Questions:
1. If the ceremonial law of Atonement was nailed to the cross by Jesus, why was it used again by Jesus and the Millerite's, to establish that the day of Atonement had started on October 22, 1844?
2. How can the ceremonial ordinance of Atonement be taken off the cross and then used again in the fall of 1844 without violating its permanent abolishment status by Christ??
This is a gross misunderstanding of the basic rites of the sanctuary.
In the sanctuary service the death of the lamb or atonement sacrifice did not signify the end of the process or the service. The end occurred when the priest has completed His work.
The role of the priest is key to the process.
So Christ had to take on the role of the priest.
That could not have started until he was accepted as priest and brought an offering suitable for Himself. After that He could then start His role as priest.
The atonement services which pointed to the lamb are no longer necessary. The sacrifice was offered now everyone has to wait on the priest.
The priest also had to cleanse the temple. No one's sins were cleared until the sanctuary was cleansed. The day of atonement was also a day of judgement. Hence if we are told when the aspect of judgment was to beging then you must reckon the time given. It was not for the beginning of atonement but the judgmental aspect of atonement.
