- Apple has been making earbuds like AirPods for two decades, but they’ve only ever offered them in one color: white. So why is Apple willing to make colorful iPhones and iMacs, but not colorful AirPods? Well that’s what I’ll explain right now.

The s21 ultra is a way better phone than the iPhone 12 pro Max in many ways.they are so far ahead of the iPhone that the next iPhone won't even have all of the features that the s21 ultra has now like adaptive refresh rate, 1,500 nits, 100 times zoom, 108 megapixel camera, 8K video, the smallest hole punch, on any phone, reverse wireless charging, recording from three cameras at the same time, single take mode and a macro camera. There are many more but I cannot remember them right now. When you see these features on the iPhone 14 do not think that Apple made these features because like usual they are just stealing the features from the last Samsung. This is quite interesting. So even though Apple is much more well known now, but whenever they want to popularise a product or make it mainstream, they make it so unique, so easily identifiable to further stabilise that product’s reputation and increase it’s perceived popularity

I still find the idea of “AirPods Max” to be absurd. At that point, they aren’t pods. Plus, they’re way more expensive than the Bose noise cancelling headphones I already have

The white earphones were such a great marketing and brand identity move that when they first came out the police here had to put out PSA’s, warning people to not wear them because they actually made you more susceptible to being mugged/robbed!

They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.
It makes sense to have multiple color choices with the Airpods Max because their design is very distinctive unlike with the small Earpods and Airpods.
I think if they do release colorful earpods or airpods/airpods pro, I’ll still use the white/silver ones. It kinda became a „tradition” of sorts to me and I think I’ll capitalize on that.

It has a pretty simple reason: Apple is always into making something better and unique than other companies. Many other companies which design wireless earphones use many colors. Whereas Apple uses only white. This is because Apple wanted to make a unique profile of itself.

Let me tell you about something called Beats lol. Their wired buds have a logo.
Samsung's wired earbuds have it too.
Still, ear buds are too small to have an easily seen logo unless someone stares at your ears.

I've often thought about this earbuds colour choice aspect, great to see it answered!!
Though in my view it's a bit overkill, the iPod etal were good by themselves, didn't really need / have to have distinctive earphones to stand out.
Remember that Apple was barely out of the bankruptcy gutter when the iPod came out, and there was already a budding market for portable digital music players. They had to make theirs iconic from the get go. Also remember, iPod sales only took off after they were made compatible with Windows, which only happened 2 years after the release of the 1st gen iPod, all the more reason to play the "iconic" or "lifestyle brand" card from the start.

My experience with white plastic is that the color would turn yellow in a matter of months. I have had my Airpods for over a year now and they look as white as when they were new. Plus white goes with everything. But I do love me some colors as well, which is why I have a blue iPhone 12.
My first Apple product that I purchased was the iPod 5th Generation (the video one) in black. I was so angry it didn't come with black headphones at the time that I sought after identical looking ones online. This was in 2005 and I was 18 at the time just getting out of high school (I was held back a year) and iPods were like THE thing to have, although my friends and I were just astounded to be able to listen to music that didn't skip when you rattled the device. How times have changed.
Right? I got the ipod 4th gen when I was 13, and thought it was the most badass thing I ever owned. Everyone else had the 5th gen, but I was happy with anything because my parents restricted me for the lonest time up until then.
Well, I feel like the headphones, the buds themselves (wired or wireless), could have been colored as the first thing I see is the cord or the case, not necessarily the buds or even the headphone jack (if applicable). If they wanted to slowly incorporate color, I don't think it would be too costly to start with patches of color but still retaining the white we all know. Maybe simple shapes and colors on the case, colored logos even? I feel like white is always a go-to but for those looking to match there accessories I believe coloring a few of the wired and wireless buds would also be complimentary to their design choice. I mean, it's a minor detail for some, but a major one for others.

I like the plain white because I love all the cases you can get with them to make them your own
To be honest, I think there's a bit of charm to keeping the EarPods/AirPods white, even when other iDevices are starting to get more colorful. The same way the white bezel on the new iMacs contrasts nicely with the pastel colors, I think the same works when you pair EarPods/AirPods with any color device. While everyone's been complaining about the white bezel on the iMac, my personal gripe is I think the color matching cables and stuff looks a bit tacky, since you don't typically see cables in color. They're either black or white, and white just goes better with color in general than black does. One thing I did like though, even if you wanna argue about its physical design, is the Magic Mouse looks great pairing the colors with a top white shell. It just gives it that distinctly "Apple" look and charm I mentioned earlier. Plus, white just gives off this more futuristic look, which I'm sure is why Sony opted to go for a two toned white and black design with the PS5, with white being the predominant color. If they started providing more color options, or made everything a solid single tone, the products would just look like every other product on the market in my opinion. I mean I doubt they'd lose money over it, but like the video states, the identity would be lost. And I'm not trying to act like they're the only company that provides white earbuds or whatever, but when you combine the white with their industrial design, it gives it this futuristic space age look that other companies that provide white earbuds can't replicate.

haha wow I was right all along. I've assumed this a while back, it would just be a dumb business move to change the colour, Apple's earphones/AirPods are pretty iconic, having them in diff colours would ruin their iconic-ness and would shift them to 'any other brand' earphones. Though, since they have done so many models in white for so long, it could possibly be iconic to do a new statement change. Though, I can't see that coming for a while. Plus, it may be some time before they release a better version, since how much better could it get? If it's minor changes, such as improvement in battery life and sound, white would make more sense to keep going. Headphones are a diff story cuz they aren't as iconic for Apple, making them colourful was a statement in itself, though not as successful.
Back when Apple bought Beats, they released some earbuds called BeatsX that were available in multiple colors. Late 2017, I think that was? At least, that's when I bought my first pair of BeatsX earbuds. And today, you can still get them in multiple colors, but they've updated the features a bit and re-named them Beats Flex now. Honestly, for the price, they're the best earbuds Apple makes, in my opinion.

I just bought silicone covers in red that slips over the buds then got cable covers that both items I found on Amazon wish they will get on with it want some Electric Blue buds to match my new iPod touch 7gen love the color
Remember, Apple cares more about their brand identity than what you want out of the product you bought. Screw them, get an android and a PC.

I honestly like the white. It’s simple and I don’t have to worry about finding the colour ugly later on. I think even though the new iMacs and AirPods Pro don’t just come in white/silver, they’re still pretty recognisable by shape and overall design. (So are the regular AirPods and EarBuds, but they’re just not as big.) Anyway, I personally would never buy coloured headphones, but I’m excited about the colourful Macs and matching accessories even though I won’t be buying any of that.
