  • 1. Water only during growing season (for most cacti that means when its hot)
    2. Water DEEPLY until water runs out of the pot
    3. Wait for soil to dry out completely before watering again

When ever you grow cacti and they don't die you are doing it right. To get them to bloom, try using tomato fertilizer, on them. They'll go crazy. Good luck GF1 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😎

Leaving roots dry for too long when they’re not in growing season can make them rot away also. If you’re not sure about watering I would use a heavy gritty soil. Lots of lava rock, perlite stuff like that. Trial and error is also a great teaching guide.

Thanks so much for posting this. I've been looking for another cacti exclusive channel, hopefully this is one. I have found that if I do not water in the dormant season at all the cacti lose their roots and I have lost cacti due to lack of water. I have a Rebutia that I'm trying to save cause I gave her no water this past winter. They need about 1/3 of the water they get in the growing season. If they start looking like they are starved for water, they need a sip to get them through the season.

Very detailed info. In it's natural habitat, cacti will get watered by the dew of the morning pretty much daily, in some seasons more dew than others of course. But yes the soil would be dry for months until it rains again. At least here in South Cali we get little rain a year, you can count w your fingers probably! So all these grow very in landscaping. Just gotta keep a desert like mentality ( for cacti) Doesn't have to be the dryest nor hottest either, you get my idea. 😆 Thanks again for the thorough video👍🌵💚

Y’all I have the attention span of a chipmunk so let’s see if I got it
    - Water only during growing season (late spring/all summer in a zone 10 place)
-Only water if soil is completely dried out (once a week depending)
-Water COMPLETELY through + a little extra but do not let sit in water (quick draining soil+drainage holes+ adequate sun/heat)
    - Don’t get the actual cactus wet unless it has enough time to dry off before the heat hits as to not burn the cactus (dawn/dusk)

Great tips👌😌I water the same except I water when the weather is rainy because that is when the temperature cools down and the cacti can take up more water efficiently🙏If I water before a sunny day the soil dries too fast and the temperature rises so the process of water uptake is inhibited. At times I will water a cacti that is very dehydrated twice; once and the next day again. That brings them to life after the extreme hot midsummer. I tend not to water in midsummer because it is over 37℃ / 98.6°F and most cacti just slow down. Anyway, thanks for sharing🤲✨And I am enjoying your content

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  Před 5 lety +3

They are extremely important when it comes to growing succulents. You can certainly have a cactus in a pot with no holes for a while, but it will not thrive since their roots need good drainage and especially lots of oxygen to prevent rot. I’ve murdered a fair amount of cacti and I’m thinking of starting again. I live near the equator and it’s usually 30-35 degrees Celsius outside all the time. How often do you think I should water my plants? Thanks :)

What if they are in the ground and u cant really look at the soil? What if its a big container do u still water it heavy only occ or just the root area of the cactus/succulents?
Is it really true water droplets can burn your plants i heard evaporation occurs first.????

    • @RareCactus

Hey there, water droplets can burn your plants so its best to water in the early morning or late evening. If they are in the ground, I would allow more time in between watering or not water at all.

Totally understandable! But they never really end up drying and burning from drought. They do however rot easily if you overwater 😉 Having the right soil definitely helps with that. Check out my website EastCoastCamanchaca.con for soil mixes and more information.
