For the record, I only printed the first page of every file Facebook gave me and then used blank pages to represent the rest of the stack that it would have been had I printed it...so please no comments about being unfriendly to the environment 😂😆 Thanks for watching and commenting! @Jack Sparrow Unfortunately, that doesn't work. They keep your data for ever. Most of will become obsolete at some point but that doesn't happen overnight. You'd be disgusted with what's being collected about you.
@@thomaswhitten2537 This has been my main concern for years. Just the fact they keep even our deleted data on multiple servers around the world that can be accessed by law enforcement whenever they want.🤬☠
Even though it's not likely, it's still a total violation of our privacy knowing it's never completely gone.
I downloaded my file right before I deleted my account. I was blown away at how free and open I was as a teenager with my freaking posts, including going as far as to post my phone number. Seeing myself as a Facebook statistic is what started me down the path of securing my online privacy.
In an age where information is the most valuable currency, what’s the best solution to prevent malicious use and manipulation? Government regulation? A universal “declaration of online rights?” It seems like more countries are becoming addicted to the power that comes with such intimate knowledge of their citizenry. I don’t see how we solve it.
Great point. We often forgot how we used to use social media a decade ago, how free we felt with our information, and it often comes back to bite us.
I was carefree when I was a teen/young adult too and I freaked out once I learned that fb does not respect privacy and would not even delete sent deleted messages and all data, including messages, from their servers. That company should be sued and shut down. I dont want those creeps looking at what I said 10 years ago
I made an account awhile back just for contacting a single merchant who I could only reach through Facebook. I used a fake name, never uploaded anything or added personal data, never searched anyone (except for that merchant) set it so I wouldn't be searched (even though I used a fake name), and set most settings to "Only Me" if it could and ticked off all privacy settings. I had no interaction with anyone aside from that merchant. When I checked the "People You Might Know" tab, I was surprised how they listed not my immediate family but relatives of extended family; how they listed not people in my class at med school, but people from other schools who were in the same year. Facebook wasn't on target, but I was surprised how close they got from what little I had on that account.
Very interesting…and a bit scary!
This is good. In addition to discouraging the use of facebook, I encourage the use of script blockers and ad blockers. Ads are ok, but many contain trackers so they deserve to be blocked.
Thanks for the tips, Jim.
I was absolutely shocked to see how much was in my "off-facebook" data. Apps I used to have on my phone, plenty of sites I've visited and had no idea they were sending data to fb. Especially one website that blogged about privacy and sold privacy tools. So rude, eh?!.
Great video, very eye opening. :)
This is what mean. I've never had an account, never been to the webpage and went so far as to block the site at my router for a while. My last two routers didn't have that feature. Still, I know for certain that I'm all over FaceBook since as early as 2007 or earlier, mostly because of in-laws but more importantly because everyone (businesses) is sharing your information without letting you know they will do that.
It’s sad but true. Your data is. Ring uploaded by other companies all the time, even if you don’t have an account.
Pretty much it went over my head and tech skills. Yet I can see that you have a good grasp of the content to help us. Thank you
Great video as always, went through something similar before I removed my account and reopened one under a different name for closer family and friends but with a higher focus on limited info sharing and security. Incredible how much info I gave them back in high school a decade ago without even a thought. Just crazy.
So true, David (or…is that really your name? 🤣😂)
Thank you Josh: I am in the process of doing the same right now. I am subscribed to your channel. You're great. Keep at it!
Thanks, Luis!
Interesting stuff....... Awesome video Josh...
Thanks, Ryan!
Thank you for the video, Amazing info, keep going!!
Thanks, Kenny!
Privacy only comes to those who work for it! Great video!
Thanks so much, Jeff!
Thank you sir. online privacy important 😎
Yes it is!
A lot of really good points here. These are the ones I do (some of them are akin to those in the video).
* I have never logged in to facebook in my main browser. I have one browser that I only use for facebook. I don't use the app.
* If I for some odd reason want to upload a photo, I resize it to 1280px max and at the same time strips the info in my image editor
* I never check in anywhere
* I never tag anyone, and if I am tagged myself I remove the tag
* Very little personal information on my facebook page.
I like that first one. Using a separate browser helps to keep Facebook from being able to connect your account with all your off-Facebook activity.
@@AllThingsSecured I heard that they had "cookies" that tracked you even if you weren't logged in to Facebook. Is that the pixel you were talking about?
It’s part of it, yes.
Thank you! Great video!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks man, I'm new to your channel, i love it, Cheers from Australia.. 😊🇦🇺😍👍
Thanks so much! I hope the dumpster diving is going well 😂
Thank you very much, some great tips.
My pleasure. I’m glad they’re useful.
You are very good.
Thanks for the kind words.
Good info thnx!!
My pleasure!
Great video. Thanks for the information. In the country im living in there is a gap in cyber security law. There is no way to get caught even if you was hacked. Is the same in your countries ? I even found lawmakers to change the loopholes in the law. Still nothing.
Very informative video. We use an old tablet for facebook only to assist with privacy. We don’t use it for anything else, no internet searches, no emails, nothing.
That’s probably a good idea.
