using a stiff rod with a stickbait (this one or another one) tends to make the lure jerk and mainly jerk out of the water. A softer tip take time to load and as such tends to keep the lure in the water. the softer tip also give the lure a more natural acceleration as you do long rod strips. Finally softer tips tend are easier on your arm muscles. The best is to have a rod with a softish tip but enough backbone to handle the bigger fish. Enjoy

I think flexible will be a better bet
can anyone tell me if it makes a difference whether you are using a stiff rod or a more flexible rod with this lure?

Do you use a Rapala knot on the lure or a quick release clip. Do you also remove the split ring if you are using the clip.
