  • I've recently returned to Star Wars Galaxies with the SWG Legends emulator. This is the best experience I've had playing SWG since the game officially shut down in 2011.
SWG Legends is an NGE (New Game Experience) Emulator and reproduces the game as it was when Star Wars Galaxies closed. But it does A LOT more than that. With an active development team adding new features, specialised customisation options, and even new music, this emu doesn't just emulate - it evolves the game in exciting new ways!
Thanks for watching! If you're interested in learning more about SWG Legends I did a video all about it here • What Is Star Wars Gala...

I was playing battlefront with my two cousins as I found out about this through one of them who was already familiar with it, he's like 4 older or so. I was too young though and couldn't really imagine a game world of this complexity at the time. having a functioning economy inside of a game seemed ludacris to me.

Henrik Persson no, it’s very easy to get into! (Unless you do swg emu which is superrr complicated and kinda boring). Very active as well. You just go to the swglegends website and download it there, however you need the original game files. So you either buy a used copy off eBay, or the smart way there’s a torrent for it on the reddit.

Yes and no. Private servers, even if they cause the population to split a bit, will be useful in the future, because certain mechanics being promoted and tested by these are actually great gameplay and QoL improvements that could be carried over to SWGEmu post 1.0 release, which would keep the game experience fresh (this being said while still considering SWG a fresh game, compared to many other options the industry has to offer in 2019 that still can't catch up to what a 16 y/o game did).

Hey, just wanted to comment and say that your video got me to not only come back to SWG, but to give the NGE a try. I was one of those people who quit before the Combat Upgrade, right around when the Jedi Village was in full swing. My brother and I were exasperated at the lack of good content and bugs the game had; and the fact that certain professions, like carbineer or half of pistoleer just simply didn't work. When we came back after hearing about the NGE, we saw how terrible the combat had become and the fact that Jedi, a class we really strive for, now was available to everyone. That turned us off so much from SWG that I never got to try it in "it's best form". I had no idea that not only someone spent the time restoring SWG, but that there's active new development with new planets; and fixes to the combat to make it less awful! Thank you for making this video, I'm sharing it among my friends.

Great video matey, we've both got a lot of history with Galaxies, it's great to see the game continues to be improved and developed by fans so new generations can experience the joys. I don't think there any other game out there quite like it. Just being able to run from Mos Eisley to Ancorhead, or get terrified by wandering Gorax on Endor. JTL was good fun too, more game could learn a lot about running both space and ground content from Galaxies. I definitely don't think there will ever be another Star Wars game like it, especially not in the days of Disney's and EA's approach to the franchise.
Since the content is driven by the community, why don't you join a guild that runs active events akin to the old days with Aartan Ridge? Would be interesting to see some videos on what people came up with with the improvements that have been implemented.
I don't think I'll ever really have the same drive to play Galaxies that I used to, I've stopped playing any and all online multiplayer games in favour of single player and local co-op games I can play with my kids, so it's unlikely I'll ever pick this up again, although if fans keep it going there nothing to say I wont give it a shot with my kids some day! Still have a ton of fond memories, got a folder full of screenshots and word documents to remind me of the good old days!

      @napyet  Před 5 lety

Yeah, I'm reluctant with online these days too (certainly to the level of involvement and activity we used to!) But this game is so good I would play it single player. Just the amount of stuff you can do is immense. Online adds an economy and people which enhances things but really it's just the roleplaying of a character in the Star Wars universe that I love. Online or offline I would play a game that has this many options for deep gameplay.

Well one thing actually is bothering me, u said SWG is from 2005 but it started in end of 1999, i know that because i checked back in the day how to get it, as it was said it would start 6 month later in my country so i chose a US server to play on which was funny as back then i was sitting infront of my Computer with a Dictionary next to me to be able to talk to all the ppl. What i loved about it was the possibilities and that the character developed without gaining more life as i always thought, that it is strange that a character get more health by leveling up I played a Twi Lek with 750 points of Health and that was ok, the rest u made with armor and skills and the knowledge on how to use them.
Took me 3 years to set my Jedi Skills free and the best fight i ever had took 8 hours, he got my bounty as a mission and while i didnt have had any buffs running he was in the beginning fully buffed and had his backpack full with medical buffs and health packs, it was great in the end we called it a draw and he kept my mission for a while while i payed him the credits.
Then came the Combat Upgrade new players was able to choose to be Jedi from the start and the combat system was completly f-ed up so many ppl left the Game because of it. It just wasnt the same no more.
But if this is Pre CU i might give it a try again maybe i even find some of the old Crew again.

I dream of a SWG with the free class system of pre-CU, the balance of CU and the content of NGE.
Or something along those lines, I never got to experience SWG before it was too late, I was too young and had too small of an allowance when the game was around.
But the idea of not being forced into a class and being able to freely devote my character to skills I personally choose, no matter how weird or specific, with some power balance and lots of content. It's my most autistic dream game ever, and I so desperately want it to come true in my most favorite franchise ever which is Star Wars.
I'm right now attempting to play Restoration III which is CU with NGE content but still free class, but so far it has too many seams showing, too obvious a Frankenstein project still..

