Watch 'Unit of Difficult Patients: What Future for the Criminally Insane?' Here: • Unit of Difficult Pati...
From the streets of Minneapolis, the aboriginal lands of Australia, and the killing fields of Cambodia come the powerful stories of three people who dared to step out of the haunting, tragic darkness of the past, risking everything to reach the light of their own compassion.
RISKING LIGHT is a thought-provoking documentary that explores resilience and the painful process of moving from grief to compassion and forgiveness. Through the unforgettable stories of Mary Johnson, who grieves a murdered son; Debra Hocking, a victim of government-sanctioned genocide; and Kilong Ung, who survived the terror of the Khmer Rouge, RISKING LIGHT challenges us to examine our own beliefs about forgiveness and ask “What would the world look like if we could learn to forgive one another?”

Am still crying especially about the Australian and the mum who forgave the unforgivable..The world would be our paradise with such rare genes!!
Forgiving is possible, but some things will never be forgotten
Those things should never be forgotten. The trauma should be remembered, but the forgiving removes the pain and allows wounds to heal, not remain infected ...and possibly infect others ?
And I think it’s pretty safe to say, this would be one of those things that could never be forgotten!!!
such things like murder will never be forgiven!
It is said that the "final stage of healing is when you use what happened to you to help other people."
There is extraordinary power in forgiveness & only the strong are capable of forgiving❤❤❤
I cannot imagine how the gentleman from Cambodia survived what he went through.. physically, mentally. It doesn’t compute what the human brain can imagine. I just want to hug him and tell him how sorry I am he went through this. There are no words.. 💔💔💔
I have friends that were born during the genicide in Cambodia. Their parents all perished. Many of them that were old enough to remember the events, had very serious heart problems early on in their lives. Many have already passed at tender ages like 18, 22, and the most recent was just 36 😔 She had just married and was about to have her 1st child. We lost both of them. She’d be 50 this year. Her kiddo would’ve been a teen.
@@lucycarola1975-1979 war ended 1979. If they died at the age of 18-22 that would of been in the mid and early 1998. They died from gang banging( gun shots) if they lived in USA. There were many Cambodians kids at that time in a gangs. Heart problems, depression etc effected majority of the older Cambodians and they didn't die they just live with it. What you're stating doesn't make any sense. I'm Cambodian I was born 1975 i don't remember what me and my family went through. I've never heard kids died the cuased was from Genocide lol they wouldn't remember. You need to get your story straight.
This was the norm in the Americas. How do you think the US was built?
Watching the mom be able to forgive & embrace the man who killed her son as her own shows what forgiveness can do. Great job this was amazing!!
That mother forgiving her sons killer is truly remarkable and this is pure love . God bless this woman my goodness
The guy from Cambodia did something I don’t know if I could. Peace, love and blessings to all the victims in this video. My heart swells for all of you.
I have not cried like this over a documentary ever. This truly touched my heart
I havent seen such a beautiful documentary like that in a long time, thank you! ❤
These individuals are truly amazing.
Witnessing global humanity on screen here
❤
The gentleman from Cambodia story is similar to mine. I was a lot younger than him, so my memory i remembering was vividly . During khmerouge, I was separated from my sister and my siblings. I would cry all the time missing my parents and siblings. I remember vividly my older brother came to my camp run away to see my parents. I remember I had to walk into a warmp where water went up to my neck. We didn't make it to see my parents. We got caught by them and put in the detention where they don't give us any food. I remember a lot. Seeing a dead person burn on a motorcycle . Dang, I could write a story.
Sensational program. Forgiveness is such a powerful tool. It’s a great shame that it’s so hard to bestow or receive.
Wishing you a kind 2024..…. can't wait for more content from the producers that side
I'm so grateful that this video showed up in my feed this morning!! I really needed to watch and take in all of it!!!!
Thank you for sharing and teaching from your deepest pain.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for such an inspiring documentary. 💜
Forgive, do not forget the lesson.
forgive but never forget. like the old saying goes: the best revenge is living well
It's not about revenge. It's about healing.
