You could disguise the mini 2 as my mate - Mike - he always scares the birds away in the pub 😂😂😂😂
Ha ha ha that made me laugh out loud! 🤣
Hey wait, you do mean ME do you? 😳🤣
@@GetBusyLiving no - I’ve a mate called Mike in the Uk 😂😂😂
@@MrHitman1966 I was just checking as I used to have a similar effect 😆
@@GetBusyLiving lol so did I - I could do a “Moses parting the Red Sea” - must have been my aftershave 😂😂😂
" They look scary to me!"
Priceless! I'm still laughing!
Look forward to all of your videos Mike! Great job on this one!
Hi BrockKane, hey thanks mate I really appreciate that! 😊🙏
Awesome video Mike! Haha those seagulls have you marked man, they were there in a second! But can’t say the duck didn’t warn ya! Hey cheers for the shout out but you owned this one mate, that was really fun… stickers haha for a moment I thought it might work… there seems to be that one seagull in the pack causing all the issues, if like that one had a mystery accident, you’d be away laughing again… boss hand launch also by the way, quick like an afterthought… cheers again and have a good one!
Yeah 100% mate, I should've listened to that duck! Ha ha thanks Corey I appreciate that mate and thanks for the idea though! I know right - stickers - who would've thought that wouldn't work!? 🤣 Yeah I'm actually loving the hand launch method, I use it 99% of the time now! Thanks mate - have a good one!
I like the stickers lol
I always hated seagulls, they seem to be very confronting when it comes to the drone
They sure are! Very aggressive birds!
My mate,s Drone Skin is Fluorescent Orange, It's like Kryptonite to birds !
Oh really, so that's been working??
I have heard from one of the drone groups to put reflective stickers ( Red n white) these are stickers that are use for road warning signs. I am going to try it out for my mini 3 pro and update you
Thanks I will try anything ha ha
What is your update?
I'm in New Zealand as well, lower north island area! And Seagulls are definitely annoying af! Every time I decide to take my drone out they come out from every direction and go for the drone! Makes it impossible to relax to try get some nice shots of whatever when you got them to worry about, in sport mode they cant catch my Mini 3 Pro, but if I'm always on the run from them cant exactly do any proper filming.
I agree mate, they are a real pain. People say leave the birds alone but in many cases I've flown where there weren't any, but they decide to come over and bother ME ha ha .
Privately I own Mini 2 as well so I watch your vids carefully. But at work I fly Air 2 and most of the times I am followed by a bunch of swallows. They seem to be quite friendly as they simply circle around the drone, keeping some distance. At first I thought I'm interrupting their air space so I moved away good 100 m. Nope, they followed me. Now I just treat them as my wing mates. It's quite nice to see drone accompanied by swallows circling around. Still, I pay attention to my wing mates, move slowly so both parties may have pleasent flight experience.
Hey that's kind of cool that they hang out with you! Yes I agree, when ever I have birds around the drone, I am very careful to move slowly, I wouldn't want to move up when they are moving down and collide and hurt them!
The birds are up there saying MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE
Ha ha yeah probably mate!
As soon as I saw your "scary" stickers I thought "Nope. If anything I'll bet it attracts them!" & it appeared I was correct. They're perceiving it as a potential threat & those eyes & that giant beak amplifies it. They really sounded alarmed when they saw it as I'm sure that whatever they thought it was before wasn't as threatening to them as this time. I'm surprised they didn't strike it. However, all flying things being equal (which they're not), the Mini 2 CAN do one thing better than almost any bird (with very few exceptions) & that is to fly straight up. While this can help to evade a level attack, it's a double edged sword as most birds will attack from above (they know their limitations too). Sorry if I don't offer better ideas but at least I understand the situation & what it can mean.
Yes mate i think you are correct! I think we might be fighting a losing battle here!
Seriously though - I fly over the sea and the gulls in Grimsby are so tough that they head butt concrete 😂 - I put florescent yellow wraps on the front and legs and they seem to leave it be - mind you it is a Mavic 2 - my mini 2 is un stickered at the moment and they haven’t had a go at it yet 🤞 great video
Thanks mate! I think I might be fighting a losing battle here!!
