he sadly died of pancreatic canceron October 3rd 2000 in Atlanta at the age of 53
The Cars have "a couple of songs on the radio". That is a gross understatement.
I about fell over when he said that. 😂
I remember when he passed away from pancreatic cancer💔 They played his solo song Stay the Night on the radio. I named my son Benjamin in his honor. I loved listening to him and The Cars with my parents. RIP🎸🎶
👍
@@veronicareeves2629 💜
I love Stay the Night.
@@cherylnelson3554 Oh so do I! I can't listen to it anymore without crying😭
Amen that, what a great tribute to him.
Lamont, Ben's buried next to his half-brother and wife. Those are NOT his parents. Thanks for stopping by Benjamin Orr's grave. He was a terrific bass player and lead singer...and very easy on the eyes! 😎 🎸
Extremely 🥰
Ben is not buried next to his parents as you mentioned, that is Ben’s older half-brother & wife in the adjacent graves. I visited last year on our way home a day after my husband’s band played for New Waterford OH Beer & Wine Festival. We left one of his guitar picks. Glad you showed that unique Sofa with Pillow & TV Remote gravestone, I thought it was great. A very quiet small cemetery in the middle of nowhere.
A close friend of mine died of stage 4 pancreatic cancer that he never knew he had,it was just before xmas he said to me he didnt feel well at all so i asked him to call doctors by 4am ish the next morning he was in hospital and told he didnt have long to live,i got to see him once he died 4 months later. I miss chatting with him, that was really hard on me losing him that quick 😞
I'm so sorry for your loss Sally. I lost my cousin to pancreatic cancer several years ago. It's a very agressive cancer and unfortunately is often stage 3 or stage 4 by the time it is diagnosed. My deepest condolences to you.
RIP to Benjamin and Ocasek. Two of the leads of The Cars 🙏🏽

@@ebrena1876 Wow. Okay, thank you!
I live close to this cemetery and have visited his grave. It was touching to see all of the tributes left by his fans.
Yes. Love the little cars.
I love the little cars people left
I am planning on coming out there next July. Leave something for both him and his family.
My mother died of pancreatic cancer in 1975 at the age 54. It was diagnosed in 1974. She died one year later after being diagnosed. I understand how quickly it can take a life.
My grandmother died of the disease back in the early 90's she was in her early 60's.
So very sorry. Pancreatic cancer is so sneaky and deadly.
So sorry
It spreads into the liver without notice. And there's nothing medicine can do about it.
What are symptoms
I cried when I found out that he died just literally pour my heart out he was so damn good looking I love all of his music I am a die hard fan of the cars rest in peace we are going to love and miss you
The Cars are one of the few bands from that Era that didn't go over the top with the drugs or indulgence. Class act!
We were at a 3 day outdoor festival where he played solo and also with “Big People” … after his killer set he climbed down off the stage into the crowd and hung out and stayed with us there and watched the next bands who played . I had never seen anybody do that before . What a nice guy ! RIP Ben 🎸❤️😇
He was such a sweetheart 🥰❤️

Wow thanks for sharing that story.
RIP Benjamin Orr and thank you for sensational music you produced.
The Cars were amazing, very talented. They made it look so easy.
The Cars was very successful here in Brazil in the 80s
I'm now 53... and a musician... grew up listening to The Cars... still enjoy their music even more than as a younger me... having seen Ben Orr's grave before in pictures and noticing the Christian cross on it, I do hope that he trusted Jesus of Nazareth as Savior and Messiah... he had God given talent and what a beautiful voice...
Yes, I pray so too! He definitely had a huge gift.
Me to 51 though
I loved him so much he sang so great, I was so sad that he died from cancer. They were one of my favourite bands next to Def Leppard.
Thank you for this reckoning of Ben Orr. My favorite Cars song with his vocal is "Let's Go." I can listen to that song no matter how much time passes. He is deserving of this respectful tribute. Thank you very much for posting.
Yes. And "All Mixed Up" really shows his vocal range & perfection. Dramatic stuff.
I loved this band!! Thank you so much for going and visiting him. He was my favorite. 🕊🕊🕊
Stay the night on the lace album was a great song . The band stayed with him after his last show till he died so sad
Oh wow, truly kind of them. I'm glad for him that they were there for him. They must have been really good guys. R.I.P. Benjamin Orr. ♥️💔💕. 🎶🎸🎤🎶
That entire album is excellent. I listen several times a month, sometimes several a week. Can't even say that about my other absolute favorites - Foreigner 4 & Def Leppard Hysteria. Absolutely love The Cars albums - but his solo, just an amazing feel to it. Instantly pulls me out of a bad mood, so it's the first thing I go for now.
