    A couple years ago, when I bought a JD S680 I was offered $18,000.00 for my 2003 9750sts. I decided to keep it because the two front tires were just replaced at $3500.00 each. I’m glad I kept it, with an 8 row head in very good corn I can run 4 mph before the combine overloads and the grain is very clean. The 680 always has small cob and husk pieces in the sample.

    What I love about these combines is as old as they are they are still modern enough that the gap between a STS combine and S series isn't as big as a Titian combine and STS series combine

    Got a early 9650sts last year after a long time search, so far very impressed with it. Replaced a IH 1460 that I ran for 21 years which was and still is a great machine, just harder on me to operate and to little sieve area for high yielding corn on hills.

      I have been looking for a 9750 STS for several years. I have filmed the 9450, 9550 and 9650. The 9750 STS has been hard to find. This was a nice one.

    The 9750 STS happened to be my favorite combine! Especially the 2000-2001 models with the old logo like this one.

    Thanks for the history lesson. You mention that JD entered the self-propelled combine market in 1947. That would be with the model 55. We operated two of them in the 1950's and 60's on our farm in northern California. We used then for harvesting dry-land barley, which we raised in rotation with irrigated sugar beets and dry beans. We later used them for harvesting corn.
    We started raising corn with the invention of the Orland corn header, which was manufactured in the the northern California town of Orland. It cut the stalks with a sickle-bar, feeding the whole stalk into the combine. We switched to the snapper header when John Deere introduced them a few years later. They snapped off the ears, and feed only the ears, with husks and some leaves, into the combine, significantly reducing the job of separating the grain out.
    Both types of headers were two-row, which seemed like plenty at the time. Only planters and cultivators were four-row then, and we never imagined larger equipment.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes the 55 was the first Deere self propelled. That is really interesting about the Orland corn head. Being able to shell corn with a combine changed the harvest in a big way.
      I grew watching a 95EB harvesting red and white kidney beans. It ran a 3 row corn head for corn harvest.

    We still run a 9750sts on our 1200 acre farm and it’s a great machine. If it had powerfold extentions and a bigger auger we’d keep it till it blew lol unfortunately we’re getting to the point where we’ll prolly have it for another year or so and then look at a s series. Great video!

    I work for a farm that uses 2 JD 9660 STS combines (1 is a bullet rotor) and 1 JD 9760 STS combine. These combines are used to cut anything from wheat, milo, corn, and soybeans

    Great find! This was deeres poster combine back then. This one looks to be in really nice shape…he really moves right along with it. We own a 1996 9500 & a 2002 9550. Quite an upgrade going from 9500 to 9550.

    • @tf7274
      @tf7274 Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah we went from a 1995 9500 with the 9600 engine to a 2017 S680 with 700hrs...S680 is tough to set in anything above 26%....in 140bu corn the 9500 is 3.4...S680 is 4.8 mph with the same head...but above 200bu corn the S680 just cruises. Mind you it uses 3x the fuel...and DEF

    • @EDBZ28
      @EDBZ28 Před 9 měsíci

      @@tf7274 I’m really thinking I’d like to switch to a rotary combine someday. We still have a small square bale market for straw, so we’ve kept these walker combines, but they s l o w - going in beans. Corn I don’t mind them in bc we’re only set up for 6 row and have a 12 row planter, so I don’t wanna switch to an 8 row head. I’ve heard a lotta horror-stories about jd S series, as far as longevity and reliability.

      @tf7274 Před 9 měsíci

      @@EDBZ28 I think the 9550 is a beauty. Ours I put the chaffer to the size of a kernel...open the bottom sieve all the way and turned the fan down...blazing fast in corn.

    • @tf7274
      @tf7274 Před 2 měsíci

      He was flying...he would be astonished how similar it would be to a S680...until about 220bu per acre...after that the S680 cruises along while the 9750 will slow down.

  • @bcdieselsofficial
    @bcdieselsofficial Před 9 měsíci

    That was really neat to see! I don’t know why, but it feels like that older style spout fits better with combines with the old logo and conventional combine harvesters. On rotary combines, the end spout that sticks out more seems to be more prevalent. However, that old spout on the combine is very interesting. On our farm, we have a 9550 and a 9660 STS with the 8.1 L and 9 L engines, respectively. Now if the 9750 was able to handle a 12 row corn header without issue, would it be able to handle a 35 foot header?
