  • What sort of scope (or sights) will help you shoot most effectively when hunting big timber or brush country?
This episode explores the characteristics of an optic that's ideal for fast, effective shooting inside 200 yards, and details several different scope, red dot, and iron sight models that work particularly well.
    ENJOY!

I have been using a 55 year old Leopold 3X9 on my 1972 M70 Winchester 30.06 for 52 years with a solid 1 piece mount. It has held zero for all these years and I have hunted the rough Ozark hills which is hard on a rifle and the hunter. Neither the rifle or scope has ever failed me. Great info. I’m going place a low powered scope on my new Henry 45-70 because my old eyes have a hard time now looking down the barrel with iron sights. Thanks!!! Bud Cary

Here in Europe we do a lot of close range hunting on wild boar. On driven hunts the usual distance is from 5 to 50 meters, speed matters because the animals come fast and disappear into the brush equally fast😅. Nothing beats a low mounted red dot without magnification when speed matters. A good optic like my Svarovski 1-6x24 is the more versatile option if you want to reach a bit further out. I use it on my 9,3x62 straight pull rifle from Steel Action with a quick mount. If we are talking real dangerous game in really close range I would always choose the red dot only as I do on my .458 WinMag.

Fantastic content. I am glad to be able to now watch it on CZcams as well as being able to listen to your traditional audio content. Keep up the good work. Best wishes in your CZcams venture.

Those 2.5x fixed leupolds are awesome. I have 3.
Also the old K2.5 and k3x
Currently running the 2.5x8x36 on a 35 whelen. Seems to be a perfect size, allows 300 yard shots but also 50 yard shots

What about LPVOs, and how to mount them? There are some pretty cheap ones out there that have good reputations in that market. Not SEAL Team Six good, with an unlimited budget good, but more than good enough. Bill Wilson has pointed out that these scopes make Scout Scopes obsolete. I assume he has the budget for any level of quality.
