No one does it better then Bryn.
To truly understand opera, one has to realize that this was the movies, radio, and rock concert all in one back then. And it was certainly entertaining.
you've never seen a movie then
Terfel does really good acting here!
And it's everytime great to see him together with Bartoli ... they just "fit" each other perfect
That's my favourite interpretation of Figaro on CZcams!
His italian is so good, that you hardly notice it's not his mother language!
Bravo!
Per montagne, per valloni,
Con le nevi, e i solioni,
Al concerto di tromboni,
Di bombarde, di cannoni,
Che le palle in tutti i tuoni,
All'orecchio fan fischiar....So incredibly bright!!!
I love his flamboyant character. He truly loves what he does and does what he loves. There's not a shadow of doubt as to where Bryn Terfel's passion lies .... music and opera.
Cherubino grabbing the switch was fantastic. XD
Also the more congenial ending just before he throws a fit was an adorable adaptation.
Love his Figaro. So simple clear sound with great character and expression. Molto Bravo!
One of the greatest Figaros of all time
Poor Cherubino :'(
I love this character indeed. He is so cute.
藍墨茶 да нормальный Керубино тут. Просто немного не такой, как в исполнении Марии Юинг, где прям эталон
This is my favourite performance in the You Tube. Not only Bryn is excellent, but the other two singers play her role very good as well.
Cecilia and Katleen Battle are that singers who are same good actresses on the stage!
Cecilia was good in the finale of the II.part on the You Tube.
Great singing, great conducting, and great playing from the orchestra.
nailed it. I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!! all the movements, undeniable charisma and Voice, and controlled breathing? AMAZING. The man was born to sing.
Bryn, you are really Bravo in Figaro role.
Your pronunciation of the words is perfect.
Very good indeed.
I never get tired of this fabulous "insult aria" "Say goodbye for little butterfly to pleasures" or as in a new translation in 1974
"It's over, little slob, with smiles, With little secret games and entertainment. It's out of your hunting for girls, Say goodbye, little dandy and disappear! It is an end to your hunt for girls, Say goodbye, little dandy, and get lost Lay off that navy suit, Say goodbye for the nice perfume. Now switch silk and velvet against military service.
Simply magnificent! What a voice!
One of the best Nozze ever.
Bryn terfel definitely has the physique du rôle
You're a true Mozart fan if at 0:35 you instinctively want to sing "Leeeeeeporello!"
Ah, I love that allusion he puts in at Gia la mensa preparata. I'm totally with you on this 😂
Haha, yes!!
Exactly! lmao 😂
The text of the aria is about Figaro telling Cherubino how military life is, and also poking fun of his want to join. The aggression fits well, its impressive his tone does not waiver throughout. But I agree poor little Cherubino :-)
His timing is perfect. Great video!
bryn terfel is the man
love this song and performance!!
"The rest is just the same, isn't it?...that doesn't really work, does it? ... Did you try....shouldn't it be a bit more... or this ... this...YES!...better?...what do you think?"
Come on, you have to admit that he does an amazing job.
the best tempo so far!!! love it :)
Bryn Terfel is amazing! Not only is his voice good, but he acts well, too. Can someone please tell me where I can find the DVD of this performance? I think this is the 1998 Metropolitan Opera production of Figaro, conducted by James Levine. I tried to get the DVD on Amazon and eBay but I can't find it. Maybe there is no DVD? That would be strange, since this is a well done performance including a famous cast (Terfel, Bartoli, Levine )
Please message me or reply so that I can buy the DVD. Thanks!
Браво! Браво! Гениально!
Наряду с Германом Преем
WHAT A VOICE !!!!!!!!!! SUPER GREAT ..
1: Salieris march much haha
2: I can imagine peter griffin arguing in Italian to this song
es el mejorrrr por siempre!!!!!!!!
Terfel is the Pinza of his day!
Чудесное исполнение. Высший балл
He and José Fardilha are the best Figaros I've ever seen
I couldn't find a Terfel "Largo al Factotum" nor a Prey "Non piu andre" to compare on CZcams.
So I'll just say this is my favorite "Non piu andre" and leave it at that.
I never noticed that and now I can't stop laughing!!! LOL
Love it at the end, when he thubs his nose
In my city should have more of it. Very good .
Mitridate is six hours long when its ballet is included. My source is Grove's. I have listened to both of the modern video recordings neither of which includes the ballet and both of which often cut many of the da Capos.
Indeed, in Don Giovanni (Atto II, Scena 17: "Già la mensa è preparata"), musicians are supposed to play famous opera arias to entertain Don Giovanni while he's eating and waiting for il Commendatore. Thus Leporello starts singing ("Questa poi la conosco pur troppo...") on the same tune as Le nozze's "Non più andrai"! Le nozze had had such a great success the year before, Mozart knew (I guess!) people would recognize it and couldn't help but slip in a nod to it! :)
Love it
I think this is a really good performance and Levine is great conducting! I really like Terfel as Figaro and i think he is one of the best for this role. I also love Hermman Prey's performance, he is vocally awesome! But about performance i preffer Terfel :) Bravo Maestro!
pumpin this in my 64 cadillac
AMAZING
unbelievable performance
najlepsze wykonanie jakie słyszałem :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he off pitch in some parts? For example when he emphasizes certain words in sentences: "NON piu andrai", "QUEL cappello" "turbando il riPOSO", etc...
It seems to me as if he's emphasizing them too much that it makes him sing them on a higher pitch.
I'm new in opera so I'm just wondering.
~
Levine genius!!!
*-----* I love his voice
Damn, he's good! And yes, Bartoli looks very appealing.
