- After a serious accident in the trailer there was no way this big mare would load! She had worked out how to avoid the lorry or trailer and if pushed would either rear, bolt off or violently escape to the right. Hours of trying time and time again has only made her fear of loading worse.

She is an absolute beauty!! Thank you Steve, for being there for her! ❤️🇨🇦
Yes, an intelligent beauty ❤
What a beautiful Black Beauty...... This was one of those times that the horse was one step ahead. She knew exactly what you were going to do...
I cried when she loaded in the small trailer.❤
@@darksarcasm4835 I was close to tears as well.
Steve is one of the best horseman I've ever come across. He knows how to read horses. It's a gift. Not something that you have. I absolutely love to watch Steve.
I only watched Steve’s channel for my “horse fix” but have recently discovered The Clever Cowgirl in Montana. Somewhat different attitude and circumstances, but great horse empathy.
@@EnglishJoanInOregon The Clever Cowgirl is excellent. She absolutely loves her horses and is very knowledgeable. It's a joy to watch her.
Yep yep❤
10:15 Was that a 'growl' I heard? You were in the dog house!
Agree!!!❤
Mara is a tough nut to crack! She is going to feel so free from that fear, thanks to your persistence and skill. Absolutely wonderful! The love that horse has for her owner is also remarkable!
She probably thought Steve was going to crack her head with ceiling parts, when you consider all that, her behavior is not surprising. I think Steve got a bit lucky with that kick, i don't think she was truly aiming for him, she was just trying to scare him luckily. But you can't be sure before hand, only the horse knows exactly what it is planning. I am also quite sure she remembers Steve stuffed her onto the trailer last time and that's why she was saying no, some horses are very good at remembering patterns and noticing clues. Normally you only have to train them on something once and they overcome it so this kind of thing doesn't happen.
Wow Steve this was nail biting at times and I found myself holding my breath but as always you triumphed with having grace, purpose and patients and a bit of thinking outside the box. This is why I love learning from you !🤠😀
My nails are down to the nub.
SUGGESTION: Get some pipe insulation (the kind that looks like a pool noodle) and put on the edge of the trailer above the ramp. No need to glue it because the tension of the slit will keep it there. It will compress when you close up the trailer. I did this for my black mare who had hit her head a few times. Now, she can see where the edge is and avoid it. Also it pads the edge. I saw a video of someone using a head bumper-the bumper flipped forward and became a blindfold. 😢
Good job getting this lovely horse to load.
I really didn’t think she was going to change but I’m pleased Steve was able to help this mare. What a beauty she is
Mara is one of the smartest mares you’ve featured, she really was ahead of the game. Well done everyone that wasn’t easy
I love that you showed the horse’s reaction to you and that you used the owner to help you because of it. Nice to see you don’t have an ego that gets in your way,and it makes you a better trainer for it! What a good job, she was pretty set in her opinions.
❤❤❤!
What a gorgeous looking horse and what awful, cruel bad luck she’s had. Not only the ramp braking but also that traumatic head injury. Thank goodness for Steve, yet again, for coming to the rescue. I believe that Mara deserves a bravery award 🥇 also for letting Steve help her. 🙏🙏🐴 that she and her owner have a wonderful life after all this pain. ❤❤❤❤
That horse loves and really respects her momma....I can tell that she feels safe with her mom....that is a good thing.
This video and this horse are proof of how intelligent horses can be and if we underestimate them we can have BIG problems. Yes, it's a dangerous job, but some of us crazy people do it for fun.
Poor baby...such a tramatic experience for her. Even humans don't want to go back to scene of bad experiences. Good job Steve in helping her.
WOW! Steve! This is so wonderful! Your persistence and understanding helped this horse overcome the tragic accident the she experienced! Great training, great and happy horse!
What an incredibly intelligent horse. Like intelligent children who are fearful they try to control their environment. But Steve keeps up his firm but loving reassurance. Showing his awareness of her fear but not enabling it. This must have been exhausting.
Give a huge thanks to Steve for being able to help this beautiful horse and give Mara a head protector to keep her safe if she gets overexcited again.
