  • My previous video has been deprecated as it could cause issues with the means of upgrading I showed there.
    In this video, we'll show you the RIGHT way to upgrade Emulation Station DE on any Windows device including a WinPC, Ally and Go (and everything else that uses Windows :D )
    For Steam Deck users, this update can be done automatically within Emulation Station.
    Note: This videos is designed to update ES-DE that was installed by EmuDeck - not a stand alone or other type of install. The information may be useful still, but it is targeted to EmuDeck Windows.

    How about the ROG Ally? I got the 3.0.0 but the readme instructions are very difficult to follow. Would it be easier just to uninstall Emulation Station and just install it again as the new update? I have no idea why this developer didn't just make an update EXE like literally everyone else out there.

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  Před 4 měsíci

      This was a major update - the minor updates don't seem to suffer from this.

      @@Darkuni I just don't understand how to install this "over" the main install, and making one ES-DE "OLD" and then copying different folders from one place to the other. It's all very confusing to me. It would be MUCH easier if the developer included an EXE that would automatically do this, like every other developer. Also, they never included an uninstall file so I have no idea how to fully uninstall it.

    How does this update work if I have ROMs installed to a different drive? Emudeck puts files under C:Users/Name/Emudeck and I have Roms, Bios, Saves, storage, tools under G:Emulation.

      You shouldn't have to. Just use EmuDeck to update ESDE.

    Well, I followed this video to a tee and I get the dialogue that I "copied over everything" and I "shouldn't have done that" and now ES is not working at all. Even though I did EXACTLY what this guys said. So now I am going to move the OLD folder back to that directory, delete the NEW garbage 3.0.1 download, and just stay on 2.2.1 until the developer learns how to code properly. They don't even give you a way to uninstall this software. Ridiculous!
    Now I have to move all my games and such to another hard drive, reset my Ally to factory, and do this all over again. But this time I will NOT be using emujunk or emulationgarbage but will be using the actual emulators instead. This whole process has been an utter nightmare!

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately, this is a bad time to be involved with EmuDeck in general. There was the YUZU thing which forced an unfinished build to be released (causing tons of issues) and Emulation Station released a major build point review (that had some of its own issues - and more issues when used in conjunction with EmuDeck).
      EmuDeck's power isn't nearly as useful on a Windows machine as it is on a Steam Deck. Not even sure why they ported it, honestly...

    • @Introversitive
      @Introversitive Před 3 měsíci

      @@Darkuni Do you have any idea how to uninstall Emulation Station? I uninstalled Emudeck already, even though it is still showing for some reason. I am thinking of using Launchbox instead. I'll install it and if I like it I will buy the lifetime version. I am hearing nothing but great things about it, but was wondering what your opinion on it is. I am new to handhelds and know there are several programs like Launchbox and Emulation Station, just not sure which one I should use for ease of use. Someone suggested I just download each emulator individually but I love the UI of front ends. It makes the games look so much better than a plain list on the emulators.

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@Introversitive Should just be nuking the ES-DE folder and removing the AppImage. Launchbox is "ok" ... I've done a couple of videos on it - own a lifetime license .. but I don't care for it overall. I didn't find it "easy to use" - my first outing with it was a complete disaster (hence why I made videos). I use ES-DE everywhere - on handhelds, on Raspberry Pis, on my Desktop. Just works the way I want.
      EmuDeck is far more than just an install script. It handles all the complicated control mapping on the Deck - which could save you literally HOURS of work on your own.

    • @Introversitive
      @Introversitive Před 3 měsíci

      @@Darkuni I'm technical, but not that technical. I was wondering what you mean by nuking the ES-DE folder and removing the Appimage? Also, I uninstalled Emudeck but ES-DE is working fine without it. What I plan on doing is deleting ES-DE completely, reinstall Emudeck and ES-DE to the newest versions of these programs and thus have a clean install. My roms and such are in a folder apart from Emudeck and ES-DE, so I don't have to worry about losing those, I just want to install this thing clean and I will be doing this for every update to ES-DE until the developer learns how to make EXE update files like everyone else. lol :)

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  Před 3 měsíci

      @@Introversitive How did you install ES-DE? Via EmuDeck? If you installed it stand alone, then you should be able to uninstall it like any other program. If EmuDeck installed it? It SHOULD have removed it. However, if it didn't? Installing "over top" should be fine. I don't have a system currently in front of me to decode further where the files are stored. As for the replacement EXE, it really isn't that easy (sometimes) when you go between major builds. And ES-DE isn't natively created for Windows - it is Linux based - you just get to use a port of it :D
