The FSU Leach Gym was very popular for students to meet their "significant other". I eventually met a female friend over there when working out on the cardio equipment. I was also there when the "Jenn Sterger" craze was happening in the early days of Facebook. I saw her once in the gym. She was dressed very casual with gray sweatpants and shirt. FSU has a vibrant "dating culture". But with my background from population statistics in public health at FSU, I have to point out that divorce rates are highest for those under age 25 - especially in the southeastern USA. When I was in graduate school at FSU, a lot of classmates around ages 22-23 were massively rushing into marriage. You could see the news feeds on Facebook for announced engagements, wedding plans, bridal registry, etc. Today, a lot of them are divorced - some within a few years of the early 20s marriage. A former marriage counselor who got a master's degree for psychology at FSU told me that the concept of "the perfect marriage" is like trying to go undefeated in D1 college football - for most people it's not realistic. Expect the "ups" and "downs". Honestly, I think a lot of those guys just weren't aware of how expensive and hard fatherhood is. Would a guy at age 19 having a fun social life at FSU truly feel comfortable taking care of an infant child with cholic (severe intestinal pain common in newborns) at age 22 at 3 in the morning? Probably not. Marriage is not for the faint of heart. The FSU graduates who are successful in marriage generally approach it with realism and wait until their late twenties (26, 27, etc.). A lot of middle-aged men who married their "college sweetheart" also leave their wives in middle-age like in the movie "First Wives Club". But in recent years there is also a growing pattern of wives who end the marriage. It can succeed but only with realism and careful preparation.
Hey Manuel! I think that this is great advice to anybody out there that's still in college looking for that 'perfect' relationship. So many people have the urgency to get married out of college, but all the stats you provided were really helpful in seeing the reality of how things truly go after college. Relationships are hard work and far from perfect and I think it's good to see that, especially because, as you said, marriage is not for the faint of heart, and this will help a lot of college kids like myself to better prepare for our futures.

That's an awesome thing man, stay strong! Definitely keep communication the number one priority for sure. We facetime nightly no matter what, and text throughout the day. We also make it a point to see each other every 3-4 weeks or so. Just always keep in mind that if its the right person then it'll be so worth the struggle so stick it out through the hard times and talk out everything because it'll be so worth it in the end