Damn this should’ve had more views
Have you ever tried disconnecting from Google and Apple? Using degoogled phone with non google account or apps? What are your concerns with apple's upcoming update with access to your phone? Thanks for the content.
I haven’t…yet. I’m trying to figure how to build as much privacy as possible while still using the most popular devices and services.
This is a very important video!
One question is that, if I add extensions like Facebook container won't that add to my browser fingerprint? How to counter it?
Thankyou. 🙌🏻
Encourage millions of others to use the Facebook container?
I don’t know for sure, but for me it’s a risk I’m willing to take to make sure Facebook can’t directly track me.
THANK YOU JOSH!!!
ok i am taking ur advice on removing fb from my phone and im gonna put firefox on my phone. hopefully i can figure out the fb container add- on ... i am TOTALLY CLUELESS on phones or internet. and all its language and jargons. i BARELY know wat browser means. or paste. and i could never understand instagram so im not on there .
I certainly appreciate you Josh.
Glad to hear it was helpful, Cilla!

This is a very interesting video, well explained and broken down. But IMO, you can't stop Facebook from tracking you except you stop using their platform or affiliate apps.
Secondly, except your info has been false or anonymous online. They would always track you.
Sad truth.
Facebook basically does OSINT 😂
One of the points I’m trying to make, though, is that Facebook will track you even if you don’t have an account. So in my opinion, I’d rather have an account where I can monitor the data they collect and tell them what they can do with it.
@@AllThingsSecured well said.. Was still watching when I decided to leave a comment.
Well done
@@AllThingsSecured I'm glad I read the comments section.
This is an important point, which I had not thought about.
So Dennis, after all of these years, why did you finally join FB?
A: I wanted to tell them to take my data and put it where the sun doesn't shine."
BTW, totally off-topic, but last June I bought a new laptop, installed Firefox and TOR. TOR browser saved me a lot of trouble because I was uninstalling bloatware and I forget if it was MS-Office, McAfee or Adobe Flash, but some necessary OS files relating to System32 were removed that rendered Firefox inert, wouldn't open webpages. I was able to search the error message, that Firefox kindly offered up, using TOR and the fix was to install some software from Microsoft that had the necessary files. It's cool that TOR doesn't need these files. I think the software I had to install had something to do with programming in C++.
That's odd. I've never had that kind of problem with Firefox before. Glad Tor worked for you, though!
@@AllThingsSecured I think I recall now that it was Lastpass bloatware that removed a couple of dll files when I attempted (and failed) to remove it. And it was installing MS Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) that I learned was recommended for reinstalling the missing files. If I can recreate the scenario I should drop into a couple of popular forums discussing the "why my firefox won't open webpages" question and mention my experience.
The Facebook I use is "not mine" there are 0 personal information. O check-ins (other than the ones I need for convenience of my business) 0 "real" info. 0 tags allowed, I do not tag anyone either, I don't click on any ad, I don't have "friends" in it (mostly companies ) I do believe no one can really know who I am thru it.
What about setting the app permission on the facebook application to have all deny permissions? Would that be an alternative to removing facebook entirely? Only asking because that is what I have done my significant others phone who will not remove the app
If they refuse to remove the app, it’s the next best option for you.
Personally, I am skeptical that Facebook honors your privacy settings internally.
Make a video on boxcryptor
I will eventually.
Make sure to run adblockers folks
So Facebook has metadata on the photos of its just a raw unedited photo but if one were to edit the photo in other applications and then screenshotted the final product and then posted that….what metadata would there be?
if*
This is crazy, and its crazy how much they can do.
Yes it is. Thanks for the comment, Matt!
what can you say about the safari browser?
I’m not sure what your asking about exactly. Safari in regard to Facebook?
sorry about that, was asking about its privacy features? and yeah also in regard to Facebook
Went through my profile a few months ago and deleted most personalia, restricted access to the remaining info to friends, and deleted every photo I've uploaded. Nobody else is likely to care about my old holiday photos, and I already got them on my local storage drive and on an encrypted backup drive, so there's absolutely no reason for them to be on there. I also considered removing tags of me in other people's photos, but that would make it pretty difficult to hunt down any pictures of me if I'd want to request their removal in the future.
I'm with you there - there's really not reason that Facebook needs to keep my data that's older than a year (if that much).
@@AllThingsSecured I wish there was a site that could send requests to Facebook for our deleted data to be permanently destroyed so that it can't be recovered from their servers. Similar to what delete me does, but more powerful. If you know what I mean.
can you do a video on the intel management engine. scary stuff
What about it?
I cannot remove the check ins any suggestion?
It might not be possible. I’m not sure.
i see a commonality of audio levels being inconsistent
It's best to just not go to FB at all for about 1.5 years. The net goes on...and on. The FB algorithm forgets you pretty well if you just stay away-if you change phone numbers, addresses, employers and cell phones. Covert actions n attitudes go a LONG way towards keeping yourself anonymous.
Facebook container add on asks for permission to access your data from all websites isn't that tracking as well ?
This permission is required in order for the extension to be able to block Facebook on all websites you visit. You're giving them the same level of trust that you give your internet browser or any other extension you use.