Much as I'd really love to visit there someday, that's most likely never going to be a reality for my own health reasons. So I'm really glad people who do post these videos. I think it says a lot someone w/ that level of talent & fame has a stone/marker as ordinary as any most of us are probably used to seeing. I've heard Benjamin was a very humble person in life, this looks like he was in death as well.
The 80s were my high school and college years, and I loved The Cars. Still do. Drive is by far my favorite song of theirs, and one of my fsvorite songs of all tiime. May Benjamin (and Ric Ocasek) RIP. ♥
I went to High school 1080-84, college 84-88, graduate school 88-89, the. Professional school 1989-93, Incan listen to The Cars 🚘 all the time, Timeless Band 🎸🎸
Rest in Paradise Ben Orr❤You were a beautifull singer! Sing up in Heaven🌹🌈😂❤🎸🌞
He died 23 years ago. He's not singing. Trust me. 😮😮
I lost my Mum to Pancreatic cancer in 2016. Such a horrible quick moving disease. The Cars were one of my family's favorite bands. I had such a huge crush on Benjamin. My love and prayers for everyone who has lost a love one to, or is fighting pancreatic cancer. Be safe Lamont 😘.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I have lost two family members to pancreatic cancer and a dear friend of mine lost her mom to pancreatic cancer. It truly is a horrible disease. I was so saddened to hear of Benjamin's passing in 2000. I miss him so much and listen to his beautiful voice every day.
There are not many guys in rock music with a better voice than Ben had. Hell, in any genre for that matter. He could gravel it up but when he wanted to just sing clean it was perfection. Multi-instrumentalist as well. Very sad that he went so young, the last interview he did with The Cars shows just how ravaged his body was - hardly recognizable :(
I thought he was so handsome. Love the Cars...
Drive ,what a beautiful tune I was a young teenager when this came out . Great tune ! Thanks Lamont ☺️
Same here! 15 in 1978.
The Cars wrote lots of great songs. Ben was stunningly handsome. Terribly sad he died so young.
Benjamin Orr - Benny eleven letters. Understated with immense talent
Beautiful graveyard
Those aren't his parents buried next to him. It's his half-brother and half-brother's wife. His mom and dad were previously married to other people and each had children from those marriages. Those kids were roughly 20+ years older than Ben. His mom and dad are buried in a cemetery in Brooklyn, OH (Cleveland area).
I remember seeing them live back in 1984 at an outdoor venue in Harrisburg, PA. One of the best concerts I've ever experienced. RIP, Ben!
Benjamin Orr was very handsome! The Cars were around in my era. Great band.
Only people who are music morons do not know The Cars. They are music legends.
I can't disagree with you.
Such a humble grave for such a talented & loved musician. It's almost a little sad. But at least he's with his parents. My first 8 track tape was their first album, "The Cars". So mind-blowing, I rushed out & bought, "Candy O". Still listen to both of these albums today & they're so good & unique that I never get bored listening. Easily Top 10 desert island survival stuff :)
He's buried next to his half-brother and wife, not parents.
I use to have their poster on my wall starting in 80, until I moved in 92. I loved Benjamin!!! ❤️🔥
Best singer of The Cars and would have been the best writer if Rick had ever let him write for the band.
He did say in an interview that lyrics were not his strong point.
If ever there was a total package of what a rock musician should be, Benjamin Orr would be right up there. He had the look and the musical skill both in playing ability and vocals. He is still missed and yes, his music both with The Cars and his solo music will always live on. RIP.
I don't mind you coming here and wasting all my time cuz when you're standing oh so near I kind of lose my mind yeah it's not the perfume that you wear it's not the ribbons in your hair and I don't mind you coming here wasting all my time I guess you're just what I needed!!!! Man their songs bring back so many good memories may he rock Rock in peace🤘😔👉🍻
I ❤. Benjamin Orr 🌹🙏
RIP ⭐🕶️🎸
Beautiful MAN 💪🎸👊🇺🇸
I live about 20 minutes away from Thompson. The fact that Benjamin Orr is buried there is not widely known in the area. I just happened to browse google maps in that area and saw the gravestone somebody posted. The Cars were huge in the 80s when I was in middle and high school. Thanks for posting the video. I'll drive over there sometime and see the place for myself.
