Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, the threat of a nuclear war has drastically increased. TV Rain's Ekaterina Kotrikadze spoke with Ira Helfand, anti-nuclear weapons activist and 1985 Nobel Peace Prize winner. They discussed the possibility of Vladimir Putin using nuclear weapons, how the West might respond to that, and what a nuclear strike might look like.

the bigger question is: does he trust his scape bunkers? At this stage it is hard to say that he cares about russian population and would not proceed because of russian casualties

The key word, of these 12, is the 7th, the pronoun. Does "us" include a Vladimir Putin, hungry for territorial gain, and scared that the Russian people may deprive him of his power?

What all seem to do is not consider physics and money, when talking nukes!!!
Physics involves factors like... Half life of tritium... Most powerful nukes Russia has were made by the Soviets in 1988, these are 800 kilotons devices... BUT... After 36 years, tritium decay means that... the yield would be reduced to 16-24 kilotons... IF the warhead still can detonate and this is very dubious... Add to this that the Soviet designs use Polonium-210 in their initiators, and it has only a 158 days half life.... This means very very high maintenance costs as the warheads have to be constantly overhauled... Western nukes ownership is much lower in maintenance costs as the element used in initiators has a 2.9 years half life... But, consider this... IT's not the US military that maintains US nukes, it's the Dept. of Energy... And they spend more than $100 billions a year and still struggle to maintain the full US arsenal fully operational, while the vectors are charged on the Dept. of Defense, and look at the price of missiles, submarines, silos, etc! It's absolutely gigantic and, on the long run, the biggest cost is not at building it, it's the same as aircraft: fuel ans maintenance cost way more than buying the aircraft...
So, to sustain the alleged Russian nuclear arsenal, well, this would involve even more than what the USA spends...
Now, look at the 2021 military budgets... India had a larger mil-budget than Russia... Land armies are similars in numbers, Russia has about twice as much combat aircraft and navy vessels as India, and Indian salaries are lower, and corruption levels are much lower too... Therefore, India can obviously afford to sustain a bigger nuclear arsenal than Russia... And India only sustains about 130 warheads...
And, actually, if Gorbie went to Reagan, it's because... The Soviet arsenal was already serious gaslighting while the West is not about BS : When western powers speak nukes, it's not mind games and BS: the nukes are real, actually, when you speak about countries like France or Israel, both have much larger arsenals than what is publicly said...
So... Medvedev may threaten to nuke Paris when Solovyov says they will nuke French 3 biggest cities that are Paris, Lyon and Marseille...
Well, there is NATO's AEGIS and AEGIS-Ashore anti-ballistic shield... And, unlike S-400/500 or A-135/235, Aegis is not crap... Then... close watching og the footage of the interception of the "unbeatable" hypersonic Konzhal missile over Kiyv wasn't done by Patriot, but by France-given SAMP/T "MAMBA" : Patriot don't do vertical launch and you always launch 2 missiles at once while MAMBA has a 98.5% kill rate on a single missile...
So, most of the crap will be intercepted... But now comes the fun : French nuclear forces are NOT into NATO (nope) and the nuclear doctrine is not a "no first strike" one at all, in fact, it's even about doing preemptive nuclear strikes... Then, there is the nature of these nukes : the Soviets already criticized the French bomb as the true capitalist weapon: it's wrongly called the neutron bomb and Soviets highlighted it would kill people while preserving real estate to be re-used... In fact, these are reinforced radioactive effect ones, so... a 100 kilotons one will do 100 kilotons damages, but will kill as much as a 1 megaton one through ARS instead of thermal effect!
And, by doing a little math, you deduct that France has... 640 of these onboard submarines and 58 300 kiloton "pre-strategic" more "normal" thermonuclears into Mach3 stealth cruise missiles... Note that the M51.3 SLBMs onboard submarines are stealth since 2020. Each carries 10 MIRVed warheads...
So, what's next with the Medvedev follies and the Solovyov hard one?
France has the most insanely powerful trans horizon radar on the planet, the NOSTRADAMUS... It detects launches of Russian missiles with trajectories towards Paris, Lyon and Marseille... Considering the Russian threats proffered, the French Prez consider it's a nuke attack. Within 2 minutes, the 64 M51.3 SLBMs take off and will just hit the 309 Russian cities (50k inhabitants or more) while other warheads will do surfaces bursts in arable land areas in order to maximise fallout, making the 1.29 millions km² of arable lands in Russia covered by radioactive dust...
Russian missiles may end intercepted and are also likely to fail to detonate or miss targets, as proven as their recent test of nuclear missiles, but what will hit Russia within a few minutes, actually, less than 8 minutes... It will be a game over, and survivors will curse Putin and his cronies for the woe that came because of their stupidity and imperialism...
French don't speak loud about their nukes but, in 2022 and 2023, they did M51.3 and ASMPA-R validation test (ASMPA is renamed ASMPA-R as its range has been extended)... All reached their targets, unlike Russian Yars and Bulava... Not speaking about the RS-28 Sarmat which again exploded before leaving the atmosphere...

Spectacular display of ... little bit of nonsense.
The tritium in the triggers can be refreshed and is produced continuously in light water reactors. The production can easily be ramped up by the introduction of lithium into the core.
The secondary contains lithium deuteride and the tritium for fusion is produced during the detonation.
The Russian nukes will work (most of the time) and be as powerful as newly made.

      @harounel-poussah6936 Před měsícem

@@squireson Pure propaganda... It's polonium in the instigator... what you call trigger in this context is "just" the A-bomb that is used to trigger the fusion fuel in a thermonuclear : unlike the French or the Yankee, you don't have the capability to store antimatter and use it to directly "trigger" a fusion reaction, thus, I'm not saying it has been weaponised, and it's clear that e.g. an AGM-114 Hellfire with a yield of 250 kilotons would be a bit on the overkill side, thus, using antimatter as a 1st stage would make "clean" nukes... Any way, you still need Mil-Grade Plutonium or Uranium in the 1st stages of your alleged nukes and all that crap has been sold to NPPs during the 90's, no surprise that so many high ranking militaries of this era became wealthy oligarchs...
Which one? Lithium 6 Deuteride or Lithium 7 Deuteride? Considering the payload of some russian missiles and the yield of warheads, I'm a bit dubious about the miniaturisation capabilities... Are you sure they're not just left with liquid deuterium which for sure, can bring about 30% more yield than the Lithium-6 DT, but.... It's a cryogenic liquid...
I mean, look at the Oniks cruise missile : it's rated with a 200kg payload or a 200 kilotons warhead... Well, a 200kg nuke in the West yields 800 kilotons... (might be much more if antimatter is used as a primary stage, but anything about AM military applications is hyper-classified, I don't even know if they built the AM factory they were speaking about around 10-15 years ago, and I'm not sure I'm willing to know)...
The "Tsar" has no clothes... For sure, he still has some nuclear crackers left... Let him use some, it will be the first day the word "Russian Federation" will disappear from all maps, being replaced by R.I.Z : "Radioactive interdiction zone" and everyone will say : "they deserved it", "Good riddance", "The more you fuck around, the more you will find out... They did both"...
Putin, or is it Putin's body double with Patrushev pulling the strings, seems constipated... He should consider using some Yars, Bulava, Sineva, Topol-M or Sarmat as a dildo in order to enlarge is sphincters... Maybe he should ask Donald Vanshitz Hispantz how to solve his anal occlusion... Donnie has the contrary issue: he needs diapers... Once the shit can flow out of Putin's ass instead of reaching his brain, maybe Vladolf Putler, AKA "Huylo" will finally understand that there's only one thing that can save Russia : GTFO of Ukraine, period!
