On a double decker bus you have to come down the stairs and be ready to get off while the bus is still moving because if you don't, you will miss your stop. He is talking about the old Routemaster bus which has an open platform at the rear.
You have to allow Billy some poetic licence in his stories. Ultimately he's a superb story teller.
One of my favourites relates to when he worked in the shipyards in Glasgow as a welder. He joined the territorial army (reserves) they went to Germany for 2 weeks training/exercises.
He describes in detail how two groups had to stage a battle.
One night his group caught someone from the 'enemy' group and in the interrogation they kicked the crap out of this poor guy.
Here's Billy's punchline.
"I knew this guy. He worked in the same shipyard as me. We spent 2 weeks chasing each other all over the Balck Forest. What a waste of time and money. I could have ambushed him at work and saved the army a fortune!"😂
I was working on the roof of an 80 year old lady's house. I heard a noise and turned around and she was standing behind me. She'd climbed the ladder to get there. She had not taken as much as a paracetamol in 30 years and she was a trained physical therapist. She insisted on adjusting my back and she was ridiculously strong for an old lady. Saying that we had a photo of my grandma grinning from ear to ear sitting on the back of a Harley Davidson at 93

I remember being an expat kid growing up in Hong Kong in the 90s with lots of double decker buses around. Being upstairs on one flying through the winding roads of the New Territories in HK with a driver who thought he was Michael Schumacher is the closest you can feel to being at sea in a dingy during a typhoon. 8 year old me loved it! The old ones always had the back door (if there was one?) open.
The first time i heard Billy do this joke, I nearly died....I had such a hard time breathing I almost passed out in a puddle of my own piss from laughing so hard....

At that time on the UK buses upstairs would be for smoking and downstairs for non smoking so the old lady was probably a smoker. The bus in Harry Potter is the type of bus he was talking about.
Literally as I was watching your reaction here, I was getting on a bus in Glasgow, and a guy getting off it "accused" the driver of slowing down then speeding up right before he stopped at the bus stop. It was a traffic light. They were stopping at a traffic light...
The very same thing happened to me when I was a kid. When the bus came to a halt the driver tried to blame me for jumping off. When I told my wife this story, many years later, I didn't think she was very going to stop laughing 😂😂😂

I bet you've never seen a stand up comedian that doesn't tell any jokes before.
That's why Billy is so good. He c an tell you the most boring tedious story and you'd still be laughing. lol
If you ever find yourself on a double decker bus in the UK, you'll see people queueing from the front door, snaking their way up the stairs to the top deck, in anticipation of the next stop. It's just the done thing, because the driver won't hang around at the stop waiting for you to come down. It might not have been true during the time Billy's story was set, but nowadays there are seats on the lower deck closest to the door reserved for older people and disabled people, so there's no old ladies bumbling down the stairs anymore.

I've just found a 4 minute clip called On the buses. Skid test have a look you'll get the idea what he's described the whole movie is hilarious 😂 and you will laugh your socks off

You going to come to like Billy more and more as you cover his stuff. As for what to watch next, I heartidly reccomend, Billy Connolly - Wildebeast, Billy Connolly - Potatoes of the Night. Billy Connolly - Don't drink the tap water in Ibiza ( I think Nick will really enjoy that one ), the very short ( if you ever do 2 short reactions together ) Billy Connolly - Two men on a golf course. Billy Connolly - Getting Caught Interfering With Yourself. Then of course and my favourite, Rangers V Celtic. There used to be a very good clip entitled sharks, blue ringed octopus, worst pain known to man. This appears to have been pulled and I can only finbd a shorter section named Worst Pain Known to Man. It is still well up there amongst his best stuff. Oh and don't miss Billy Connolly - Mood Bracelets.
You should watch the zombie movie starring Billy Connolly called "Fido".
Its a fantastic comedy set in a world with domesticated zombies.

I think you got this, but though he said ‘doorway’, on those old buses there is no door. It’s an open platform. You stood on the platform holding the pole and there was nothing between you and the outside world.

Why not try Russell Kane. I’ve seen all the top comedians live, and he is easily in the top 5 . On these “double deckers”, especially in Scotland with its really cold temperatures, travelling in them in winter was terrible, with heaters not much better than a flickering match. When you eventually got home, you had to open the fridge door to get a heat.
I'm not sure if this is true but a while back there was a glasgow newspaper story about a women thrown from a bus getting killed

It doesn’t spoil any fun for us. It’s just a talking point. It would be impossible to really predict. It doesn’t take any of the enjoyment away from the bit. At least not from us.

Nothing so funny as self inflicted injuries.
Censoring expletives distracts from comedy, and almost kills the energy of a joke for it is the seasoning of joke telling. Is there a reason the swearing has been silenced other than prudishness?

I wish they'd stop cutting the swearing out it's ridiculous it ruins the act completely because those expressions are needed to get the full effect of the story.