Amazing at Mara’s reaction to remembering you. Animals are so much more intelligent then they are given credit. Love your videos, thank you
Simply amazing. Sometimes we humans can be outmatched by our sensitive, smart creatures. Steve shows his understanding & patience here in a could-be dangerous situation. He meets Mara's mind where it is & literally leads her out of her fear.
Jeez that was one hell of a session. That’s one smart mare.
This is where Steve shows what real horsemanship can do. A gift.. maybe… years of experience and observation ? Yes. 100%.
You deserve a medal!!! I can't believe how patient yet firm and kind you were. Enjoy your time in the US. PS Whew, I hope you have a good massage therapist... 😅
I don’t think any other horseman could gotten that poor girl over her deep fear. Wow Steve you must have been exhausted!! 🥱
That one was particularly frightening!😲 Sooo many times so close to injury! So thankful for Tanya & all to press for a little rethink for safety reasons! I agree, she did seem uncomfortable having to tuck her hind quarters up under to fit, esp in the second one. I see that so often with slant load trailers (😉 Sooo wish I could join you in NC, USA!) A decent sized horse gets face up against one side wall, tail against the other & divider getting forced into place where hind end doesn't actually fit comfortably either! ... I've heard folks talk about how hind end is "supported" during the trip, but without chest support, face gets mushed into the wall with stops or right turns. High respect for everyone acknowledging this beautiful mare's intelligence & respecting her strong expressions of her thoughts & feelings. So helpful that she never mistakingly made any connection of the trauma to be associated with Michelle! Well done all!! Stay safe!
Steve yr miracle worker. Thank god you have the gift to help your horses find peace and trust. Bless you
The change in her attitiude was awesome. Absolutly worth every minute spent to help her see a different world.
What a lovely horse. She was so afraid and could have really hurt you at anytime but despite that overarching fear she restained herself from doing so. This video is a tribute yo your calm and consitant approach to emotional upset horses.
My favorite part of every video is when the horse displays relief and pure thankfulness. This horse in particular. Her fear was so palpable! This is why I come here! ❤. You sure know your stuff! 🎉
WOW STEVE. I have watched all of your video's and this one was the most difficult horse because she is so smart perhaps. BUT, at the final time she stood there and looked really proud of herself. I am VERY impressed and thank God you didn't get hurt. 💛Utah
She is so incredibly intelligent! Her brain works so fast, she is only in the moment for a split second. Your patience is what reached her! Thanx for sharing this with us 😊
You are so brave to allow your love for these magnificent beasts override your knowledge that they can seriously harm you
Beautiful Mara ❤ You all worked so hard and she kept trying despite her nerves 💞 Thank you Steve!
Horse whisperer Steve is amazing. Love to watch his expertise with horses.
My goodness, I’m not sure who was breathing the hardest at times Steve or Mara! Cool, calm, kind and confident horsemanship by Steve. You could also tell Tanya was worried as her tension was oozing through the camera and she didn’t reply to Steve on a couple of occasions - not surprisingly - her heart must have been in her mouth! The mare didn’t look like she worked up a sweat but I bet Steve did under that fleece!
Wonder if Steven will be called upon to help with those horses from household cavalry.
They certainly need someone with Steve's horsemanship skills to help train the cavalry horses and the riders. It's not the first incident they've had with spooked horses and unseated riders. So sad. Wishing the injured horses and riders speedy recovery.❤
The whole vid I was really worried Mara would hurt Steve or herself. She is absolutely gorgeous mare, her conformation and movement and everything, but so anxious...! I feel for Tanya, she must've been worried as hell, watching this beautiful yet dangerous mare dance around Steve, snorting like a dragon, threatening him. It was great to see how Steve helped Mara overcome her fear of trailer. I'm sure her owner Michelle is over the moon!
Michelle did a ton of the helping too, without her it would have taken Steve far more time, as he mentioned, to get Mara cooperating.
@@louisegogel7973 Yeah, her love and dedication for Mara is inspiring :) And Mara trusts her completly :)
What a beautiful, intelligent horse 🐎 Mara loves and trusts her owner so much - wonderful to see.