@@GetBusyLiving they do look like mean birds 😂😂
I fly a lot at Bempton/Flamborough on the East Coast in Yorkshire (UK) and the only bird i have ever had problems with is psycho Seagulls, that reside on the cliffs, no idea if its the noise or colors of the drone, but they leave the cliffs and fly up in attack mode as soon as i launch it.
Yeah they seem to take offence straight away and arrive from nowhere. Perhaps it’s the sound as they aren’t there when I launch but then turn up. It’s like a magnet!
I bet those eyes work GREAT against Cartoon birds..
Ha ha if I find any I will let you know! 🤣
I’ve had heaps of gull swoops working near the coast before but never had them get close enough to knock the drone (phantom 4). Pretty nerve racking but after about 15mins of swooping and squawking they normally got distracted with each other a flew off, try popping the drone up waiting a while and seeing what happens? It’s a pain in the arse for sure so I’ll be watching your channel for any top tips haha!
Yeah might try that - cheers mate!
We have Atico in Alicante which is 15 stories up. I can walk around the balcony and a pair of gulls will keep flying down at me and trying to bomb me with chemical warfare. So when I got a Mavic Air about 5 years ago, this pair which nested on the corrugated roof a few buildings away bought their mates. It does seem that one will be more upset that the rest, who just seem to fly around but don't bother coming close. They do loose interest. One thing I do know is they are not great parents. Just watch their two chicks scrambling over the uneven surface moving to try and find shade.
I put a cat face sticker on mine. Works great.
Ha ha great idea!
Try orange like mine 😂
But they are orange aren’t they?🧐
Cool idea,, fly it over a body of water to see if the birds can make it splash.
Seriously though, I have heard that if you put silver or reflective stickers or paint on it, it will make it look less like another bird, hopefully making it less threatening and more unnatural.
I have my doubts that this will work either, but it might be worth a try.
Hmmm yeah I've seen a couple of comments about reflective tape - might be worth a try!
I bought a mini SE this afternoon and as soon as I sent it up I had a group of swifts circling my new toy. An unexpected niggle.
Yeah they can be a bit of a pain.
Like you also seagulls (QLD AUS) but last time out i was mobbed by Magpies? nesting season? PITA.
Oh god! Magpies! Yeah I bet they can be nasty!
I got the ma2. And I've had 10 little birds chasing me around trying to dive bomb it. Lol. They think I'm a hawk. But now there kinda used to it. But I kinda worry about that. When there nesting is more likely to come at it
Yeah the nesting issue is real. What annoys me though is I launch the drone miles from anything and they then appear and hassle it!
We had birds attack our drone once and got it on video... it was a huge flock of some sort of shore bird and they were flying maneuvers around the drone as I was trying my best to get back home.... They never made contact with it but it was something to watch as they flew like the Blue Angels... I think I flew over their nests and wasn't welcome... next time I'll ring the doorbell and wait for an answer before I storm into their house... lol
Oh wow I’d love to see the video!
@@GetBusyLiving I’ll see if we can find it and figure out a way to get it to you. Are you on Instagram by any chance?
@@WeretheRoberts I am but it's a private account for family only - I did have another account but it was just too much work trying to juggle all the social media, youtube etc, maybe when i go full time with this gig 🤣
Haha totally understand that. Too many social media platforms nowadays.
Thats funny! I have the mini 2 but I also have the original mavic air. I have had I think they were like sparrows or something attack my mavic air! I would try to get away and the bird would fly in font of the sensor, and the drone would stop. So I had go high in sport mode to get away from them. I was over water so if they would of got a good hit, into the water it was going. I got away though!.
Ha ha wow - sounds like an adventure!!
You are over a nesting site which is owned/protected by the birds. It is a normal response by seagulls to circle in the air during perceived threat . anyone who can fly gets up in the air with the flock. They can’t see your stickers from below, and those stickers will not make them more comfortable about their young on the ground. The birds in the air are there to harass the perceived threat away from their area. What works though, is don’t fly there.
