Thank you so much for your video and all your doing, I work at one of the largest hospitals in Alaska and just like everyone else we’re short on supply and everyone is coming together to make sure we’re safe. I’ve been searching for a detailed video on polycarbonate face shields and your video was the most clear in detail and what to do. So again thank you!

Changes since publication - cut lengths for foam, elastic and silicone has changed slightly, created jigs for foam attachment step. This is all changing so quickly.

What type of oven do you use?

We use an electric convection home oven. There is an art to getting the poly at just the right temp to form it but not to hot so it becomes wavy. This took a lot of trial and error and we even found it was really different depending on the oven you used. We did used thick sheets of Aluminum that we would let warm up for an hour to set the poly on. The first few always sucked though. Also the aluminum had to be very clean or it would stick.

It's in the video but yeah, I probably should have put it in the graphic. It's cut to 8.5x11" sheets.

Do you have a rough circumference or any dimensions for the form the poly sits in after heating?

About 8" from edge to edge is what we shoot for. It will peel away from the form a bit, especially if the form is cold or if you try going higher on the heat.

    Any alternatives for polycarbonate?

I wish I knew. We started this 11 days ago and had barely ever worked with polycarbonate before. I know it goes by a few different trade names but we only experimented with this. Good luck.

Hello , are you selling these ? We are infusion nurses servicing Covid 19 patients in the community , we are almost cheek to cheek with the patient when we put in IVs or change their PICC lines . At the moment we don’t have anything to protect us out here . Can I buy some from you to use and gv to my fellow nurses ? Please I feel that no one cares for us out here .

These are all being donated with the materials being crowd funded. facebook.com/CharlestownFaceShieldProject/
We are prioritizing medical staff that are working directly with covid positive patients and mainly in the New England area (we can get to them quickly). I want to do so much more and I know the big companies are spooling up to offer a lot of stuff really soon. If you fall in to this range, send me an email at chad@dark-monk.com I will do what ever I can to help.
