Loving your videos and the laid back but serious content you provide. Your comment on the suspension is spot on for riders of 80kg or less who don't want/need a hard enduro. You actually inspired me to buy one of these and although I've only just put 500km on her I'm really loving all the virtues you mention i.e you buy this machine for what it is 1) weight 2) economical 3) go anywhere - even with luggage 4) Proven Honda reliability. Great work mate! All the best//Marc
Cheers Marc! And enjoy the new Rally 😎👍 May it take you to some amazing places. Regards, Phil
Looks like a great setup. I love your focus on the outcome the bike gives you, that's true performance.
Cheers mate. Yeah, so long as I can get to, and do, what I want to, the bike is secondary.
Cheap eBay gear can work just as well as the expensive stuff who needs a brand name 😂👍 thanks Phil
Too true, Johnny 👍
I’m about the same as you when it comes to the crf300
If you ever up Warwick way for an overnighter you’re welcome.
Ah thanks Marcell! Appreciate the offer mate 😎👍
Was hoping my Rally was going to be here this weekend but hey ho. Good shout of your mods and the best of it it hasn’t cost you a small fortune 👍🏻
Cheers mate 👍 Been fun putting the mods on- and not spending a fortune to do it. Fun little machines 😎
What a weapon of a bike mate!
It's a fun little machine Ausmoto 😁👍
You've done a great build there mate.
Thanks mate 😎👍
G'day. Enjoying your vids and just came across this one. Just wondering what tools etc you carry with you? Have you got spare tubes and tools to change a flat? What's your plan if you're solo camping and get puncture in the middle of nowhere?
Hey mate, I did a video, think it's called "Shed Ramblings- Tools of the Trade" and it list the stuff I take 👍 Yep, take all the tools needed to swap out tunes ect 👍
@@MidCoastAdventures Cool thanks. I'll take a look
Hey Phill. Well setup bike.. like that Rhino bag. Bring on the 450RL later this year. Is that the Hat in the background? looks like a good spot for fish. where is it?
Cheers John 👍 Nah, it's Trail Bay / Gap Beach in the background. The Hat is about 20 kays further south. Ah yeah the CRF 450L. I'd happily buy one- if they have increased the oil capacity. Those 1000 kay service intervals would drive me insane...lol
Hi Phil. Nice looking bike. What bend handlebar did you go for?
Henry reed 👍
Hi,
I am nearly 63 YO and haven't ridden a bike in 25 + years. My last bike was a Harley Davidson 1340 , got stolen, I stopped riding.
Got my first bike license in 76 and the full license in 79, drove essentially dual sports back then with the occasional big bro Kawasaki Z1000, Honda 900 Bol d'Or... etc. I am thinking of getting back into it, I am still relatively fit. I am interested in going around the place and taking pictures, exploring is probably the word, how I get there, doesn't matter, I am passed the time of performance thrills... had a few accidents in the past... anyway. Do you reckon that bike would be suitable for me... I am worried about the suspension, I am 102 kg, 1.83cm. I was looking at the Yamaha 700 Tenere, I am not sure about the top heavy feel and the weight. I want something I keep in the garage, does not cost a bundle in insurance and I can get out of the city for a few hours ride...
G'day mate. the Rally is definitely a great for cruising around exploring, taking pics and generally just enjoying the outdoors. Although your size may be too big for one. They're really made for 70 odd kilo people (i'm 80 kg and that seems pretty good) but the suspension and ergonomics at your height might let you down. Ideally try to test ride one. You may think it's fine, comfortable, and all you need to get back out and on a bike again 👍
Ok thank you for your reply, that what I thought I am a not "thin enough" for that bike realistically. The highway speed is a little bit of a problem as well when some of those trucks are tailing you at 110 Km/h... I will look for something with a little bit more grunt to "get out of the way"
Good vid. What do you prefer this or the G310GS? Which one for 50/50 riding? How much better is this offroad?
The little GS was sooooo comfortable- and capable. Such an underrated bike! The Rally has some great points, and some not so amazing. So, for 50/50, with a bias for sheer comfort, I'd have to say the GS. For exploring where you're not sure what you have got yourself into, the Rally 👍
Great video, how much was the exhaust?
Cheers Steve. Cost me around $480 landed. The link is in the Description Box 👍
Hi Phil
Just bought this bike …do you have any viewpoint in relation to the always illuminated front indicators😮
Never owned a bike with this mmm feature .
Already had someone on a roundabout almost pull out at Coffs Harbour .
They're on permanently as a form of safety. Just more for other road users to see. But....holiday time no-one sees anyone 😫 It's safer than having no lights one, just people are idiots during holiday season 🤦♂️ Enjoy the bike, and try to avoid the crowds. Cheers mate 👍
Hey mate how do you find the oneil helmet? Especiallybwith the new louder exhaust. Im chasingbmy first helmet. And this one is alittle more budget friendly. I just bought a crfRally with 5000ks on it but all the mods done.
It's fine with the pipe. The loudest noise is simply wind. I wear ear plugs when doing longer, open road stints. Fine under 60 or so kays 👍
@@MidCoastAdventures yeah thinking I'm gonna go with the Airoh Commander. It feels really nice also. And I think better quality.
Love your work mate, which is the most fun to ride, the old dr650 or the honda 300 rally?
Ah good question! Both are "fun" but the DR grunt - and sound- was sweet. The Rally, being noticeably lighter, inspires more confidence about where you take it.
Hi
Just querying whether , when you took the fairing plastic off around the engine , do you now feel heat around your leg or legs ?
Owning a Versys 650 23 model , the heat on right leg up to the lower torso , is very uncomfortable when idling .
Looking perhaps to buy this bike .
I ended up cutting the plastics, 1) Looks a bit better to me. 2) runs a little cooler. Don't notice any heat issues on my legs 👍 Good little bikes, nice and light feeling, bit more power would be good. But they have enough for fun exploring 👍
Cheers thanks , do you think if you are standing up over rough terrain it negates the effect on suspension of a heavier rider 95kg ?
Logically it should be so …but perhaps not ?
Do you have a bad vibration at 7500rpms, is that normal?
Yep. Unfortunately seems pretty normal over 7000 rpm. Guess it's just a small motor working hard.
@@MidCoastAdventures I only reach it when passing on the road, gear down, it not the normal vibration it sounds different, same with you, I see videos of people running 80, with noise I would be scare the motor would come unbolted
Great video. Love your BS free review and value your opinion. Definitely worth a subscription from me ❤️🤍💙
Welcome aboard mate 😎👍 No point making up BS, it is what it is.
