The next video will be longer and jam packed with stops/history neat stuff! Thank you all!
loving the fact that you took your son along for the ride. Those priceless moments are ones that you and he will never forget!
Awesome, hello from Cananada!!
This long-trip-video-with-an-offspring-involved resonates a lot!
There was one time a feller travelled from London to Scotland and then back the way in an old Citreon (yuck!) CX, with a 1 year-old boy. Well I tells yah, that ol' car managed just fine up to Scotland, but on the way back it just kept losing the old ice cube fluid and I ain't kidding yah.
Multiple stops along the way back South.
But we managed it, us both. Was a long day and a long night back to base. Was proud of the young feller and how much he coped with that adventure I tells yah.
Go to pops if your still in arcadia man!
I don't know who's idea it was to combine a road trip with a repair video.....yours I guess. But it's great. Thank you. I hope the little guy is having a good time.
It's not an adventure until something goes wrong! Bentley will be carrying these memories long after you're gone.
so true!
Truth!
He'll be telling these stories to his own.
And that's truly but it's all about
Precisely!
Hensley Transmission in Bella Vista, AR........YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!! Thanks for Taking care of Derek and BENTLEY!!!! You all are Good Fellers!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US!!!!!
I never tire of hearing the “technical terms “ for things on this channel. Thank you for including us in your life this way. I can only speak for myself but I’ve learned a number of tricks watching this channel. Hope to meet you in person sometime.
Once you can tell your charger-whirler from your lightning-whirler and a fuel make-it-happener from a fuel pumperlater, you're good.
So have I . and I've been a car guy like forever .
My colleagues think I'm nuts using the same terminology 😂.
@@professornuke7562 😂
Don't forget the lightning cube! Ain't going nowhere without one of those
That was cool how the Automatic transmission people helped
you out with rebuilding the tranny and what they did, a shout out to
them and the guy who gave you the ATF when your's all leaked out.
Keeping it real
No matter how well or badly this trip goes, your young fella will never forget the trip he did with his dad. More power to your arm, it’s a great thing you do.
I recently took my 6 y/o boy on a 1600 mile trip in my work semi truck. I know he made memories he will keep forever
You have to love and appreciate the blue-collar camaraderie that is ever-present in the U.S. People taken care of people when they need a little help gitten down the road.
my dad just passed and always drove them square bodys, always wanted one!
Kudos to your son for being so patient. My daughter, at 10, would have been a mess of emotions dealing with all that uncertainty.
Shoot, I'm 23 and I'd be a mess!
Yea, i just said " Its funny watching your son patiently moseying around in the background as you do your updates, lol. Have fun! "
@Fred Melchor,
Yeah, because she's a female.
Yeah but when your old man is pretty unflappable you soon pick that attitude up!
3:30 in the morning, not a sole in sight....the City's looking like a ghost town on a moonless summer night.
-Garth Brooks
Spending time is way cool. but teaching our young how to properly square up and handle setbacks is priceless!
Dude, when you have the skills, mechanical aptitude, outlook and optimism that you do, all of life is a silver lining. With what you do, and how you do it, ....even when things go awry, ...it all becomes just part of the adventure. It makes it a heck of a lot easier to deal with when, if things go south, youre still actually making some good content out of it. ...and hopefully a few pesos as well. Enjoy this trip with your boy Derek, these are the times he'll always look back on with fondness!
Nothing better than coming home after a day of cussing and sweating to a cold beer and a vice grip video! God bless you sir you keep a lot of us sane during the weekly grind! Cheers To VGG and LGG
I am retired, but I hear ya. A couple of brewskie's and Derrick, can really make one mellow. Maybe more to do with the beer, but still Derrick is the father I wish I had, had. At 65, I would almost give anything to hang with him for a while...
Anything but my beer, am I right?
Hell yes. I fell ya man.

