Reviving our 1946 Air Compressor!

In this video, our air compressor tried to kill us!! Okay, not really...but it could have! Our 1946 shop compressor rusted through the bottom of the tank due to age and moisture. Thankfully it was only a pin hole, but it could have been explosive. Remember to drain those air compressor tanks regularly to prevent this!! Nick was able to reuse the 1946 pump and motor from the rusted out 60-gallon tank, onto a new 1988 80-gallon tank. We have air again!!

Yeah have to keep the rest.. period correct part of the place. Love that shop! Funny… back in the day I was in my 280z roasting my tires at Locust blossom in front of that garage and now here you are! Ha!

That’s pretty neat. Did you guys add the intercooler or was that on the original? Does it have a drain for the intercooler? That could be what kept that tank from blowing long ago; if most of the moisture has drained off before the check valve/tank.
I looks like an old two or three stage pump? Very cool! You’d be hard pressed to find one that cool these days.

The intercooler tube is original, but there is no drain in the intercooler unfortunately. I believe 2 stage pump, and we agree, definitely not made like this anymore!

Add an air dryer between pump to tank. So moisture doesn't corrode it from inside out. And twice a year I like to fog my compressor tank with wd40 to keep the metal inside coated and protected from corrosion forming from any moisture
