- I Applied HIGH VOLTAGE to Electric Toys! #2 (DANGEROUS)
In this video, I connected some electric toys to the WANPTEK DC power supply using wires. I continuously applied increasing voltage to the toys, starting from 5V and going up to 30V. Increasing voltage results in the generation of larger current in the motor, leading to an increase in torque and speed. The resulting effects were both exaggerated and humorous. (Easter Egg at the End)

I like how most of the toys, after a certain voltage, suddenly stop playing the cheery happy music and instead replace it instead with eerie silence accompanied by the mechanical whir and sometimes a strangled cry or a fallen limb. The happy toy they once were replaced by silent suffering. Anyways this was funny as hell

@@craftyfish0 exactly. Sometimes you can even hear exactly when that happens, because the high voltage somehow forces the sound chip to comply with a more ”straight” current (you can hear how it bass-boosts the sound) for a second until it completely just fries it.
@@xmysef4920And the mechanical parts keep going long after because logic circuits are a lot less willing to tolerate high voltage than motors are.

I think it's the amplifier and sound chip that die because of the high voltage, not the actual speaker itself.
@@kavelab699You'd be right, it's much easier to overload the sound circuitry than the speaker wire. Watch some Dankpods videos to see just how tough cheap nugbuds can be against powerful DAC's :)
It's more the sound chip and/or memory getting blown into pieces, but it's really interesting to see how resistant some are. The first toy survived double it's rated voltage limit which would never ever be achieved even by the worst overcharged batteries in existence.

The cheap voltage regulator (if there even is one) powering the CPU just fries after around 10-15 V, and from then on the CPU is permanently dead and won't ever come back. Motor keeps trying its best though

Yeah, brushed DC motors are very robust, they just need good enough cooling.
Till you smell burnt lubricant and the crappy coil
Yeah brushed motors are pretty tough against overvolting, but the PCBs for I E. sound just have a limit where they pop
If you see the amperage, you see as the voltage grows higher, the power is the same.
Apparently they are robust because they have a natural tendency to a "field reduction".
Only limit is the axis resistance to keep goin.
Can't say the same about the speaker
Whenever he puts a toy at 10volts, it feels like the toy is finally working at 100% capacity. They start moving at a sort of normal yet speedy paces. Its really nice to watch.

I'm very impressed with the motors, being able to handle a voltage so much higher than designed for.
If I'm not mistaken, most small DC motors are able to handle more than what's capable within reason for short periods of time. The concept (emphasis on concept so I don't get scolded by any replies) is kind of like overclocking a CPU or charging a battery with more amperage than usual. It'll work, but it kills the lifespan.

I'm no expert but these may be off the shelf parts, that can handle higher voltages per spec.

I was going to comment this very thing. It really got me thinking about these toys being purposefully underpowered so they don’t use too many batteries at once. This one looks like it would be fine being plugged in so I don’t know why it would even have a battery powered option.

Since that merry go round looked to be specifically aimed at todlers, if ANYTHING went wrong it could end up real bad, and that thing having a cord is a recipe for a strangled child. Plus the outlets in the US are 120v, so even though it would definitely be stepped down it still has the potential of delivering a lethal shock

Every single one of these toys has one of two things happen:

Our cat has seizures, unfortunately it is not curable and happens randomly. She doesn't bite though after. Only yelps 3 loud growls and then is stunned for about 10 minutes, then she slowly goes back to normal. Good thing is that recently there has been a decline of seizures occurring per month, now it's one or even less!

A few things to consider:
1. Please try to undervolt them to see if the audio gets slower of faster, usualy it does because the voltage going through the clock resistor drops and thus slowing down the execution rate of the audio and code inside of the audio chips.
2. let us see the circuitry so we can maybe see magic smoke. 3. Also buy a power Supply that can go up to 10 amps at 50-60 volts see what happens to the motor.
4. Buy a thermal camera so we can see the chips getting hot.
5. Send the broken toys or sound boxes to a intergrated circuit decap youtuber like electronupdate or someone else, then him and us can see what high voltage did to the chips at silicon level, see the broken transistors and gates.
6. Try applying reverse voltage, see if anything exciting happens.
The most likely thing to happen when overvolting ICs is the internal insulation breaking down, and that's very difficult to see even with an electron microscope.
