me! Thank you!