Well done to everyone, a great success story 😊
Bravo!!! That was a tougher case and you truly helped this mare to get past her survival fear!!! ❤❤❤
A great move to integrate the owner more into this one and use that trust. A real team effort this one. What a character persistence is definitely the key because she's a clockwise horse :)
❤❤❤
Is Mara a Fressian cross, I have one and they are super smart. Mine watches me like he’s studying me every tine he claps eyes on me. It’s like what’s your mood today.
How amazing that she loves and trusts Michelle so much ❤what an intelligent beautiful Horse…
Blessings ❤❤❤😊😊
What a flipping good owner! Clearly has her horses trust. Hats off to you Steve.
Wow, your work with horses is so patient and respectful. I learn so much from your videos. I really appreciate your talents! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Honestly, from the start of this video, her behavior in the stall was clearly indicative of her sensitivity. Sooo alert and interactive! A seriously intelligent horse.
Steve you're a real gentleman with great talent and skills... you're more than a horse trainer you're a horse whisperer...you have a great heart ❤️💜❤️
What lovely bedding in that stable!
What a beautiful connection with her owner ❤
Mara is absolutely stunning and so in tune with her mum! Steve you are so very good and it was a joy to see her walk in without fear. 😊
Such incredible patience and understanding of this horse’s thinking processes. Impressive. ❤❤
The way the horse mind puts experiences together for the future is truly incredible. She knows he's not there to hurt her but she know his plan might. All linked together.
What a beautiful horse❤
she wants to be good, she is just frightened , poor baby, you can tell she's a good horse.
Mara is magnificent!
Mara is one very switched on mare who has a truly beautiful relationship with her owner. You could see she really trusts her.
She is definitely a beautiful mare!
They sure got their money’s worth today from you😃Great job❣️
Such a magnificent horse! A true black beauty! ❤
Brilliant brilliant brilliant 👏👏👏👏
Great job, I’m glad you were able to help her. And what a beautiful horse.
Getting through wasn’t easy. Good result for this beautiful mare.
An absolute Black Beauty❤🐎❤ Steve is amazing to watch, patience is definitely a virtue ! , lovely Mara what a clever girl she is.
Best video yet! ❤❤❤❤. Poor girl. She’s lucky to have Steve.
The end of ur video brought tears to my eyes!! Thank you for what u guys do!
Heart in my mouth watching this !!!
Welch eine Schönheit von Pferd. Wie schön, dass es geklappt hat ❤👍😎
Very educational video.
You’re confident that a breakthrough will come .
This one was truly a test of your patience and skills and belief that you can do it.
Ithink she loved and trusted her owner enough that after you got her through her post traumatic stress she wanted to please her owner I hope you don’t get another one like that Steve!
❤❤❤
Wow! What a great success!
What a gorgeous horse she is. So smart!!
YooHooo. I have been at Yates place Campground for almost 2 weeks waiting for your arrival. It will be a pleasure to be with you in person. You are my hero and calming pill before sleep. What you do for each horse...you do for my soul. God be with you on your flight and drive
See you soon.
What a tough time she’s having. So distressed. Blessed that you could help her.
I just watched this on my tv (big screen) I was on the edge of my seat during the whole video. This horse and owner are SO FORTUNATE to have a trainer of Steve’s caliber to come to help this horse. Sadly, I know a lot of horses that could use his
expertise. So much knowledge in one video. Thank you very much!!!
Amazing. 🤩 What happened in London this week shows how intelligent, sensitive and vulnerable horses really are.😢I am so pleased that you got this mare to trust you, but with all of your experience and understanding of horse psychology, you knew what techniques would work. I really enjoyed seeing Mara come out the other side. 😊I hope they get the safety covers for the van to protect this beauty.
Having building material dropped from a height right next to the horses is a huge unexpected scare that any person would likely also be freaked out by. I am glad they all are doing better and I hope the constructions folk have learned a good lesson… that could have been very serious for the horses and riders, let alone if random people walking by got hit
Just an amazing video! I kept thinking throughout the video about the importance of getting help in instances like this. Horsemen like Steve know the horses body language to keep them and the horse as safe as they can. Kudos to Michelle the owner. I was also amazed at the intelligence of Mara! She totally remembered Steve and what he represented. When Mara turned her backside to Steve in the stall EVEN I KNEW what she was thinking. EXCELLENT video
God, she is so beautiful.
What an intelligent horse.