The world would be a beautiful place if we forgive one another. If I make a mistake tell me. Don't be angry for 14 years, and then tell me about it. 💝
Wow ! You all are loving people.
Your compassion is great. God is working in all of you . You are amazing. 🙏🤗💝💞 God bless everyone. 🤗💝
Mary Johnson your story is so poignant.
I have no doubt none of the good things you have in your life would have come had you not started to forgive .
Of course this goes for all the others featured ....but a mothers love for her child ...this selfless love is something on another level and it takes something truly powerful for that to continue and flourish under those terrible circumstances.
What an amazing documentary
What a beautiful way to overcome tragedy, it not easy but is not impossible , thank you Jesus Christ to give the strength to this people ❤🎉❤❤
They would have won if they have made me part of them .Choose to forgive or be a murderer. Wow wow wow ! All of these stories are incredible.

Lovely! I believe forgiveness is possible AFTER healing. Some can do it in a different order.
God is good. I'm glad you guys find a place in your heart to forgive. It is really beautiful . May God give you all comfort and happiness through out your life.
Where was god when the things that happened to these happened huh? Oh yeah nowhere
@Esme3281 open your heart and think positive , and you will see. We humans are so blind to see his miracle. If we close our hearts and eyes, how do you expect to see him. We need to remind ourselves that we are sinners. We don't deserve his mercy.
My friend worked as a nurse on the Thailand border, they had thousands of cambodians coming into the camps every day from across the border, i salute all the medical staff etc.. from across the world who were there. My friend is irish and she was paid 75 dollars a month....
Wow... powerful documentary.

If you take away someone I love for no reason there is no way I’m gonna totally forgive you ,No way .
Thank you for posting this. I eas able to forgive forgive Russell somehow and no one could understand how i could forgive a mam that almost killed me and his baby i was pregnant with. And I wish i had told him. He died last August.
@DonnellOkafor-ig3ov what a harsh and wicked response - was such bile so necessary? You think people just choose to fall in love with and birth children for monsters, for the fun of it? Really?
You made the right decision to free yourself of unforgiveness. You needed to be released of that burden...whether or not he knew that you forgave him, doesn't really matter, especially if he wasn't repentant or remorseful. I hope you've moved on happily with your life
@DonnellOkafor-ig3ov you're a bit simple aren't you? Do you think people walk around with a sign on their heads with arrow saying "monstrous man here"? People can reveal their true selves slowly...human beings are incredibly complex. Are you a teenager?
This documentary made me realize that yes we can forgive even to those that have hurt us so much 😢God bless this woman for forgiving her sons killer and the other two people that went through painful situations 😢
What heart wrenching stories ❤
POWERFUL!
Damn, powerful documentary
Mary Johnson is the salf of the earth.
I grew up next to a large Cambodian family, and frankly I'm still somewhat horrified no one ever bothered to teach us their history in school. I had no idea what that awesome man and his wife and oldest daughter had been through, and I just wish at some point in my life I'd known enough to embrace him with that understanding before he passed away. I remember when I first cooked jasmine rice for myself, the scent punched me in the face and I blossomed with the understanding that's what their house always smelled like. When I learned the recent history of Cambodia in my 20s, it was a much more awful punch to the gut.
Teared up at the end
I still get stuck with forgiveness ☣seems to be shallow. I often imagine someone who was cruel/diabolically so, for me looking at them with pity helps.☯
11:11 that's why
Learned this in AA.12 steps
💔💔💔
Wow
I have two brothers and one sister am never going to forgive them am going to die with the hate for them
Don't hate them. Accept them for what they are and keep them away from you and yours. Don't let them live rent free in your heart and mind.
@@kumarj4693 I can never forgive them
I know this is about forgiveness but I couldn’t help seeing that big a$$ spider. No thank you!
😂
Story #1- you mean to tell me that a boy got killed by someone he didn’t even know? This mother is way better person than me.
I wonder if it’s truly forgiveness or are they just fooling themselves?
