I was only able to live a short time in Chapel Hill, but I still dream of it. They perfectly mixed an urban atmosphere with an abundance of nature. The tall tall pines, stunning hiking trails, places of worship from old school to progressive, the great schools, ect.. My daughter and I rode the bus one afternoon and honestly every single young person respecfully said hello and goodbye to the bus driver!! I'm still in awe.

Lots of places they left out, but overall a good vid. They could have highlighted better on Weaver Street Market or University mall / Carr Mill mall. Campus is always fun to explore, but they didn't mention iconic campus stuff like The Pit, The Well, or the Bell Tower. There's also some amazing ice cream places here (like the Maple View Farm Country Store), but overall this video made decent highlights & captured enough of the feel.

@@christophermotte7532 me too! I'm raising 2 boys in Carrboro, experiencing the family amenities this town offers these days. But I'm a self admitted "Townie" and had so much fun here in my 20s and teens... it was wild times! So so many blackout drunk nights at Cats Cradel, Reservoir, Station, Millhouse, it was hipster heaven lol, miss those days but I love being a mama and I guess I changed my ways as I matured/got sober... I'll be 37 this year. Anyways did you ever get to go to a Cradel show or go downtown while you were in town?

    Hello, My name is Herb.
I am a 62 yr.old ,married man ,and prior service Army veteran.
I am researching areas to relocate and move to, in the S/E United States.
We have been in West Texas for 30+ years and its time for a change.
We have some family in the North Carolina Area as well.
Is there anything you can tell me about your town or area
that you think we would need to know?
The good & the bad areas or towns , crime, rental homes or average price(s) ,
Is there any V.A. clinics/Hospital in that area or not. Large cities is definitely a no go. :)
I played music for 30 years so any concert or entertainment information in that area would also be of interest to me.
Any information you share would be greatly appreciated.
God bless and thank you for your assistance,
    Herb :)

Chapel Hill is a progressive, diverse, liberal town of, now, 60,000. Costs in Chapel Hill and our adjoining Carrboro are a bit higher than nearby cities in NC's Triangle, named from major university cities in Orange, Durham, and Wake Counties.
We lead the state with a public transit bus system, reinvigorated again in 1974, that made the responsible social and environmental decision to provide affordable transit services to all, going to a fully free-ride fare at the turn of the century.
Our public education system through the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools has a history of excellence. Of course, unlike most communities, we are home to a major university, UNC Chapel Hill (aka Carolina). UNC was the first public university in the U.S., and is the flagship university of a statewide system of higher learning. It's a big campus, but very walkable. And it is gorgeous 365 days each year.
Additionally, Chapel Hill and the University here have an excellent major medical center, UNC Hospitals. Numerous satellite facilities keep accessibility quite easy. Our UNC Hospitals (and Health Care) are also a world-renowned medical research facility. Our closest VA hospital is in Durham, across from Duke Medical Center.
But the arts, music in particular? That is a shining gem. That's true for all of the Triangle for that matter. With our university, UNC Chapel Hill, but also one or two major universities in Durham (Duke and NCCU), and several in Raleigh (NSCU, William Peace Univ, Shaw Univ., Meredith, St. Augustine's...) arts and music in particular is diverse, vibrant, and nurtured. Chapel Hill, and now Durham as well, have a strong indie rock culture. Raleigh does also, but they have a fuller range of all music options. Our long-standing NC Symphony is out of Raleigh, but hosts shows and concerts across our state. They are embraced by all. Chapel Hill's Southern Village neighborhood hosts the NC Symphony for a free, outdoor concert annually, usually a weekend summer night. (This year's is Friday, June 14, 2019 evening on the lovely Village Green.)
A bit about our area, but beyond Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Durham adjoins parts of Chapel Hill, and is often referred to as being about 12 miles NE of here. Durham's housing costs are quite affordable, and they've cultivated an outstanding local pride that is reflected in enviable improvements they have actively made over the past two decades. Raleigh, our capital city and the third named part of the Triangle, is an all-around gem of a place. It's 30 miles from ESE of Chapel Hill. Both of these cities are much larger than Chapel Hill, or CH/Carrb combined.)
      TIDBITS:
      > 36 Free Outdoor Concert Series in the Triangle 2019.
      triangleonthecheap.com/free-outdoor-summer-concerts-triangle/ .
      > An outstanding free weekly paper, also available online without registration, is The Indy. It is a good intro to the milieu of the Triangle. It covers our three counties of the Triangle. indyweek.com/

As I’m currently here staying in the graduates hotel have to say everything from food to museums to the gardens all are closed for a week without notice on websites. Eateries close early don’t even put it on the website or let you know. Very big disappointment driving 10 hours to do nothing l. Everything in this city is over hyping the college basketball team and using them as a theme. If you’re not into that team it’s going to be pretty boring. i do event planning for a living and 9/10 of everything I wanted to do here was closed indefinitely with nothing to say for it with the exception of some eateries.