Graveyard kareoke with Lamont! 🤩 The Cars were great. Cancer sucks 😔 Thanks for taking us here, hope your trailer gets fixed soon. RIP Benjamin 💓🌄💐🕊️🌈🎼🎵🎶
Saw them in concert in the 80's. My fave song has always been Moving in Stereo/All Mixed Up. Rest in Peace Rick O'Casik also. If their is a Rock N Roll heaven they've got one HELL of a band.
To the man who died in Iraq thank u for ur service x
The Cars were amazing and a huge part of the late 70s to mid 80s music scene. They had some very cool videos on MTV back then, including Drive, which Ben sang lead on. ❤
Oh My God. Back in the early eighties. I remember being in the old Oldsmobile, with the Schlitz cans scattered around the floor, the ashtray full off sniped out cigarettes & the half broken cases of cassette tapes on the dashboard. It was always Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, AC/DC's Highway To Hell, Slade's Smashes & of course, Candy-O. That Let's Go song really brings me back. Hats off to all of The Cars.
Thanks for doing this one Lamont. Benjamin just had THAT voice. And he was so gorgeous. I was always amazed at his courage and strength to get on stage when he was so sick. Miss you Benjamin.
I loved their song Drive. That came into the UK charts in 1984. I didn't even know Ben had passed away 😢 RIP Ben xxxx
I remember the cars Lamont. Very sad that he passed, may Ben rest in peace 🙏. 👊👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
THE CARS ..ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS ..RIP ...MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY 👪🙏😢💔
Thanks for sharing Lamont. He was very talented. Ric Ocasek wrote a song for him after his passing called "Silver"..
I graduated in 77 and I did vocals in a band called Cliques. Candy O, by the cars was one of my favorite albums to pull songs off of to sing. Coundnt ever get into bands like Devo.
Luv the cars
Love to hear 🎶 Lamont. You are so soulful.
Raise your hand for a Cars reunion with Lamont on vocals! 😁
From Fred Sanford??!!
Thank you for the video. I'm a Cars fan and Ben had a beautiful voice n soul. RIP Ben and Ric. Drive 🚗 was one of my favorite songs he sung.
I died when you started singing 😅 RIP to the cars artists
My favorite song by The Cars is "Drive". I loved listening to it while going on road trips. Benjamin's singing was perfect for that song. May he rest in peace.
I really liked the cars and grew up listening to their music. Orr had such a great voice
The Cars were a great band. They still get a ton of air play on classic rock stations. It was sad when the band broke up. Ric and Ben had a falling out. Right before Benjamin died they buried the hatchet. There's an interview on youtube that the band did together that was filmed a few months before his death. A year before Ric died, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Cars are awesome! 🎶🎶
"Bye Bye Love" sung by Orr is one of my all time favorite songs.
I love the cars. I always listen to their music when I was a teenager. So sad that benjamin orr passed away. He was an amazing guitarist

The Cars are one of my favorite pop or soft rock groups. And I liked Stay the Night by Benjamin Orr. Thanks Lamont! ❤️ Condolences to the family. 🕊️
Correction: Benjamin Orr is buried next to his half brother and sister in law…I believe his mother passed about a year after him…🙏🏽💖🎸🙏🏽💖🎸
About a twenty-five minute drive from my house: a quiet, peaceful, and very-fittingly humble resting place for a good man and a great musician from a great band!…
The Cars’ first album was one of my first favorite albums as a child when it was new. I’ve had it on vinyl, cassette, cd, and digital and I’ve had it with me pretty much at all times for over 40 years. It’s one of the few albums downloaded on this phone I’m typing on. Thank you for putting this up. Such a normal, peaceful resting place for someone so big in the world. RIP Benjamin
Check out the album Candy O. In the top ten rock albums ever recorded in my humble opinion. RIP Ben, and Rick too, you guys killed it! 🙏
Almost as good as the debut
Loved that album...the album cover was sweet too!
My favorite album to do mushrooms to

He was awesome in The Cars, but I love his song Stay the Night. One of my favorite 80s hits ❤
I've watched a few videos now and you were in Ohio and I was wondering if you would do a video of Benjamin Orr, he was a multi talented musician and awesome singer, thanks Lamont. Rest in peace Ben you left us all way too soon.
Ben was a great vocalist/bassist, I'm sure 'The Cars' music will play well over the years ahead. RIP Ben Orr.