I didn't think seagulls nested in suburbia 🤨 Yes I think I'm fighting a losing battle in this area!
@@GetBusyLiving
I am surprised also. I have live in Anchorage for 60+ years, and only this year the gulls started nesting along a couple of large rock outcrops along the highway now that guard rails are in place for a few years. it’s like they study the amount of human activity to see if an area is feasible . recently in CA someone flew over a small island with a drone and it crashed there, 1700 tern eggs in nest were then abandoned .
@@randysmith6493 Oh dear, that's a real shame 😕
Fly higher than the gulls, this makes them think its a predator bird or fly in a different area altogether.
I will give that a go - thanks!
well it was worth a try mate i took the mavic mini up which is noisier than the mini 2 and they did sort of avoid it still got bloody close though brown trowsers time
Ha ha yep I know what you mean re the trousers 🤣
I watched some of your videos on the subject.
Did you get any solution?
Nope I think it's just a fact of life and does depend on the species of the bird I think. Some aren't bothered but some will actively come to my drone even though they weren't close when I started flying. Just pays to be vigilant I guess and respectful of the wildlife.
I have the same problem by the lake. They are really agressive and O don’t know what to do 😅
I think we might be fighting a losing battle here mate!
@@GetBusyLiving sadly yes. I don’t have a clue 🥲😅. That’s a problem here.
@@jean-chridrone6026 The search continues!
Well if your seagulls are anything like Aussie seagulls, as soon as you sit down at the beach with fish and chups they swam around you. So before you fly, go to your local fish and chips shop get a couple of $$ worth of chips, put them 100 or so yards away from where you are flying
Ha ha great tip! I love it! 😍 👍🤣
I had this recently with parrots. they buzzed far closer than these sea gulls.
Parrots!? Oh wow that sounds gnarly!
Try cable ties sticking up on top like they do with bike helmets against magpie s haha
🤨
Ha ha don't tempt me!!
I really don't like this video. Im a fellow drone pilot and I hope you dont take this the wrong way. I love flying my drone but I do it respectfully. Its very clear that the birds are threatned by your drone. They are aggitated. There could be many reasons. Maybe they have a nest nearby and just protecting their young, maybe its mating season and you are pissing them off. Either way, in my opinion, you need to be more respecful of them. If you get your drone up and get this outcome.......land the drone and move to another area. Its quite simple, you are in their house. Cheers and happy flying.
Done that bro, same issue! At times I have flown where there are clearly no birds, or nests, and they often just turn up. Many people experience this, it's not just me.
Have you ever tried reflective tape? I ´m gonna try.
I haven't - hey anything is worth a try! Let me know how you get on!
Birds are for the birds! They are always terrible.🐦🐤🐔🐥🐣
True that!
Ok this will solve the problem stick some raw hot chillies on the drone there fly around then they will sod of it really works 😁👍🇬🇧
Ha ha ok I will give that a try! maybe 😬
You should try green laser, that is bird repellant
Thanks for the tip!
It could be the sound that is attracting and annoying them
Yes mate you could well be right!
I have some little yellow birds around my house.... really annoying! I thought they wouldn´t be brave enough to attack my Mini or my Air2... but the other day one motherfuc**r di hit my air2 while in sports mode full throttle heading back down! I almost cut it in half and crashed! Really unpleasant situation! They should invent something to scare them away! Nice video!
Oh dear! Yeah that is exactly what I am afraid of - them zigging while I'm zagging! It's my mission to find a solution now! I think I may be fighting a losing battle but hey, it's worth a try!
Try a drone skin that is unique. like lime green or something that is not natural. They may think the drone is some kind of bird. I hear that changing the color may work. IDK but it's worth a shot if you want to see what can keep birds away from the drone.
Nope, they are just nasty birds ha ha
Did you find some solution for birds?
Unfortunately not yet!
