  • This is my look back at Honda's all-new CR250R for 1992. This was a complete redesign and one of the most successful of Honda's two-stroke CR generations.

Man, I really dig the looks of these early 90's bikes. The tech evolution through this era has always been super intriguing to me.

I loved the nuclear red and still do! I still have a 94 cr250. The 89 was the prettiest to me followed by the nuclear red years! Great bikes!

I had a 91 KX250 with boyesen ports added back in and had a ride on a friends 92 CR250, few days later I owned one. I was so much faster and moved from top of intermediate class to top half expert. Forks had tiny ports in the pistons so I enlarged them as big as I could, pretty good after that. Wish I still had it. Swingarm cracked on the weld near the front of the chain side like most did, had it welded and had no more problems.

This was my first 250 after 125's and I loved it apart from the soft fork, I mainly rode sand and the motor was pretty stonking after 125's, turned amazing, really light feeling, engine power was a bit trickier to modulate on hard packed clay and It had a couple of issues (super easy to dent pipe and swingarm weld crack) which was unusual for Honda but one of my fondest dirt bike ownerships overall

When these came out a local dealership had a test ride day. It was set up at an arena cross. I got to do a lap on one of these and almost crashed. It sure was different than my 88 YZ.

To start the '92 season me and my buddy went for district 17 points in the +30 class (there was no A or B then). I got a brand new KX250, he got a new honda. My other buddy had a '90 KX250 and it was a rocket so I thought the '92 would be as fast or faster,,, uh uh.. they neutered it. He absolutely shelled me with roost. The only time the kaw had a chance was on hard pack baked adobe tracks.

Hey that's my girl!!! Only.mine is 94 and I did my own rendition graphics as an amalgam of multiple years influences and is an absolute beast and faster than my.2010 yz250 ....that endless powerband and long gear ratios combine for endless arm pulling fun but just tonight I was riding some deep sand in 5th gear tapped and started braking a bit late and.holy shit talk about some.brutal head shake...but it's not the head shake that I thought as far as a back and forth motion but it was the bars oscillating left to right...left to right...left to right like someone's sawing at the bars......so I suppose that's the type of head shake you are always talking bout tony....or maybe they did both types of shaking!!!!!...lol

Love your videos Tony but what's going on. History of cr250, 96 cr250 which is basically the same as the 92 that you're covering in this video. I'm a huge fan of the 92-96 cr250 and have owned a couple of them but let's see some fresh content.

But w my being 6- ft 3 ....260 lbs doesn't make for the fastest lap times but it's funny how harsh suspension felt by light guys ends up being plush and supple for us bigger guys and also more weight means more stable at high speeds...but the lack of that bottom end pull really can get frustrating as your clutch can only bypass the lower revs so many times in succussion until fade and notchyness becomes an issue that a bike with more torque wouldn't have to slip it as much.....my 89 cr250 has alot.more torque off idle ...awesome midrange ....awesome top end...just not as long and hard as the newer crv mill .....so m currently at 13:50 gear ratio and still a bit soft down low so I'm going to try and lose some weight and go to a 12 t front sproket and 50 rear which is basically same as 13:52 ....which is hopefully goin to help that bottom end some and I actually have the fattest Widest fmf FATBOY PIPE IVE EVER SEEN ON A MX BIKE....NOT THE FATTY...ITS THE "FATBOY AND I THINK ITS AN OLDERMPIPE THTS BEEN DISCONTINUED CUZ I can never find them but this thing is as wide as my thigh!!! And I thought bigger more volume chamber header pipes like the gnarly are supposed to boost bottom end power...but still not the best it's probably just my fat ass being to heavy for optimum performance and I can only.imagine how worse it would get with like a skinnier pipe made for top end power.....

