  • Just when we thought games couldn't get anymore addictive, Rogue Tower comes along and combines the addictive and fun nature of a roguelite with a tower defense style gameplay. The result is a hugely replayable game that's just missing a fast forward button! This is part 4 where I discover the incredibly overpowered shredder towers!

    One thing I've learned that might help, don't buy a tower if you don't plan on using much/for a while. When you do, you introduce the upgrade cards for it into the stack of upgrades you might get per round which means less of a chance of getting cards you might want for towers that you are using.

      @MisogynyMan Před 2 lety +1

      I can't figure out if its best to unlock a lot of towers so you can buy them cheap, or if its best to specialize for more powerful (and expensive) towers.
      Usually end up with 3 maybe 4 different towers that I upgrade and choose cards for as much as possible.

I've been doing the ballista only and ballista + 1 achievements and the trick is really not unlocking useless things like haunted house, and generally ballista are op and other towers upgrades aren't great. You in fact want to unlock no trees til you get ballista armour damage I & II, and then get longbow whenever it appears.
      The other approach is full diversity but tower upgrades are rarely worth it. With mana towers the sorcery tree is vital, with condition builds the condition upgrades replace specific tower upgrades. Quite a few approaches work, so long as you limit your card pool.

      @mrstatue.a3087 Před 2 lety +50

      Jumping on here as well, if you have really expensive towers like the obelisk that use a LOT of mana, you probably wnat to get your slow from ballistas (upgrade their health damage to unlock their slow) or poison damage (which eventually slows based on poison). If your using a shredder which hits that many enemies, upgrading shield and armour damage to unlock poison and fire on them would be really good. If that poison also slows then you get a lot of value out of that tower. Also ballista slow eventually turns into 3% chance of freeze which, if you have a massive choke point with lots of ballistas, actually triggers A LOT.

    So something that you may want to consider when picking upgrades, is that once you pick one, you add all of the subsequent upgrades to the pool as well. Example: you buy the mortar tower, and you now have the chance of seeing the +1 health, armor, and shield upgrades. The reason that I bring this up, is because when you buy a large variety of towers early on (like you did in this video), you make it less likely that you will be able to upgrade any of them far enough to unlock their most powerful upgrades.
    I find it more effective to purchase one or two towers that fill niches, and I focus on upgrading them until I get to a point where I need to further diversify.

    Here's some tips :3:
    Obelisk
    Pros- Amazing at dealing damage to enemies with high HP pool.
    Cons- Very mana hungry, sucks at clean up.
    Radar
    Pros- Amazing with slow, high HP enemies (especially the oogies) great for thinning out massive crowds
    Cons- Not very reliable early game as it often miss on small enemies.
    Particle cannon
    Pros- Great single target dmg
    Cons- Pretty much got power crept by Radar and mortars
    Frost Keep
    Pros- Amazing for stalling enemies
    Cons- Very RNG reliant as the frost flakes need to hit the enemies to be slowed (can be bypassed by purring 2-3 frost keeps)
    Poison and Flame throwers
    Pros- Great AoE dmg
    Cons- reliant on long maps for the DoT to take effect
    Encampment
    Pros- Great for catching those "Le missiles" and the purple babies and for catching any leaks.
    Cons- Pretty weak on split maps and on short maps
    Shredder
    Pros- Amazing AoE
    Cons- Lacks single target dmg
    Lookout
    Pros- Amazing with obelisk
    Cons- not really good outside of obelisk support
    Tesla
    Pros- Great AoE, very cheap and reliable
    Cons- falls of late game
    Mortars
    Pros- Amazing AoE especially with frostkeep sprayers combo
    Cons- slow fire rate
    Balista
    Pros- good?? Early game
    Cons- everything, it's just straight up bad tbh :((.

      it's got a lot of base damage even if its stats for armor/shield are low has a fast attack and the base damage adds a lot to the multipliers for each stat, with good priorities you can easily get them to knock out small groups of enemies or take out some of the tougher ones like bosses very quickly. Just large groups or enemies that spawn more are their weakpoints.

