- Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing the Zelda theme song.
The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB. Listen for the echo after the notes stop. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Programming and musical content by Steve Ward. Video was captured by Terry Blake and edited by Jeff Larson. - Zábava

hey, bass if you're still wondering how they do it. the coils are hooked up to a laptop via fiber optics where the track is playing off the computer and the data gets sent to and from the coils so each note the comp plays the coil reads it and adjusts the arc accordingly to the right sound. pretty much a giant plasma speaker
WOAH! That's amazing. I bet it took a good bit of time to get that to happen.
And some special armor...he might even need to borrow Samus' Varia Suit to go through that lightening storm!
that must be loud! that is so amazing!

You are pretty much right on. The sound comes from the plasma.
Very cool.

Epic win!!
Epic win!
They play "bloody game music" because it is fairly simple to follow, as the older type game music from the 80's are in the 8 bit format. This means that the sounds aren't as complicated as if in a melodic orchestra playing Mozart or something.
At Steve Ward and Jeff Larson, this is just magnificent work, I can't imagine the time put up to build these things. Amazing what science can do now a days. Just unbelievable.
Bloody hell, that's impressive!
Fucking unbelievable, with Tesla coils? Geekiness has no boundaries!
