2014 Yamaha FZ-09 - Hydroplane accident on the highway. Minimal damage to bike, minimal damage to rider. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Some say that to this day the rider is still sliding!
TheGeordieBiker I feel like I'm in an episode of Top Gear!
hahaha class! Rid3thePiggy
actually the rider is not still sliding. did you even watch what happend after 0:24?
Toxic Seeker665 you must be fun at parties...
Speeding in the rain is not a good idea. Glad you're okay lol
note...
the LAWS OF PHYSICS are strictly enforced during Rainstorms
His crash was due to poor throttle control as opposed to speed.
0 days without incident! (Hope you're ok dude.)
I hope you're ok! Nice slide btw, haha 9/10
Glad you're okay, thanks for sharing as a warning to others. Pretty cool slide!
Just a heads up, "Bike Throttle" on Facebook has taken this video, and plastered their name and website all over it. I was just wondering if you gave them permission to do that.
Can you drop your feet and hydroplane on those too? For stability.
What tires do you had
Hahahaha.... What did you expect was gona happen? well, live and learn.
In high school I rode a unicycle taller then I was, I wore wrist guards and knee pads at first, and when I fell with good momentum, I would land in those pads and slide for days, it was a very fun way to fall. Almost like the vid, but without the obstacle course of cars to worry about.
Aw man is that the FZ-07!?
Sorry that happened. I just totaled my FZ-09. At least you've still got yours :p
I think I know that road ;) Was cringing as I saw that guard rail coming closer!
Glad you're alive tho :)
That was one hell of a long slide.
James Enloe I didn't think it would ever end.
It's amazing how far those 450lbs bikes can slide, isn't it. And yes, I'm speaking from experience. hehe
Philly Drones No kidding! It looked like a glitch in a GTA game or something. Just keeps going...
Not gonna lie the sliding part looked kinda fun! Glad you're ok!
I'd do it again if it didn't break things!
Rid3thePiggy Haha! I would love to slide like that for 100 yards! like you said as long as didn't hurt the bike or anything!
What broke on it to dump oil like that? Did the shifter/brake pedal go through the engine cover?
joshdrobny93 The stator cover cracked when it hit the ground. Dumped a decent amount of oil out. :(
My stomach flipped when I saw the pool of oil. Ride safe, dude.
2qwik4u Thanks man, usually I err on the side of caution but I saw the light and thought I could make it through this storm. Thought wrong.
The oil is the worst part. :(
Always wondering about hydroplaning on my bike. That rain nicely lowered your friction; like a full-body palm slider! 😆 Thank god you didn't get an arm (or neck) stuck in that guard rail...that's my biggest fear about crashing.
What possessed you ride faster then the cars around you in the rain? Following your buddy? Lot's of ppl go down following a friend.
Yikes! At least you weren't wearing shorts, or that slide would have been a loooot more painful. :|
Which riding gear were you using during the accident?
helmet, gloves, boots.
+Rid3thePiggy ohh, i thought you were using some kind of riding pants, you slided perfectly!
It's because you started going faster.. So you started "Aquaplaning" :/
I guess you are a new rider ?
***** Nope, tens of thousands of miles under my belt. Sometimes shit happens, I shouldn't have changed lanes and should have avoided the road groove. Should have, could have, would have though. Took the fall, paid the price (of replacement parts) and walked away from this one.
Rid3thePiggy Live and learn, right?!
+Rid3thePiggy dude.... keep it in B mode on the wet stuff... these triples are touchy bastards.... but god I love mine.... Mine is orange too, and I also ride it in the rain.... in B mode lol. I love the shot of you looking at your bike sliding right next to you... I winced when I saw the railing getting close tho...
Ouch. What happened to the bike? And were you hurt? That was a long ass slide
Spongebob Squarepants Felt like I slid forever!
No damages to myself; bike has a cracked stator cover and a few scrapes on the bar ends / sliders. Very minimal.
