Sean's "tight boxing" style is suited for disciplined strikers like Izzy. Izzy either out fancy you with his Matrix BS or he's done for, since he has no clinch, scramble, or elite BJJ to resort to. Or strength/physicality, like Costa, DDP, Alex et al.
Costa is a brawler, a pressure brawler, like Jiri.
Costa also has strength, muscles, & a good chin (like Marvin Vettori). Costa also is a very good BJJ guy, even though he only wants people to see his chiseled chin and mini Arnold physique. It isn't going to be an easy fight for Sean.
Those short but powerful T-rex arms and his powerful leg kicks will get to Sean eventually.

The views were down. The impressions were down. Now during UFC 300 the biggest event of the year all the views are up. Most interest is generated in the sport. During that you should announce your next big fights so a lot of those people who are in tune right now know when those banger events are next.

Unfortunately buddy Dustin is not the same as Izzy who is one of the greatest middleweights of all time with 5 successful title defences against the best in the division. Dustin had multiple chances in his prime to get the belt and now out of necessity, not merit, because all other contenders won’t be able to fight in June he gets a shot. Izzy vs DDP also just makes sense from a story perspective, which like it or hate it, plays a role in matchmaking and there is none of that at all with Islam and Dustin.

Here’s the logic behind it… they’ve already made all the money they can make off UFC300. The live gate tickets and PPV buys have all been sold. It was a huge event though and a lot of people are watching the post fight presser so they use the audience from UFC 300 to hype the next events and make fight announcements. Not rocket science here.

This is part of it, the announcement is apart of UFC 300, it’s not a separate thing by itself, the announcement is apart of the post fight press conference.
Throw that out there, get some questions rolling, leave, and in between fighters, the media is going nuts with what was just casually dropped on them.
It keeps UFC 300 big for longer. They thought out before the event, during, and after; truly the greatest event of all time, and you can include this as one of the best post fight announcements of all time. And you can remember when it happened and where you were when you heard Conor is coming back

How many times are we going to do this as MMA fans? We said the same thing about Holloway vs Gaethje and Islam vs Volk. Islam is the obvious favorite against DP but we’ve seen crazier things in the fight game. We won’t know the true outcome until they step in the cage.
This fight reminds me of the Zombie-Volk fight. I don’t have any issue with it. The timing works out, it’s fan friendly, and it gives a legend one last shot. Everyone complaining are probably the same people that were okay with Colby getting 2 undeserved shots.

It's not a matter of the fights overshadowing UFC 300, because that card was a banger, and honestly none of those fights are really THAT intriguing.
Actually, all those fights were pretty much a done deal a week ago. Sean tweeted at Paulo confirming the fight... Islam said weeks ago that he wanted Dustin in June... And McGregor/Chandler has been in the works for 2 WHOLE YEARS. So it's not like these announcements were going to blow anyone's socks off anyways.
But if they had a little room to breathe, and the MMA world had a chance to settle down a bit, you would see more folks talking about those fights. But the way they played it, the announcements made a lame first impression and because we just got a crazy card that delivered hard, these fights just seem less interesting in comparison.

I like the Poirier fight for a few reasons:
- It means Tsarukyan doesn’t have to turn around in 2 months, he can recover properly and give the winner a proper challenge
- That early June event before IFW is usually not a big fight. This is probably the biggest one we can hope for.
- If Islam wins he probably doesn’t have to fight any more old heads after that, unless Chandler beats that Road House guy
- If Dustin wins he will no longer be the best lightweight never to win the undisputed title - and in fact he probably jumps straight into the GOAT convo

You’re wrong, Chandler is a great stylistic matchup for Conor. He’s short, Hitable, and has low fight IQ. This is the one of the most winnable fights Conor could have come back to.