Be kind to yourself. It took her 12 years to get to that point. We are all on a path to being better people. Some just take longer to get there due to pre-existing beliefs, environment, unforeseen hurdles, but if we are lucky we can get, at least, close before we die.
Peace is the byproduct of forgiveness. Once you've hurt long enough, bad enough. You'll finally want to heal. Forgiveness is the first step in that process.
It comes down to facing what happened or living in hatred your whole life . Be thankful you never have to find out which person you truly are
that little roo in tasmania looked well crook
bet they just filmed it then went off
HELP YOUR LOCAL WILDLIFE !!!
No 😮
You're going to need a second video for the tarantula. Will it be able to forgive that family for destroying its home?
It's not that the judge didn't want to give life, you cannot give life without parole to a minor. That's the law. See Rob M. Miller V. Alabama,
I’m proud of u Khmer brother
❤ ❤ ❤
Our sermon in church today was about forgiveness. and I was thinking about people in jail that had come to Christ and are saved, and it really made me think of Jesus saying father forgive them they don't know what they are doing This was a great doc .
No
My DNA won’t allow me to forgive the Khmer Rouge one person maybe
The Tasmanian woman is I think not being 100% regarding her ethnicity ..Does it really matter what race you claim? Be a good human period and move on.
Forgiveness without the Foundation of Jesus Christ, leaves you looking at your strength, but human strength is Fallen. It will be incredibly easy to fall back into that pain without Jesus Christ. Forgiveness Through Jesus Christ, has you looking at His Strength, not your weakness. ... Forgiveness Matters, but the Route and Foundation of Forgiveness Is Everything. ..... .. God Bless You All In Truth and Repentance. - In Christ, Christina
I do not understand the woman’s story about being inappropriately separated from her parents and placed into foster care. There is discussion about what the Australian government did to Aboriginal families - taking these children away. She is clearly not Aboriginal.
She clearly is.
She may be of mixed race, those children were definitely targeted by the government for removing them from their families and placing in “schools.” There’s a movie about the removal of Aboriginal children from their families “The Rabbit Fence.” The mother forgiving her son’s killer was so sad and touching, strong woman. Last gentleman was so young for such traumatic experiences, he lost his childhood and family.
@@rapitup45Is not. 🙄
Why IS gaving guns still allowed in the us?
Why did God give us free will?
Killing IS Not a question of free will ,IT IS a crime
@@LaurieG.-fn2crIt is a person's free will as to whether the person will be a good person or a bad person; every person decides that for him or herself, since nobody else can make that decision.
@@tandiparent1906 Well here in Europe having guns is not allowed, because Not everyone is unfortunately a good Person ,why to Put a gun in his hand to proove it?
cos the evil are always in charge
And again, they wish to abolish terms such as mother & father🥴Keep a close eye on the rhetoric!
Who? No one is trying to do that
@@taylorbug9 Where have you been? I’m in Australia and when you give birth, the paperwork asks for the name of the “Birthing Parent” not Mother or Father. So there is that🤷♀️
@@megansummersides4255 Oh yeah..there is plenty of that, for those with eyes to see & ears to listen
Australia aint perfect , nowhere is, but comparing it to living under Pol Pot in any way is ridiculous.
The chaos and devastation in Indo China/Vietnam Cambodia and Laos in the late 20century was something truly horrific but in amongst that what the Kymer Rouge did was another level of evil completely.
whoever wrote the poem is 'a nasty person' discrimination , and favoring of mothers, deliberately leaving out fathers, who also ''suffer '' and no recognition is given to fathers in the same as for mothers, this is because society ''control' people such as this this, control how they want you think'' dictating to society.
This story is about these mothers coming together, which is something that the fathers are capable of also doing.
Also, I guess you missed the fact that they also started a 2father's group for the same reason that the 2mothers group was started.
Don't forgive. Don't forget. That's for God.
People are pretty hopeless. I cant always trust myself to do the right thing all the time so how can I expect it of anyone else .
Me , I trust God, and try to love people.
One Love ☆
Amazing stories of forgiveness. Praise God.