Your rear tire doesn't look too suitable for high speed rain riding . Glad to see you were able to walk away from that , could've been really ugly if you got tangled up in the guard rail.
LOL wow you really slid!
How stupid do you have to be to speed on a flooded highway with slick tires......
+Katmandu2 I suppose I should have put on my sticky tires first
+Katmandu2 They didn't look like slicks to me. I don't know what you're talking about. I see Michelin Pilot Power 3's which are decent in the rain
Yea, PP3's, not a fan of them.
Rid3thePiggy Yeah neither am I. I much prefer the Pilot Road series...the Pilot Power's are a shitty compromise between sport and touring.
+Rid3thePiggy try the Pilot Roads. I have the 4s on my Falco and love them. Really good turn in on canyon blasts and excellent wear so far.
Hey I think I see your oil light on at 0:52 bro.
Slide into your dm's like
Going way too fast for the conditions... But I think the main reason for your fall was whatever was on the road surface, oil or petrol.
Gabriel P Nah, I hit a pretty good sized road groove full of standing water and hydroplaned. I could feel it!
Rid3thePiggy Well, shit. Hope you and the bike are fine.
Gabriel P Thanks - we are. I have a few tiny scrapes and my bike has new parts coming in to replace the broken bits. Overall, inexpensive lesson learned.
What was the damage to the bike?
TheFriskyBiker Minimal: cracked case ($70), scrapped up bar end (swapped with original OEM one), broken indicator case (already had aftermarket LED ones on order, $15), bent rearset bracket ($35).
Rid3thePiggy WTF, i dropped my Ninja 250 turning in to a parking space and it did nearly $1000 in damage. Fairings are outrageously expensive.
TheResidentSkeptic ha ha I'm pretty sure the water was the cause and solution to that wreck.
Rid3thePiggy Ice in my case.
TheResidentSkeptic ah hard water. Gotta stick to the soft stuff!!
В дождик все плавно нужно делать, иначе влегкую можно так сквозануть по асфальту, пилоту повезло что какой нибудь четырехколесный его не переехал
You are a fucking bad ass.
For crashing on a motorcycle and standing up after like a man. If that was you, you would be crying on the ground with piss soaked undies.
+Maolese you, I like you.
Maolese Why did you delete my other comments ? lol
Gandalf m8 What the fuck you talking bout? I can't delete your comments
Maolese You posted the original comment, you can delete any comments posted on yours.
It wasn't changing the lines, or the accelerating (not that is a good idea anyway) the prob came from that "dance" you did ;) I've ride with 160 km/h in rain and it's all okay if you just keep your bike straight ;)
+userisonline THIS! this is what I was thinking. shouldn't start sweeping to the left & right, especially when speeding up. asking for trouble in this weather.
Cant fuck around with the FZ-09, they are not forgiving bikes. I know, because i HAVE ONE.
***** There's a lot of fuckin' around with the 9er but those videos usually stay private. ;)
راح في رجلها
Omgggggg
Mary Lee it's all good! Bike is running again and I had no injuries. :D
Rid3thePiggy as long as you're OK! That was scary watching the clip. The bike slid for awhile. Seems like you lost control in the middle of the lane... Where all the oil is
Mary Lee nah, it was the standing water - the roads here have deep ruts where people ride their cars with studs. stupid studded tires.
bike slid forever! It was like watching a glitch in GTA or something.
Don't open the throttle all the way in the rain, no sympathy. Not to mention it started with dick for brains here tailgating, I can guarantee the video was way clearer than what he could see considering idk of any helmets with windshield wipers and if he didn't have a pinlock probably fogged all up. Riding in the rain isnt that difficult if you respect the machine that you're tagging along with. My R1 with stock pirelli tires took on a tropical storm in triple digits and handled it way better than I could have predicted
Thanks for the armchair analysis!
This is why the rest of us are paying so much to insure our fz09's.
Jeffrey Baker No, it's not. I didn't report this to insurance. Nice try though!