I love the game how it is today. They took it how it was when it shut down and just added to it, along with what we already/knew had. I would not expect it to change. This is what makes it great, we have what we used to have and it brings back so many memories. Sure, I didn't get back all the stuff I used to have or characters I used to have and had to start over. But that's ok! I have my game back and I can live stream (just like you are doing) with better tools today than what we had available then!

I played swtor since beta. The only thing that is worth playing swtor is the story and that's it. I still remember the hype and how the dev's promised that it would be the best star wars gaming experience ever. What they deliver? A game on rails. Everything from the moment you start the game until the end game it's holding your hand. Crafting system while it wasn't the most complex it has potential, now it's the most useless thing in the game. Are you want to talk about exploration? Instead of making the mechanic's to support the exploration aspect of the game they just make 90% of the quests as exploration missions. And I can go on and on. The game is more like a single player right now than a mmorpg and that's a shame for the times and my energy defending this fucking game. I stop playing swtor 2 years ago and resendly I wanted to starting playing again but considering what I have said above and a lot more issues I have with swtor I couldn't get back to it. I started playing swg legends recently. I never had the chance playing it when it was live but man even in the first hour playing swg I couldn't believe that they kill this game so they can give us the disappointment of swtor

I'm with you... I'm getting tired of FPS' and the like and am ready to settle into an active MMO, and feel like Galaxies is the place to go. I have been playing the Emu for nearly a month now but am getting a bit bored with it now that the honeymoon phase is over (and getting a general idea of everything it has to offer); might have to give Legends a try next, but EA truly needs to remake this with cross-play between PC and consoles... SWTOR has just about lived the life that Galaxies had.
Funnily enough, one of the things that is beginning to peeve me about the Emu (aside from the monotony of missions) is having to get buffed every time I hop on and everyone wearing the same composite armor; I appreciate it's a way of making entertainers/docs viable, but you have to question what the point even is when it's just player bots anyway, and the concept in general is tedious. I had a few couple amazing adventures and instances within my first couple days of playing the game, but now it's starting to wear thin.
Let me ask this... what's the point of entertainers in the NGE?

Firstly, Galaxies was a great game. No doubt it still is rebuilt now. But your comments about swtor? Your out of touch with reality. Swtor was never meant to be a sandbox, it was a MMO/RPG hybrid. But if it was as bad as you say, they wouldn't still be making content for it. Some more respect for swtor lovers please. Just as big a part of star wars as galaxies now.

Well I play swtor since the start and i love the game but i have a lot of issues with it. And my biggest problem is how easy they make it. SWTOR it's so easy right now that basically is making the crafting system for example so useless. The only thing that is worth now is the story. Sorry my opinion.

I would really love to get back into SWG ... but the whole thing seems bittersweet. i spent years in that game (probably in-game time as well). Some of my fondest gaming memories are from there. From the community that was in the game, the guilds, player run towns, the entire economy... I never minded the doc buffs and the armor and hunting for that elusive 50 times sliced rifle that you paid a million for. The CU broke the entire thing and the NGE drove the core away entirely. Nobody asked for those changes, they weren't needed. All they had to do is hone what was already in there and add content. JTL was amazing though, i will give them that.
I miss SWG a lot, but i don't see myself ever going back, as much as i would like to.

I used to play this game back in 2008 (SWG: Complete Online Adventures) , and despite i was being told by the game's veterans ,that the game was even better before the NGE(new Game Enhancements) , i still think it was the greatest MMO i ever seen/played !!!
That's why i've said in the past that :
1)I'll never forgive Lucas for their tragic decision NOT to support 2 StarWars MMO games simultaneously , thus , deciding to end support of StarWars: Galaxies in favour of the upcoming SW: The Old Republic.
2)I'll never forgive Bioware , who , despite that in order for their own MMO to be promoted , our beloved SW:Galaxies was cancelled , they created this "joke" of an MMO , which was *lightyears(StarWars term)inferior* to the Star Wars : Galaxies !! .
Especially the space missions in Bioware's game was like i had travelled back to time and returned to a 1990's *simplistic* arcade space-game.
And to summarize , just like you said(04:30) , they created a garbage of a game when compared to SW:Galaxies !!
After the end of SW:Galaxies and the disappointment of SW:TOR , i never played an MMO again.
*What an unfair end ,for such a massive & perfect game like the Star Wars : Galaxies*

You can't really blame SWTOR for their lack of race options. They would have to mould a lot of the armor to fit over the different geometries of the individual races and it would take forever to do that. Compare it to SWG where wookiees didn't have armor for ages and they didn't release it until months after the game launched. SWG has a very small fraction of armor in comparison to SWTOR because it was designed to be a WoW clone which focused on story.
