10 things I disliked about uc berkeley | from a computer science + business major

- "Why is UC Berkeley bad" was a top search I saw, so I wanted to make a video somewhat answering that question, and here it is! 10 things that I really did not like about attending Cal as a recent grad. Not going to lie, the title is definitely a bit dramatic, I still had an amazing experience. I definitely am a proud alumni who does not regret picking Cal. If anything, these are just things that surprised me about Cal that may be helpful for you to know beforehand! These are all my own opinions from my own experience, so take them with a grain of salt :)

Please note that these are more just things I didn't really like about Cal, it's still an incredible school. This is not at all meant to hate on the school, but more to just shine some light on the things I found not-so-great about Cal.
Thank you for the video. It was very helpful. I have heard a lot about people not being able to graduate on time because they can't get into the courses they need. My child wants to do cognitive science at Cal and minor in CS. Do you think that is doable? Since even CS major can't get into the courses, I wonder if you know anyone who has successfully done a minor in CS and still graduate on time?

To add on to con #6: yes crime is prevalent but if you’re from a city (or anywhere that’s not a nice suburb) it’s actually not that different from any other city! I can see how the topic of safety is always a con for Cal but please remember it’s a city and you need to become “street smart”. I would recommend looking up videos/vlogs on city life if you’ve never been exposed to that lol
I agree. I grew up in the bay and spent most of my time in Berkeley and San Francisco. I never really felt it was that bad. Never really had any issues.

Whats this about a counseling? you actually have a service where you can speak to someone and see how everything is going? Do they also offer advice?
Edit; I also mean at every level of school as well, not something I have ever had or heard of happening in the UK.
We have guidance counselors in each college, and each student will be assigned to one for all 4 years. We’re to meet with them whenever we need class, major, etc. advice!
The club thing is plain stupid, there's no justifying it. Same thing at SJSU.
My sister and I took a tour today, April 28 2021 and we witnessed what you meant about violence.
It is ridiculous that girls have to worry about safety in one of the best universities in the bay area.

"Prevalent crime" is really just a bunch of petty theft. It's super annoying, as in lock your bike wheels, never leave your stuff unattended, etc. But it isn't really unsafe. Honestly, the only reason to not go to Berkeley is if you get into a better school. If it's the best school you got accepted to, then go to Berkeley.
Incredible school, definitely happy with my decision to transfer out to USC, any berk student will know that almost all of the professors are certainly not going to see the pearly gates