Loved watching the process and progress! Welcome back to the US. We are lucky to have you over here too.
Steve you are amazing figuring out the right thing for this horse. I love watching you work your loving patience and magic with every horse and owner that you help overcome severe problems and stress.❤😊❤
Mara is gorgeous, and so bright! I was wondering if she’d have haltering/bridling problems after such an awful poll injury, but no,
her painful, mental selfie pic
was taken at the low entry to her trailer, and there it stuck. Steve,
this was a great video
about the persistence
needed to break through a deep fear in horses, without adding
more fear to it. Thank you SO much for helping Mara!
Well done Steve, well done Mara 🤍
If you ever reach heaven when you are old, I reckon a whole herd of horses will run to greet you Steve 🤍
What a lovely horse. Lovely, Lovely, Lovely.
What a brilliant segment to watch - well done Steve !
This is a great day for that horse and owner… God bless Steve and Tanya for their work!
I am noticing how much the owner is talking to the horse… I’m similar, but as I watch, it’s almost unnerving because it feels like the horse could react to it and hurt someone. But I’m not sure… I’m trying not to talk so much to my horse but show my love and gentle yet insistent discipline by moving her feet. I’m even trying not to feed by hand or patting…. Stroking more!
Good , hard, work Steve. Great filming Tanya. Even with editing down we still got the idea that one has to keep at it and reward little wins. 💖
Well done AGAIN Steve and Tanya .......
Have a good trip to North Carolina. Look forward to seeing some of your magic there !
And Michelle!
Really, really gorgeous horse
Awesome, as always. Methods the best! ❤
Wish I could come to North Carolina and see you work in person!😢. I have watched other trainers but they don’t use half of your techniques and I think they don’t have the respect of the horse as a result. I no longer have a horse but so wish I did, because I would be using your technique for sure every day. Training dogs again now😊!
Just super work!!!
WOW, two stubborn personalities, glad you won over Steve for both the horse and owner's sake. Very dangerous situation...don't blame Tanya for worrying. Take care on your trip.🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
No doubts she is an intelligent, clever mare... Did make me smile her reaction to you, not meant in any bad way just interesting to see how she's got you and what you want figured and is acting out. You're an amazing horseman and it's good to see you being challenged and how you handle it. Great vid and what a beautiful clever mare.
Brilliant! Just brilliant horsemanship. Mara is an exceptionally intelligent horse and she knew who you were, knew what you were there for, she knew you were going to move her feet and she was not going to get away with anything, that's why she reacted to you the way she did. She loves her owner but knew you were her match and more! So well done!
That horse. 😍🤩 Safe travels in America.
How amazing to see Steve working his gifted, magic! I didn’t think it would be possible.
Congratulations all… I’ve never seen such a beautiful and intelligent horse… 🙏🏼
Animals are so smart ❤
Another fantastic video. Safe travels
Wow! What a great job with your patience, knowledge and courage. Again, Wow. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow that was a potentially volatile situation! She had every reason not to go in to the trailer and not to trust you. Its a real testament to your skills; and to her temperament because she could easily have followed through on her threats..🎊🥂
Steve is a great trainer .
One wonders what will be the emotional impact on the Royal Household Cavalry Army Horses in London recently. {April 24th 2024}
They were seriously hurt and traumatised - there is bound to be an emotional reaction after such a horrible incident.
I hope they follow the Queen’s long and great example, to use homeopathy to help the horses regain balance. I’ve seen it do wonders with a well matched remedy.
What a BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL mare! And with that wide forehead with lots of space for that very intelligent brain! I'm so glad for Mara to have overcome her very justified fear of being in a trailer. And that last one where she banged her head so hard does look too low for her. The other one had more headroom.
The lorry had more headroom to enter, but less room for her body and neck once she was in. I think that's why she wouldn't/couldn't move her hind quarters over. Once she was in the trailer she had plenty of room for her neck and head and consequently her hind end. She is an amazing, intelligent, stunningly beautiful horse.
Wow, what a case! Steve, you are amazing with all the patience and understanding of the horse. 👍 And Tanya for the nerves to watch your husband in such dangerous situations. 🙈
And Michelle for her calm and steady support to help Steve and Mara connect.
What a challenge!