@@AllThingsSecured Very informative, I was unable to find this info on google, you deserve more subs.
Dude. Why do you still have an iPhone? I mean, it goes against the very idea of your (awesome) channel.
Ha! I’m always evaluating these decisions and for now I haven’t decided it’s worth switching away from my iPhone. Who knows in the future, though.
Can facebook load the data of a deleted account ? Plz answer ?
Yep
I got a verizon phone and put no contact they had all my facebook so call friends emails on my new verizon account.
Install a Pi-Hole dns filter on your network.
That only fixes a few of the problems here, but thanks for sharing!
I've been preaching about this since the early 90's. People just don't want to believe they're privacy has been compromised. Even when they're show the evidence, they won't do anything. What the hell is wrong with them??? You can't fix stupid.
When you've spent the last decade trusting what happens online, it's like that whole frog in a boiling pot of water mentality.
Think a lot of people hate you look at something on say Amazon land adverts for said items come up in Facebook. To FB it makes sense but it creeps a lot people out. It’s like someone looking over your shoulder.
Oh Tina just looked a Thailand on the map, advert pops up places and deals on hotels in Thailand. And that’s it at its most harmless.
Yea, some people don’t mind and some people hate it.
I thought I had completely denied Facebook every avenue of (legally) collecting data but today while sifting through the maze of ad related data I was horrified how many intimate details they had. Since I denied Facebook access to any of my phones data I've exclusively used it on a PC without a microphone or camera. Something is really suspect and down right disturbing not just that it's happening but most people are okay with it. When did personal privacy stop being important.
What happened to the times where opening someone else's mail was a federal offense?? Privacy is such a joke now. I'm so tired of having to accept all those hella long terms and conditions in order to do anything short of living off the grid. Thank you for at least trying to fight the seemingly impossible fight against FB and cyber security. I hope there will be better, more serious laws that hold people accountable for for all this spying, data storing and most importantly privacy invasion. Maybe I'm getting greedy here, but if there was a law that barred all terms and conditions from including anything that would compromise anyone's personal data or security, that'd be ideal. I suppose one can dream...
Thanks, Kennith. I know what you mean - it can be really frustrating.
What if you don't even have a fb account, can they still track you?
Yes, although it will be via a general fingerprint and not by your actual name.
@@AllThingsSecured
Anyway to stop that, Brave or VPN?
I removed all the information from Facebook I could, eg. Where I work and where I live etc.
I know a dude who used to have his actual house address publicly available.
Yea, sometimes people just don’t realize what info they’ve given Facebook in the past!
I got rid of about 3 Facebook accounts that I had over the course of my life, one which I had made back in 2009 (deleted 2015) one created 2015 to replace my 2009 one (deleted 2018) and another created in 2020 (deleted after 5 months) I have all the data since I downloaded them before deleting the account and holy crap, the amount of information they have on me is staggering...
I'm not sure if I'm more impressed that you kept all that data or that you actually created and then deleted three different Facebook accounts 😝
I block all Facebook related IP addresses (that I could find) at my firewall. So hopefully that limits the "Facebook pixel" and "Like us on Facebook" button tracking anything.
Hmm…never thought of that. Have you tried using the Facebook fencing extension I mentioned?
@@AllThingsSecured No, but now that you mention it, I really need to give it a try.
I don't have FB account at all. xD
Good for you, Alan.
@@AllThingsSecured Wait, wait, wait...... in a prior post, you indicated it would be better to have a FB account, to manage the information which FB has on a person.
Now, I am confused as to whether to join FB or not.
@@TheDennisgrass If you don't already have a Facebook account, I wouldn't create one. Managing your privacy settings through Facebook is a Plan B for people who refuse to stop using Facebook. (Personally, I am skeptical that Facebook honors your privacy settings internally.)
Even if you don't have an account, Facebook has compiled a dossier on you based on information provided by Facebook users (businesses, friends, and relatives) and third parties. Additional steps are needed to mitigate your loss of privacy.
Oh man! 😅 Moral of the story : what you do online isn't private.
Thanks for the YubiKey tip by the way [from the previous video].
Absolutely true, Neel!
I grew up in a small town.
What you do offline isn't private!
@@TheDennisgrass I heard that. Rumours can spread very rapidly in villages.
There's only one way to protect your data from Facebook and that is to never use it.
He just said it doesnt matter they get it and use it even if you dont use it . It is in everything .
Not using Facebook is best, but even if you don't have an account, Facebook has compiled a dossier on you based on information provided by Facebook users (businesses, friends, and relatives) and third parties. Additional steps are needed to mitigate your loss of privacy.
In one sense, I would say it’s better to have a Facebook account so at least you can have a say in how the data is used.
@@AllThingsSecured cognative dissonance springs to mind.
We are stuck. Ive been so private and matters not.
What do you mean?
@@AllThingsSecured our information is there forever. I am very private but when I looked at my information it was like what you just showed. Wish we could delete it all. I am disconnected from fb
I feel so mad l dont have fb but my friends do. And they share everything so they can track me.
Yea, that's one of the hardest things about online privacy: it matters what other people do as well.