    A few main pointers to anyone trying the game:
    DOT towers and upgraded DOT can do massive damage, setting a few at each entrance to the map/portal means as soon as things spawn they take damage until they reach the main choke point
    Frost towers or slow in general can keep enemies held nearly in place, allowing DOT more time to work and for any AOE tower like flamethrower or poisonsprayer to hit stacks of enemies and continue to apply even more DOT
    Don't take so many tower cards to start, the more towers you have the more upgrade cards flood the unlocks after each level
    Instead of getting a tier one damage boost for each tower, prioritizing taking the same one means that one tower gets a bigger boost, leading up to a high crit bonus and every tower getting a tier one bonus anyway
    Spamming towers in the late game isn't beneficial except in rare cases, upgrading existing ones boosts both their multiplier amount and their base damage
    A rare case for the above mentioned tip is surprisingly ballistas, as long as the upgrade "Ballistas slow enemies for 5% of the damage they deal" is unlocked
    Early game banditry is your friend, you can place down your towers sooner and get a choke point set up early. Any damage taken can be healed during the rest of the game

    A couple of tips:
    1) defense in depth; a) let your defenses closest to the tower level up some before you start placing forward defenses, b) you use less defenses if you focus on choke points until much later, c) in order to not overwhelm your choke points, make sure to have various lengths of paths such that mobs get to the choke points at different times, d) add forward defenses to separate paths much later in the map in order to soften targets before they get to your main choke point (by the end of the map, you will need a primary choke point, several other backup choke points, and some softening defenses;
    2) use radars (set to health priority) and particle cannons (set to shield priority) at high elevation in the middle of the map for oggies;
    3) you need over a 1k mana to maintain several obelisks late game, sometimes as much as 2.5k if unlucky on cards and using 4-5 obelisks;
    4) if you can get past level 40, you are likely going to get to 45 (39 and 40 are rough ramp ups);
    5) targets take damage in this order: shield, armor, health (put your defenses in that order on the path taking into account the defense's range).
    6) tesla's and slow towers (set to fastest priority) have very limited range, make sure to place them higher spots and corners for maximum AE.
    7) outposts add damage (done by any other defense) to whatever they target, use them in late game especially at choke points and closest to the tower.

    Hey RCE! Congrats on 1M subs! Been watching since you were around ~75k, and you've introduced a ton of games to me like Timberborn and Super Auto Pets which i love! Some tips tho for Rogue Tower. You can also use the 1-3 number keys to upgrade towers quickly. Health is 1, Armor is 2, and shields is 3. Its best to focus a towers initial strongest damage multiplier, but keeping everything as balanced as possible is also good, as any upgrade increases a towers base damage. You want your towers to ideally be leveled up to 1/2 or 1/3(if you have a lot of towers) of the current level you are on. And for the poison tower and flame thrower, is best to put them at a spot where they are attacking down a straight path, both towers are slow turning so if you can get them focusing on enemies that have passed by is best for them, so placing them early in your defense is a good strategy. A lot of good tips in the comments but these were some that weren't posted as much as others. Cheers on 1M subs again! you deserve it!

    The purple tentacle floaty thing is spawning those small monsters with shields on death. It is not shield damage that you need, it is more health damage since you will be able to kill the spawners earlier (they don't have shield or armor) and thus more towers will be able to shoot the spawned mobs and clear them out.

  • @MrMattkid
    @MrMattkid Před 2 lety

    Some more helpful advice is to position towers in a particular pattern for damage types. So for towers that are good against shields and do poison damage you want as your vanguard of your killing zone. Towers good against armor and do burn damage should be in the main section of your killing zone. Finally towers good against health and with bleed damage should be at the rear. You can also include shredders in with you vanguard to eliminate the weaker enemies early on so your main forces have an easier time focusing down the larger enemies.
    A little bit of extra advice is to use plenty of AOE in your vanguard. The more AOE in the front the less enemies that will reach your main forces. Good luck, hope this helps you in the future.

    There are enemies that constantly heal themselves, so you have to have out damage their healing. The dot effects are effective at this, but you need 2-3 of them to beat their healing (depending on upgrades). You can upgrade a dot type to deal extra damage on crits then you can reduce it to a single type but make sure you actually have a way to deal crits. I assume you can have enough damage on towers to kill them without dot as well on towers like the obelisk.

    Look into a combo of poison, flame, ice, and airplanes. The gas towers don't require as much mana to operate. Upgrade balliatas so they at least do bleed damage, adding in flame, poison, and slow to the balliatas is also good, which allows you to upgrade their range.
    Setup your airplanes to focus on different highest elements. The default is furthest point, so they were concentrating fire at the front instead of on groups. Also upgrade damage types for your airplanes.
    Layout still matters and it's hard to be an unforgiving layout. Late game paths that run next to the early path are wonderful to keep many of the towers levels up
    Don't forget to keep improving level of your earliest placed ballistas. Personally I try to replace my starting ballistas around the houses around the castle with radar stations since balliatas don't seem to shoot through the tower.
    I haven't found the mines or blades to be very useful and focusing upgrades on the towers I do use helps make them better.
    I do wish there was an endless mode for this game. Although if you're unfortunate enough to have all the paths terminate early, it will run up the levels automatically so you have to quickly choose the next card while enemies are coming through. It's pretty fun. That's when banks really matter.