Thank you for showing this video. I’m a huge cars fan. I have everything they ever put out. And yes I am old. I’m 72 years old. Great video.
I love The Cars, Rest In Peace Benjamin... it's so kind all these later, how many still remember and visit his grave. So nice to see... Stay safe...
Really beautiful graveyard and the gentleman who was the veteran has a beautiful grave too.
Pancreatic cancer is the worst!
My mother passed from this terrible disease nine months ago.
It was devastating watching her deteriorate and there was nothing I could do to help her. She suffered so badly in the end. It was heartbreaking!
I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you, losing a parent is so devastaing. I lost my mom in January and i miss her so very much, as well as my dad who passed 2 years ago. Pancreatic cancer is absolutely the worst and sadly, by the time it is diagnosed it is already stage 4. I have lost 2 family members to pancreatic cancer and a close friend of mine lost her mom to pancreatic cancer. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
@@kittensanddaisies5615 Thank you. She lived three and a half years. The only sign she showed before diagnosis was weight loss. She went in for gallbladder surgery and discovered the tumor. That was 2018. She moved in with me that year and I took care of her till she passed. My sister helped but the majority of her care was on me.
She was still going strong until 2021.
She stopped chemo that Summer and her health rapidly deteriorated.
Her kidneys started to fail which caused fluid to build up she was bedridden and by December her pain levels were so bad no matter how much pain meds I gave her nothing would help. So she went to a hospice facility and and she was there one week till she passed. My sister and I never left her side. When one of us left the room the other was there. She was never alone. Lost her exactly one week before Christmas. 20 years prior I lost my Poppa to lung cancer the day before Thanksgiving & two days before my Mom's birthday. As you can imagine, November & December aren't my favorite months!
My sincere condolences on your losses. 🙏😔💔 My heart goes out to you.
@@MsWDWFAN1 thank you. I'm so sorry to hear that your mother suffered so much pain. I think it is wonderful that you took care of your mom after she was diagnosed. It's not easy being a full time caregiver but that's what we do for our loved ones. My sister and i took care of my mom after my dad passed. I understand how you feel about November and December. I feel the same way about January and February.
Hey hey Lamont shouting out to you from Texas .. Of course I know who the cars were.. loved them.. I knew all the songs.. ❤🎸
Thanks Ben for all the great tunes. You and Rick (The Cars) are one of the greats. R.I.P. to Rick also! 👍😎💥

That's crazy. I was just listening to The Cars this morning and playing guitar along with Drive.. Love them! Also has no idea he died in Atlanta. I live just outside of Atlanta. More musician graves please!!
Dude I’m so glad you went out to his grave. I did a video on it myself. I live in nearby Madison Ohio. Those folks buried next to him are his brother and sister in law. He was an ooppsy baby (midlife unexpected pregnancy). His siblings were much older than him. In fact a lady who lived on my street was his niece. And she was older than him. Benjamin grew up in the Cleveland area as did ric ocasek, although they are always considered a Boston area band. It’s a trip that a guy that was in as big a band as the cars Benjamin is buried out in the middle of bfe. You can sing all u want out there. Chances are nobody will hear you.lol. I know some people that met Benjamin. I guess he was a really great down to earth guy. Didn’t act like a big time rockstar. His solo album did pretty well. Had a song called stay the night which was on the charts in 1986. I believe he played bass and sang many of their hits.
Oopsie baby, you say? How little you know...
Ben's father and first wife raised an entire family--then they divorced, and he then married his second wife. Ben was born as an only child and raised not far from his father's first family, but he didn't know about them until he was an adult. He grew close to his step-brother, and that's why he's buried next to him. No "oops" baby. His father was ashamed of what he had done.
@@debkski6084 What exactly was his father ashamed of? I’ve read on the website Find a Grave that Ben’s mother was also married before. You can read the license. Betty Benn (his mother) married Albert Matus in November,1928 at the age of 16. She gave birth to a daughter in April,1929, so it appears that his mother had to get married. She had a daughter and a son who were Ben’s half siblings also.He never met either one of them. I find the whole thing sad and strange.
