  • In today's video, you will practice all kinds of Adjectives. Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or states of being of nouns. They can also act as a complement to linking verbs or the verb to be.
Depending on the language, an adjective can precede a corresponding noun on a prepositive basis or it can follow a corresponding noun on a postpositive basis. Structural, contextual, and style considerations can impinge on the pre-or post-position of an adjective in a given instance of its occurrence.
Some adjectives describe qualities that can exist in different amounts or degrees. To do this, the adjective will either change in form (usually by adding -er or -est) or will be used with words like more, most, very, slightly, etc.: "the older girls," "the longest day of the year," "a very strong feeling," "more expensive than that one." Other adjectives describe qualities that do not vary-"nuclear energy," "a medical doctor"-and do not change form.
Adjectives come in three forms: absolute, comparative, and superlative.
For centuries, the term "adjective" has been used for a word type now called a determiner. For example, the words "his," "this," "many" are classified as possessive adjectives, demonstrative adjectives, and indefinite adjectives respectively. In contemporary grammar, however, these are classified as determiners, specifically possessive determiner, demonstrative determiner, and indefinite determiner.
