    1:10 What causes this allergy?
    1:31 Treatment for Nut Allergy
    nut allergy is a hypersensitivity to dietary substances from tree nuts and edible tree seeds causing an overreaction of the immune system which may lead to severe physical symptoms. Tree nuts include, but are not limited to, almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, filberts/hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios,[1] shea nuts and walnuts.[note 1]
    Management is by avoiding eating the causal nuts or foods that contain them among their ingredients, and a prompt treatment if there is an accidental ingestion.[2] Total avoidance is complicated because the declaration of the presence of trace amounts of allergens in foods is not mandatory in every country.[3][4][5]
    Tree nut allergies are distinct from peanut allergy, as peanuts are legumes, whereas a tree nut is a hard-shelled nut. Food allergies in general usually have an onset of symptoms in the range of minutes to hours for an IgE-mediated response, which may include anaphylaxis.[6] Symptoms may include rash, hives, itching of mouth, lips, tongue, throat, eyes, skin, or other areas, swelling of lips, tongue, eyelids, or the whole face, difficulty swallowing, runny or congested nose, hoarse voice, wheezing, shortness of breath, diarrhea, abdominal pain, lightheadedness, fainting, nausea, or vomiting.[7] Non-IgE-mediated responses occur hours to days after consuming the allergenic food, and are not as severe as IgE-mediated symptoms. Symptoms of allergies vary from person to person and incident to incident.[7]
    Potentially life-threatening, the anaphylactic onset of an allergic reaction is characterized by respiratory distress, as indicated by wheezing, breathing difficulty, and cyanosis, and also circulatory impairment that can include a weak pulse, pale skin, and fainting. This can occur when IgE antibodies are released[8] and areas of the body not in direct contact with the food allergen show severe symptoms.[7][6][9] Untreated, the overall response can lead to vasodilation, which can be a low blood pressure situation called anaphylactic shock.[9]
    Consumption of raw nuts usually causes a more severe reaction than roasted nuts or food-grade nut oils, as processing can reduce the integrity of the allergic proteins.[citation needed]

    I’m allergic to walnuts because I ate a brownie with walnuts and it was dangerous when I ate one, I had an allergic reaction to that, and i could’ve died from that, but lucky I did, I have to be careful, because allergic foods can sometimes lead to instant death. I was born to have an allergic to those things.

    Well, im not sure if i have one or not. I ate cashew, peanuts just fine. But there are 2 times i have difficulties breathing when i ate 2 different food that has i-have-no-idea nut. I ate a cheese cake with nuts in it. But no one knows what kinda nuts in there. I ate other food too that time, but those food i normally ate just fine, which lead me think about the cake. Then 2 days ago, my friend brought turkish delight which has nuts in it. I was curious and ate 2 of it. When i was on my way home, i start to have short breath again. So i think i have allergic in some nuts (not all). Now im thinking to buy one by one of tree nuts and try eat it and see which one that will show the reaction😅

      I'm allergic to all kinds of legumes. And to make it worst, I have G6PD which is a genetic disorder that affects people’s G6PD levels. G6PD stands for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. G6PD is an enzyme that protects your red blood cells from harmful substances. Deficiency happens when the gene that drives the G6PD enzyme mutates or changes so the enzyme can’t protect red blood cells. Certain foods and medications can trigger G6PD deficiency.

      Peanut allergies and tree nut allergies, such as those to cashews, Brazil nuts, and pistachios, are caused by different proteins and thus do not always overlap. It's wise to avoid untested nuts if you're allergic to certain types, as cross-reactivity can occur among tree nuts.

    I’m allegeric to peanuts can I eat walnuts ?

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  Před 7 měsíci

      Peanuts and walnuts are different types of nuts, and having an allergy to one type of nut does not necessarily mean you will be allergic to another. However, cross-reactivity between different types of nuts is possible, as they may contain similar proteins that can trigger allergic reactions in some individuals. If you have a peanut allergy, it's essential to consult with an allergist before trying other nuts like walnuts. They can perform specific tests to determine whether you are allergic to walnuts or other nuts. It's crucial to exercise caution and avoid self-testing, as nut allergies can be severe, leading to anaphylaxis in some cases. Always follow the guidance of your healthcare provider and carry an epinephrine auto-injector if you have a known nut allergy.