Awesome video Lamont ! I grew up with The Cars in the 80's. My favorites were "Drive", "You might think" and "Magic". The Cars were an awesome group. I lost my father on September 13th 2009 from pancreatic cancer. He was only 70 years old (would be 83 today). May God bless Benjamin Orr and may he rest in peace 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
Before you started singing, I knew which song! I loved them, they were brilliant and I believe hit number 1 in 🇬🇧 charts for a while. And Lamont, you're not old. I'm 60, so when you get to that age you're allowed to have "blonde moments, tropical moments and CRAFT moments (can't remember a f@#£&*g thing". Blessings from London UK xx
Benjamin was the sweetest man I ever met in my whole life . His parents are not next to him They are buried in Cleveland at St. THEODOCIUS cemetary Benjamins mother was named Betty, and his father was Charles Benjamin spoke Russian and Polish, as both of his parents were I migrants and we're members of the Russian Orthodox church He got a dispensation from the army because while he had siblings that both his parents had from other relationships, he was their only child together.
The most curious thing he said to me was "in twenty years, you won't even remember me." It is amazing to me that so little of his actual history on the internet is correct . He was fiercely private and very much a gentleman.
He loved his mother's Christmas bread that she made for him as a little boy, and chicken was a favorite food. He was generous with both his time and money. He was a very classy, stand when a lady enters the room kind of man.
I will never forget the first man in my life that ever was really interested in what I wanted out of it. I miss him to this day. He called me his sweet beautiful Betty. When I visit this place, I bring a red rose for him in honor of the one he presented to me . I loved that man, more than anyone will ever know or understand . How could I ever forget?
Thank you so much for sharing your story about the connection you had with Benjamin. From all accounts that I have read, he really was a great guy to know and to be around. I wish I could have met him in person and shared with him just how much I enjoyed his music.
Replying to bettywood So did you meet him before Judith and Edita? What lovely memories.

Obviously we all know about The Cars and how great they were but his only solo album The Lace is so good, really surprised it wasn’t a bigger success
The Cars were one of my faves and “Drive” was my favorite song of theirs.

I love the Cars! Thank you for honoring Benjamin Orr. I seen them in concert back in the day and they sounded great. One of my favorite bands.
Ben’s best vocal was on Moving In Stereo. My most favorite Cars song ever!!! Thank you, Lamont!
Such a legendary talent taken too soon by pancreatic cancer. You still live on in your music 🎼 and will continue to live on through eternity. RIP Benjamin.
One of my All time favorite bands right from the beginning album The Cars in 1978 Sad Ben & Ric are gone may they Rest In Peace ☮️
Unique and beautiful stones. Thank you for doing this story. So many people who made music and sang songs I liked while growing up, have died so young.
Hard to believe in a few days, he will have been dead 22 years. Mind blowing.
YR. It just doesn't seem possible. Breaks my heart every time I think of him. Love the Cars. Sad that Rick is gone, too. This band is part of a special memory of mine. I just hate it so much that Ben died much too soon. ♥️
Awesome!!! He died so fast, so young poor guy
We visited his grave back in August. Nice video
Thanks for posting. I loved The Cars. Benjamin Orr was a talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. I know of at least one television performance where he did in fact play keys. I believe it was one of their performances on the television show, Friday's. My favorite Ben vocal is on Let's Go but All Mixed Up is a close second. Having lost my grandmother to pancreatic cancer as a teenager, I know exactly how devastating it is and how quickly it can take a life. RIP Ben and Ric.
What a beautiful rural resting place . Thanks for sharing this. I'm reading Ben's Biography right now. It's a good book about Ben and many others involved in his musical career. 🙏 RIP
I'm Benjamin Orr's fan... I miss him... Thanks for video, Lamont... Kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you for posting. Not too far from where I live. If I ever get over there I would go. RIP Ben. You are missed.
Hi 🙋🏿♀️ RIP Mr. Orr 🪦🕊️
Great job with this video....I am a huge Benjamin Orr fan. His work with The Cars was great.....his solo album "The Lace" was great as well. "Stay The Night" was a big solo hit for him off of that album....the whole album is superb. It should have been more commercially successful than it was. I really encourage everyone to check out "The Lace." My favorite song off of it is "Skyline."- A masterpiece.
Thanks, Lamont....I really appreciate your work.
While Rik Ocasik got more attention, and wrote many of the Cars' songs, Benjamin Orr sang lead on most of the Cars' hits: including "Drive" and "Your Just What I Needed"... {The two Lamont sang bits of.} Benjamin had a very emotive, great and flexible voice. Plus, he played bass quite well. And while the Cars were associated with Boston, neither Rik nor Benjamin originally came from there.
Wow thx for video Lamont.
I had forgotten it was from cancer.
Very talented. Seen them in the 70's in New Orleans. He was incredible! I still have a cassette😂 BTW keep your day job k?
