Something about the way D'Arcy Carden delivers the "LOOOK AT THEEMMMMM" line followed by the unbelievably cheerful "Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards!!" makes me choke with laughter every time. She's so effing good.
In a normal sitcom I can usually figure out the plot long before its revealed. Sometimes most of the jokes as well. This show derailed my expectations over and over again. 7th episode reveal was one of the really good ones.
As much as D'Arcy Carden is amazing through the 1st 6 episodes, I feel like this episode she finally gets her own arc and I am here for it! Cause I'm a messy bench who loves the drama!
I love this episode's cliffhanger. I was so not expecting Eleanor to confess this fast. I thought the entire season or series would be about her trying to hide that she doesn't belong, so for her to stand up and say it in episode seven?! Wild. That's when I knew, okay, this show's approach is really not the norm and I'm in it for the ride, all the way!
Just a small comment - I really like how you guys analyze everything. Very enjoyable! And you are in for a wild ride, the show is excellent and different until the very end.
I agree with the idea that this was all planned out from the start. Never before have I seen the entirety of a sitcom where I believed they had not just the ending sketched out but all the individual plot points and reveals sketched out from the get-go. Vince Gilligan definitely has me believed he does the same, but his shows ain't sitcoms!
2:31 Oh yeah, the behind the scenes stuff for this show was fascinating! If either of you are podcast listeners, there’s an official one for this show called The Good Place: The Podcast, which started airing between seasons 2 & 3. So once you finish season 2 you can listen to it without worrying about spoilers. Each podcast episode covers one episode of the tv show, and has different guests such as actors and crew members and occasionally even Michael Schur himself!
Such a great episode for a number of reasons, one of my favorites. High points for me, possibly the funniest murder ever and then the cliffhanger ending that does immediately change the direction of the show. Keep up the good work guys.
I mean according to psychoanalysis self preservation is narcissistic, so everything from feeding yourself to prevent you from dying, to sleeping and seeking shelter, are all narcissistic acts. But that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Words can have many different connotations and everybody needs a little bit of selfishness to just be alive
I saw a study showing how small children do not understand that other people have different desires than their own. These kids would try to feed the adults the cookies no matter how much the adult indicated they prefer broccoli. The kids are "self centered", but I also see this as the seeds of empathy: the kids try to treat the adult as the kid would like to be treated.
I mean Eleanor staying in the Good Place at the expense of others, which seems to be the case, is putting her own needs above others. Of course, there’s the question of how extreme and dire needs are, which is somewhat individual. Being tortured forever is objectively worse than being pained by keeping a lie forever lol, though it does cause Chidi far more anguish than it does most people. But people become who they are out of self-preservation, and unfortunately, unnecessary cruelty stems from that, IMO. They’re not inextricably linked though. It’s just being a human is hard lol. If you don’t have enough self-preservation, you don’t survive or thrive. And that comes in many different forms, sometimes very ugly.

One of my favorite parts of the episode. "LOOK AT THEM! LOOK AT THEMMMMMM!" Kills me. 😆🤣
Sooo goood!
That moment when you got a season-finale-type cliffhanger IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON. lol that's Mike Schur for ya

Janet is so intense when she's begging for her life! I agree with you about how well-written this is. It always keeps you guessing!
And D'Arcy is a highlight of acting throughout the entire series. She is SO GOOD!

12:53...."you blew it up in the 7th episode that's crazy"
Lol...Michael schur: "hold my beer"
Oh boy! :)
1:37 Yeah ❤️ the entire series is one big story, that's why each show is a 'chapter' in the story.

This is definitely a "wow, okay now I legit have no idea where this story is going" episode
@@EnviroSocial Absolutely! Great way to put it. 😊