@Patrick Boyle: there's a duet (Se viver non degg'io) and an ensemble (at the very end) in Mitridate. But it's pretty much a Baroque opera, very different from Mozart's mature stuff. Still has some really neat arias (Mitridate's and Farnace's).
Best Figaro ever!
Combine the genius of Mozart with people of this high level of talent....well it just doesn't get much better.
Bravissimo
I don't know if and when it will be commercially released.
is terfel just tall or is the cherubino extremely small?
OMG, this is hilarious! I was laughing the entire time from the first time FIgaro stuck his leg around and was straddling Cherubino at 0:51
Could you please note me whether this complete performance is available on DVD or CD. Many thanks.
@ 1.30 the 'fraguerrieri poffar bacco' rythm is wrong.. interpretational or just wrong?
I stand corrected.
Yeah, me too. I'd be interested in seeing his Cortiagani vil razza and Si vendetta.
Bryn Terfel is one of the best baritones in the world. Others include Dimitri Hvorostovsky, Andreas Schmidt, James Morris and Cornell MacNeill.
One word: tenor
Баритон так-то 🤣
anyone else listening to this while theyre making pizza at home? no? ok
is this version found in dvd? I own the one of 1993 but I would keep us to have this also.
this song reminds me of the show "fringe" when walter bishop demonstrates harmonic music can decrease neuron activity int the brain
@spyridon77 agreed, he is a really good actor
To be able to sing it while hearing it sorry for the inconvenience :
Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso
Notte e giorno d'intorno girando
Delle belle turbando il riposo
Narcisetto, Adoncino d'amor
Delle belle turbando il riposo
Narcisetto, Adoncino d'amor
Non più avrai questi bei pennacchini
Quel cappello leggero e galante
Quella chioma, quell'aria brillante
Quel vermiglio, donnesco color

@SirChristopher365 i'd go with yes, the conductor is James Levine, and he's the in house conductor at the Met.
Hope it wasn't too late, i'm writing a paper on it too. Cheers!
Poor Cherubino :)
Is this the one with Cecilia Bartoli as Susanna? Where can I get a recording of it?
@luridi Mmm sucede que Figaro no era un conde y su personaje, si ves la ópera completa, es muy libre y picarezco.
@Antillas636 Hi. Just found your comment. I love Hermann Prey and have seen him in this, but you cannot compare his version to the ultimate Figaro - Sir Geraint Evans. Unfortunately I don't think there are any videos, but he was magnificent!
Am I the only one not hearing him sing what the subtitles say?
Renji Mao The aria is in Italian. The subtitles are in Spanish. They are similar, but quite different from each other.
Here is what he is singing:
Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso,
notte e giorno d'intorno girando;
delle belle turbando il riposo
Narcisetto, Adoncino d'amor.
Non più avrai questi bei pennacchini,
quel cappello leggero e galante,
quella chioma, quell'aria brillante,
quel vermiglio donnesco color.
Tra guerrieri, poffar Bacco!
Gran mustacchi, stretto sacco.
Schioppo in spalla, sciabla al fianco,
collo dritto, muso franco,
un gran casco, o un gran turbante,
molto onor, poco contante!
Ed invece del fandango,
una marcia per il fango.
Per montagne, per valloni,
con le nevi e i sollioni.
Al concerto di tromboni,
di bombarde, di cannoni,
che le palle in tutti i tuoni
all'orecchio fan fischiar.
Cherubino alla vittoria:
alla gloria militar!
@LordHettrick Forget the Cherubino part...It still looks like Von Stade...
Kind of reminds me of Tucker, the way he spits every syllable out. Nice though...one of the best Figaro.
I like the tempo my self. Mozart is good when its a little fast.
Mozart brought me here, he was promoting himself XD
(Watch "Don Giovanni" if you don't know what I mean)
Is this from a dvd? I can't find it....
Why is the Cherubino always played by a woman? I never understood that.
Also Bryn pretty much owns this role.
I think so!
In fact there is a persistent rumor that Michael Jackson was in fact a castrati of sorts. The story is that he was given hormones to keep his voice from changing.
Mozart's Mithradate Re di Ponto has a couple castrati parts but that was twenty years earlier than Figaro. Mithradate has essentially no low male voices, no duets, trios, or quartets and no choruses. It is a procession of tenor and soprano arias. It is also six hours long.
Please, can you post something from his Figaro of 1993? Pleaaaaaaaase. Thank you in advance.
Sans doute le meilleur Figaro!
@Megabolter hey! be nice. he wrote three stand alone songs in french!
Don't get me wrong, I think this is a kickass, momentous performance.. but I don't know how I feel about how warm and touchy feely he gets with Cherubino.. most productions portray him being more mock-macho and playful with him.. although, I do like the dryness he's added to the character :)
Cecilia is adorable in this.
A pants role like Cherubino is a young man. Composers did not want a full, mature, manly sound (like we hear with Bryn Terfel) so they wrote these parts for female singers with a bit of a darker sound--a mezzo soprano.
Because the role was originally written for a castrato but there aren't any anymore,so it is sung by a young soprano.
Ένα απόσπασμα από την όπερα του Mozart, Οι Γάμοι του Φίγκαρο με τον Bryn Terfel.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro. Non piu andrai.
@dreamplay007 i think the song is aggressive and requires an aggressive performance
The glory age of castrati was more Handel. Mozart used them in opera seria, but I don't think anyone used castrati in buffa.
@qiuyan88 Italian of course :)
Is that Cecilia Bartoli?
@breakaliciouskid786 yup she is indeed :))
MOZART IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!
Yum
lol poor Bartoli got squashed
It says this is in New York, so I can infer this is the Met, right?
I'm writing about this piece for a class, that's why I ask... :) Thank you!
I got here after Lestat