    Fun fact, I used Tesla tower to destroy the high armor and shield enemies by upgrading it since it was in a circle path which means I get to kill them before they can reach to my other towers.
    Also it was only one tesla with fire and poison and slowness when hit to the enemies.

    the 8 million damage figure is your total for damage over time, i.e. bleed, burn, and poison. cranking the speed up on those is actually a fantastic strategy, imo.

    Heres a tip : frost keep towers slow effect actually stacks, so having 2 slows more than 1. However I do believe there is a hard cap, not sure how many towers you need to reach it though.

    • @thekwoka4707
      @thekwoka4707 Před 2 lety

      But that cap can also be increased with cards, a d eve tuakly frost keep gets freezing, which stops the unit entirely.

  • @macfeilmeier3230
    @macfeilmeier3230 Před 2 lety

    Btw, a good rule of thumb:
    Tesla tower consumes 3 mana/s
    Particle cannon consumes 2.6 mana/s
    obelisks consume 12 mana/s
    So make sure you budget your mana for the towers firing at the same time.
    Also, for the towers that are good against armor, if they're set to attack most armored, they will also attack shielded units with the most armor. If you set them to least shield/most armor, they will deal more dps.

    The mortars don't seem to always hit their target, which is bad because those seem to be the only armor killers you had before the enemies reached your death lane. By that time they started launching their missiles and whatnot. I think that putting an obelisk or 2 somewhere near your shield destroying obelisk would have minimized the amount of those armored enemies getting close enough to cause any problems. Then your back line would just have to deal with some straggling rockets.

    I found it useful to have a couple radars or particle cannons targeting least health once the rocket guys started turning up. Otherwise all the towers keep shooting the rockets and leaving the rocket guys on a tiny amount of health where they could keep shooting!
    Oh and don't leave radars targeting progress! That's why they were just hanging out in one place - 'Most health' seems good for them to make sure they actually do some hits on attack runs.

    Your Radar towers were focusing at the bottom of the map because you had their targeting on Progress. You should set them to Most Health usually.

    If you want to place multiple items like a "mana siphon" for example, just hold shift while placing each one. Super helpful quality of life thing. Also, don't be afraid to place multiple Frost Keeps. They melt everyone once they're upgraded a bit and work great in groups of 2's or 3's.

    Be careful taking shields/armor out early. Some enemies especially late game can regenerate armor and shields so if you don't do sufficient damage then they can regenerate before getting to the true damage zones. The only tower that I find is good at hitting enemies far away is the Biplane since it does so much damage and has such great range. A couple of biplanes targeting most health can wipe out the bosses before they even get to the main damage zones.

  • @bamarshmallow1

    Radars and particle cannons are completely op. If your able to get them down before round 4-5 by the time the zombie oogie shows up just have thm focus on armor and they will rip him to peices. btw, Radars do the most damage against health and theyre still highly effective against armor.

    I'd found the best way to deal with the missiles is a pure string of landmines going from the tower out as far as you can - if you can upgrade the encampments to focus on shields they can absorb a lot. Also - Radar is the OP go to, if you set the priorities to always focus on the biggest bads using all 3 ranked priorities.

    You can manipulate which tiles you get a bit.
    Two tiles can never run into each other. So if you build one alongside the other you can guarantee the first path goes where you want or even terminates where you want. It is almost necessary to do on the harder difficulties.

      You gotta plan ahead of the enemies coming your way.
      After 35 there is no reason to invest into more armor damage anymore you should be able to handle that one then, switch to shields.
      You need to kill all spawner units before they make it through your choke points.
      So set some tower priorities to target those enemies, (highest health + slowest, near death + slowest on some towers to finish off is handy here) especially the portals that later come and spawn other spawners.
      The mass of enemies is the hard part about the game, bosses are not an issue at all when you are able to handle the spawners you are able to handle the bosses, so they are more like bonus upgrade rounds.
      To get a better hang of it try going for the only ballista runs, it teaches well how to deal with different enemies.