    • @jessejarzabski5076
      @jessejarzabski5076 Před 3 lety

Exactly!!!!!!! the modern high uality oils are awesome at depositing only wet...type thin resiniss coating that actually aids in the valves performance that lowers friction and........apart from the wet premix material all over valves..the actual CARBONISH BAKED ON DRY SOOT NEVER starts to accumulate and get fused to the innerds and onlt that clern well lubed power valve unit on my 89 actuates flawless and very low buildup of it to begin with...........
I ACHIEVE THESE RESULTS THRU ALTERNATING BACK AND FORTH FROM AN ESTER BASED HIGHLY DETERGENT ADDITIVE AMALGAM OF FINEST BASE STOCKS AND USE KLOTZ R-50 OR BENOL INBETWEEN...SO YOU GET THAT SUPERIOR LUBE OF THE CASTOR AND AFTER THAT TANK RUNS OUT... I INTRODUCE A TANK OF ESTER FULL SYNTHETIC SUCH AS REDLINE OR amsoil dominator (both wonderful oils) to help clean AND REMOVE ANY BUILDUP OF MATERIAL THAT THE INHERENTLY MORE GUMMYNESS OF THE CASTORS SIDE AFFECT IS NULLIFIED UPON THE REDLINE TANK OF FUEL THAT DISSOLVES AND RIDS THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF CASTOR AND BLOWS OUT THE EXHAUST AND AFTER THAT TANK...BEING EXTREMELY CLEAN,,,THEN GO BACK TO TANK OF CASTOR.......TO RESUME ITS SUPEREIOR FILM STRENGTH AND IF I ONLY USED THE CASTOR...ITS LIKELY ALL WILL BE FINE BUT THERE DEF WILL BE ALOT CLEANER MOTOR WHEN TORE DOWN COMPARED TO AN ONLY CASTOR OIL TANK OF GAS..ITS THE ACCUMULATIVE EFFECTS OF THE CASTOR IN WHICH IN IniTIATES THE GUMMY SNOWBALL EFFECT PROCESS BECAUSE ONCE IT STARTS TO LAY ITS FOUNDATION OF LAQUERY GALZY BUILDUP OF SOOT AND CARBON the exponential accumulation of that bad stuff will dictate motors performance or lack thereof by being unable to get clean again since the buildup of the burnt premix castor had reached the point of no return and at that point its time to tear off the jug for inspection and de carbonzing deglazing all the baked on material the castor oil imposed on the crown of piston and cylinder...
...but about 6 months ago... i pulled jug and inspected tolerances which were good and i thoroughly cleaned and degreased each powervalve internals under the hpp valve cover so i just layed down new base and head gaskets as well as exhaust and intake gaskets and powervalves gaskets as well.. and now 6 months later and 45 hours in , actuates just as good as when i tore it down....w just enough premix to lightly coat the internals....so finally u engage the system to add the tension to the train mechanisms after engaging the spring loaded detent under a round cover on right side lower case by water pump.....and first ride proved just as powerful as ever w good low torque awesome midrange hit that fades into a nice top end hook thats sure to make your eyes water!!!!....lol....
So moral of my story is i think that the 2 stroke premix oil quality has been so refined and efficienttley resarched and made into a extremley potent stew of the best lubricity....coupled with best base stock to radically clean and maintain carbon free baked on mmaterial.....SIMPLY PUT ....ITS THE ABSOLUTE BEST RECEIPE FOR MAINTRAINING A STABLE RELIABLE MOTOR THAT CAN WITHSTAND THE VIGORS AND ABUSE OF THE MODERN MOTOCROSS SUPERCROSS ETHOS, AND ENABLING SUB PAR MEDIOCRE DESIGNS FROM BACK IN THE DAY....TO BECOME THAT MUCH MORE RELIABLE DUE TO THE CONSTANT REFINMENT OF THE 2 STROKE OIL....DEMAMNDING NATURAL...SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT IS A COLLECTIVE MOTIVATION AND PRIORITY TO SUBDUE TREE LOVERS AND ENVIRONMENTALISTS resolve to go against the grain ... making big oil as accountable ans responsible to appease public so reg 2 stroke oil is bad for environment but developments of natural castor based oils like that of 927 layed the foundation seeing as they are biodegradable and not harmful to environment or individual since its made from a bean... a plant, a natural solution...........................not to mention arguable the best castor oil ever produced due to its newley refined cleanliness.... superior film strength and earth friendly exhaust hydrocarbons...its the choice for racer and environmentalist alike!!!!.........BUT....that say how good it smells but honestly it doesnt do anything for me smell wise.....since once u smell klotz benol raw and in exhaust...u will realize its reminiscient of race fuel and peops tht usually complain of 2 stroke smell.....sensus found out that