  • The insulation on the copper refrigerant lines of our LG mini split AC unit were destroyed by the elements. In this video, my wife and I replace them. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments, and thanks for watching.

    This is a fantastic video! I also have five LG mini splits here in New Mexico and I noticed the exact same thing happening where the insulation has pretty much decided to give out. I'm still exploring different options of how to do it myself, but this is an excellent video and one that I am highly considering. As a side note, how long has this lasted? Is it still going strong or have you noticed issues with this method?

    Nice video. What drew you to check the lines? Efficiency of the mini splits drop off or because it was new property? Did you check for any pinhole leaks before going thru the expense and trouble of wrapping the lines? My OEM insulation on the lines is destroyed as well and I am determining how best to proceed. Your video is helpful!

      Thanks J P. When my wife and I bought the house last year, the inspector made note of the lines, that the insulation was practically gone, so that's what initially drew me to look at it. I did not check for any pinhole leaks (in fact, the thought never even occurred to me) but that's a great idea. I should have thought of that. I'm glad the video is helpful, thanks for your feedback on that. Best of luck in getting yours taken care of.

    Great job... that multi zone mini split install is horrible on that roof. There was no care given when they installed that system. All those line sets should have been placed on unistrut pieces and had cushion clamps holding them. Outdoor condenser could have been placed on a stand to secure better.

    I’m confused. Some videos are saying not to wrap both copper pipes, only insulate and wrap the larger one. What is your thoughts on wrapping both? I couldn’t tell at the end did you wrap the two insulated copper pipes together ?

      I don't know about wrapping only the larger of the two. I just figured, "Hey, they're both copper, so I'll insulate both" (the larger diameter line as well as the smaller diameter line). Having said that, I did NOT wrap them "together". Which is to say, I did not wrap them to each other. They're separately insulated and separated from each other.

    I'm also here in high-desert New Mexico. CZcams marks your video as having been up a year. How has it gone? Everything still good?

      That’s an excellent question. I will plan on doing a follow up video on how it’s looking after a year.

    Can i wrap the foam on my outside ac unit with aluminum tape to make it last longer?

    • @TheologicalDissident
      @TheologicalDissident  Před 4 měsíci

      I would imagine that it can’t hurt to do that. Seems like silver/reflective tape can only help to make it last longer.