Think those gulls have seen their share if Angry Birds clips. Net go, mount one of the P.A. speakers on their (if the Mini 2 can handle the weight in payload mode) Then you can yell profanities up close, let them know who is boss. I suspect they already know 😏🤪
Ha ha yeah I did think of a speaker - just as an experiment though because I'm kinda curious :-)
Looks scarey to me .. but gulls are dumb or ? anyway it's good to know in advance what might happen, so thanks for video .. it made my morning with a good laugh, Here's a silly thought . . . What about bird repellent? similar to what they use to put cats off from scratching furniture?
Yeah maybe there's some sort of sprayer I could attach! 🤣 Thanks for watching. I really appreciate your support! 🙏
@@GetBusyLiving I hate to go there but yep, there was a drone with speaker, water gun and one other attachment. Captain Drone reviewed it, but only had the speaker - I wonder if they sell the water pistol separately.
@@BlairAir Ha ha ok I will check that out!
What about Strobe Light on Top ?
Tried that already mate - failed - check out the video here 👍czcams.com/video/T95_kBMDrNg/video.html
Bloody sea gulls . It’s not just you . I have the same issue . I looked it up your not aloud to shoot the black beak ones . But no rules I could find about the orange ones.
. I I’d say take a slug gun with you . I’m going to try this on my next sea shore flight .
Bloody hell that's a bit drastic mate! 😲 Don't shoot your drone 🤣
Cant help you with any idea's ....😂
Oh well, thanks for watching any way 😊👍
You could try leaving tham alone and fly someplace else like I do. Live and let live and all that.
Ha ha yeah well it's not like I was looking for them and deliberately went after them 😀 I was alone when I started and then they appeared. Yeah you're right, time to move on!
Not an option here in Ireland, they are literally everywhere, especially after 16 months of lockdowns and outdoor dining

Thanks for watching! Looks like you had a laugh and that makes it worthwhile! 👍
They probably have nests or young.
Not to mention a bad attitude ha ha
They are probably nesting!
Do seagulls nest in suburbia?!🧐
Paint teeth on the drone.
Ha ha ok I might try that! Maybe 😬
try to dress it up as scarecrow or stuffed cat :D

😳😲OMG - I thought it was a joke to start with but no, it's real! OMG I didn't know whether to laugh or be horrified! I'm still not sure!! 🤣
Well the birds have been in this environment for a few million years longer than these new annoying buzzing things
That is very true my friend!
I've tried the stickers on the front and back, seemed to have made a difference ....for about 2 minutes. I don't think we can stop these damn flying rats. They've hit my poor Mini 2 3 times so far, once on video! If people would stop feeding the b#st&rds, we wouldn't be attacked by them so much
Hells bells really!? I'd love to see the video - are you going to post it on your channel?

Attack your boat!!?? Hells bells they have a chip on their shoulder don't they!?
Find a solution, please! Seagulls are not my friend
I'm working on it I'm working on it!! ha ha 🤣
Birds will attack anything that looks or behaves like a bird of prey unfortunately
yeah they are a pain!
use an actual picture of an eagle. color print it and paste to your drone

should we see a Drone let alone a Drone pretending to be a Bird The S$%# would hit the fan and you would have a bad day along with a hefty fine No offence But why oh why post this ?
Um, why not? No offence taken 😬
@@GetBusyLiving it is mystifying you would need an explanation Then again your not in Canada where we have some of the most robust laws regarding drones, it is highly likely you have not seen our content ( which is fine ) we often feature wildlife that is under pressure from human activity hence our position on any flights near water fowl or nesting birds,we don't know your location but we do see there is water near you What you do or how you conduct your channel is your Biz Not ours you want Birds to bugger off or whatever is your affair and it may be good YT entertainment ...we see you got 4 thumbs down from some who may share our concern Not from us as the like/dislike system is silly Thanks again for the posts we found helpful Good Luck in you future endeavours.
@@LANDSEAAIRCANADA All good mate, I understand where you're coming from now. Yeah we're the same with regard for wildlife, we have many species that are under threat and we take the preservation of those very seriously. The water is a little pond in the middle of a wide suburban area. If the birds were swallows, tui, fantails, keruru or any of a wide range of precious native species that were protected I'd be out of there like a shot don't worry about that mate 👍