not one rider that trailed behind a klotz benol premixed dirt bike complaned of nasty odors....on the contrary many actually liked the smell and inquired to many peops many times (what type of race fuel are you burning????........then w a honest smile i can either psych him out and make him believe im running Cam 2 or vp or,................let pride go and tell him no race gas...........just klotz benol mmixed w pump gas 93 octane with extra 5 points octane booster introduced to make detonation nothing but an ole memory and my 98 octane mix is perfect for all my bikes that never knock ping or detonate .....its maximas "hi test" octane booster that smellls awesome and is a beautiful blue color that helps identify it in your gas........
so with the modern oils with modern fuel and additives make for a powervalve system that needs next to no maintenance and realistically only needs servicing in my opinion once a year or after 40 hours or 50 but that IS WITH ONLY USING THE BEST OILS POSSIBLE TO DATE..........just mainly to check bolts are torqued and adjusted more so than it needed to be cleaned ....
....so man..there must of been some really dirty smoky oil back then that just decimated the power valve internals w the quickness W CARBON THAT STUCK AND BUILT UP LIKE SNOW ON A MOLUNTAIN TOP....LOL
SOmy best oils for high rpm racing type riding style that i only spend 20 or 25 mins riding that day and then i edit and record the footage and put bike away so my bikes never are subjected to the high heat wear and tear that comes with sustained max rpm output while at full operating temp....most damage actually comes from start up and excessive engine braking instead of pulling in clutch....lean jetting with lean premix ratio doesnt always mean hotter temps...but anything above 215 degress farenheit on a 2 stroke is pushing the limits of the metalurgies capacity not to allow rapid expansion of piston with possible ring sticking or welding to the bore.....so neways sorry about the sidetracking down the rabbit hole of my inner thought so heres the best oils i have used
      1) Klotz R-50 castor plus synthetic ester (80% ester , 20 % castor)
      2)REDLINE synthetic ester
      3)Maxima K2 full synth ester
      3)klotz Benol castor degummed
      4) aMSOIL Dominator synth
      5) Maxima castor 927
      6)silkolene 2t by fuchs
      7) motul techno synthese.....
EVERY ONE OF THESE OILS ARE EXCELLENT AND PROVIDE EXCEPTIONALL PROTECTION AND POWER AND ARE THE CLEANEST AS FSAR AS DEPOSITTING IN SILENCER TIP....DRUELLING PREMIX OUT EXHAUST MANIFOLD And others are absolutely nullified here with next to no dicernable depositing anywhwere on the bike....
mainly i choose these top 7 as far as what brand smeels the best to my nose and to a lesser extent and more importantly the absolute spotless and deposit free areas that usually build up are to the naked eye...utterly invisible and most of these provides a nice cusion around rings for better sealing and compression readings as well as for smoother power delivery reminscient of a new bike feeling very tight with very little vibration with very clean hi revvs that are just a joy to feel when riding a 2 stroke land missle!!!! lol........

You are correct that particular photos is of a CR125R motor but the basic layout of the HPP and its function is the same on the 250 and 125. I have also owned several of the HPP Hondas. I was using the photo as an example of the function of the HPP system which is very similar.

You should do a cynical episode reminiscent of being as entertaining as watching the old american idol goofballs and their comically dreadful vanity believing they are actually a good singer....that was the best part of the show and people started to change the channel after that....we love intrigue...scandal..controversy and I think if you did a video of. THE TOP 10 OR TOP 5 Worst motorcycles ever made.....maybe do diff types like...top 5 worst 125s ever...top 5 worst 250s...top 5 worst 70s bikes.....enduros......worst atvs quads.....or just 1 accumulative survey of all types of machines that just stunk and whether totally ugly or totally a school bus with 4 flat tires....there's plenty of evil machines...(tm400) with a.mind all their own.. unpredictable and apocyolyptic!! Well at least for the individual...lol.....oh there's another topic.....top 5 ugliest mx.bikes....(any early to mid 80s rm) lol
