  • Live concert "Requiem for Pink Moon", An Elizabethan Tribute to Nick Drake (1948-74). This arrangement of Campion's "Never weather-beaten saile" flows directly into Nick Drake's "Horn" (a reprise in the program--quicker this time) and then moves to a portion of the Mass for the Dead, the Requiem.

This performance of Never Weather Beaten Sail should have received far more attention. You have created a sublime experience - even at one remove online. Brilliant and sensitive!

Thank you, Michael. Please feel free to share it! Of course, I would be very pleased if more people hear it. I think the arrangement works… I hope you are familiar with the whole CD? Requiem for a Pink Moon.

Never Weather Beaten Sail is perhaps my favourite song (depending on the day) and this is my fave rendition... but imagine my distress I felt to find out the tenor has passed, after listening to this interpretation for years. However sad that is, it makes the lyrics, and the experience of listening to this, even more impactful. "Cold age deafs not there our ears nor vapour dims our eyes... oh come quickly... and take my soul to rest."

Seems I never replied.... We miss Tim every day. Perhaps you have listened to the whole CD-Program? This song occupies an important place in the dramaturgy of the program, just preceding the reprise of "Horn" and a second rendition of the Requiem Mass. Thank you for writing, Joel

@@ensemblephoenixmunich2210 That's terrific! He has a wonderful instrument. I developed my love of Early Music from studying with the famous counter tenor, Russell Oberlin. He was my voice Professor at Hunter College in the late 80's. I also sang in his small early music ensemble group called The Collegium Musicum. What a delight to perform and entertain my fellow students and people who came to our concerts. Seeing your ensemble really makes me wish I was still doing the same. Good work and Love & Peace!

@@JaeMonroeVocalist Russel Oberlin was a great singer and teacher! Congrats on working with him. I cut my teeth in early music at NYU with Dr. Stanley Boorman in the Collegium and studied lute with Patrick O'Brien in NY. I remember that Russel passed away a few years ago and I didn't mean to be cryptic about saying I would pass your message along to Tim.... Tim passed away in September of last year and I am still mourning his loss! He was a great friend and colleague. Wishing you good health and happiness in return!

@@ensemblephoenixmunich2210 Oh I am so sorry about Tim's passing! Grief has been a big part of my life for the past several years. However, I feel that one may keep their loved ones alive in their memories. I think about my deceased older brother every day, but I always think of the good times we had. I'm sure you feel the same about Tim. That's the one great thing about music and musicians is through our work we will always remain immortal. If you ever come to NY please let me know! Perhaps I could sing with you and do a memorial song for your friend such as Dido's Lament. Which Professor Oberlin taught me. :) I love this music so much and you are a wonderful musician. Thank you so much for communicating with me!

Thank you for telling us. Yes, beautiful singing from Tim. We take some liberties with the original Campion piece in the spirit of the whole recording of "Requiem for a Pink Moon". Playing the program this evening and will think of you and your Dad....

Feels and sounds like a real christian farewell song should be - full of hope, uplifting, joy to join the father in heaven... not like these songs full of sorrow and hopeless pain...