Good lord you're the pinnacle of patience and perseverance, way to be a good example
Inspiring all of us
Thank you for sharing this with us. Makes a fella(Ette) feel special. 😊
Went on some trips like this with my Grandpa in his 72 Dodge p/u and in his square body Chevy. Big 10. Slept in the back at truck stops and in cheap motels. Loved every mile. He could fix anything. I sure miss him.
Thanks Derek and Bentley for taking the time to entertain us with such great educating content..
12:53...that Mustang is my eldest son's Mustang 2 + 2. He was having to have a new engine put in it. We knew the transmission had problems too. I am glad my son is fimally getting his transmission fixed. He actually inherited the Mustang from his Grandmother.
gorgeous car!
What year is it ?
How fun is that! Some kids dad take them fishing, but riding around in the dark wondering if your going to live with you dad is so much more fun! 🤣
Always a good sign when the camera shows signs going by. I don’t throw my old accessories belts away, I put them behind the seat for a time of need.
When life gives ya lemons make ATF! Adapt and overcome! Making this a memorable trip, for sure!
With age we all dry up and leak a little.
Keep on truckin!
I admit nothing lol 🤣
A fella has been waiting patiently. Well worth it as usual.
I really miss going on adventures with my Dad and his old Ferd. You bring back something i had lost.
I’ve spent a lot of time overseas and dreamed of and missed road-trips in the good ol USA since driving is my passion and road-trips are one of my favorite things to do. I got my fix by watching VGG and now I’m back. I got stationed on OK and ironically live in Yukon. Love the channel, it’s as American as you can get. 💯💯💯🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
There is true wisdom in a positive attitude. The normal person would have melted down, but you say how beautiful the day is and view everything as an opportunity instead of an obstacle. Do you ever just lose your shit when nobody's looking?
I've never been one to enjoy seeing other people suffer, but there's some solidarity in watching a fella go through tribulations you've been through before. Glad you're making the best of it. We're there with you in spirit.
I agree. As a father of younger kids (5 and 10), watching Derek go through these obstacles and still maintain his positive disposition and persistence are commendable. Even though he is only a couple of years older than me, it's like he helps me grow as a father and man for myself, and especially my family. He's a pretty stand out fella.
Narwhal, that was a very thoughtful and kind testimony. I'm sure we all have flying vice grip pliers as we pull our hair out trying to make our junk get running, but as you said, Derrick has given us a new look at it, that a feller will be okay, and for me at 64, I can now say I trust God's plan, I just gotta read on It.
Who needs a Netflix series when youve got Vice grip to watch - next episode please
Set backs and all you get to spend all this one on one time with the little man. I remember those trips with my 2 boys. Thanks for a bonus recording
Fellers, we just flushed the transmission!
Twice.
So that's good.
Man, I could only hope to give my son the experiences you give your son. You’re a awesome father man. Great to see you guys so happy! Love your videos brother.
Just do what you can; you don't need a huge budget to give kids stuff they'll always remember and cherish. Take 'em camping, blow up some cans of baked beans in the fire, show them how not to light a bonfire with gasoline... go for it!
Its funny watching your son patiently moseying around in the background as you do your updates, lol. Have fun!
That truck is like every car/truck I've owned. I'm always thankful when I make it somewhere without my vehicle falling apart.
Making memories with the lil man ain’t nothing better, god bless u guys in all ur travels and keep the great content comin 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love the way Derek is totally unfazed by anything that truck throws at him. Even with the little guy as co-pilot the atmosphere is calm. Great video as always. Hanging in to the end!
you do realize soon Bentley will be saying "hold my beverage Dad I got this"
@@jhonditch4269 "Hold my Sprite pops, I'll have this fixed in an hour, tops." I bet Bentley will say that one day
What's getting flustered do honestly? You might as well make the best of a bad situation.
What a lucky little man you have with you to do this adventure with his dad.
GOD BLESS AND PUT YOUR NOSE IN THE WIND
Favorite line in this one....don’t wanna get too close, it’s shiny.
You haven't made a road trip until you've made one in an old beater and have numerous breakdowns. It really makes for a memorable experience. It's amazing how far some complete strangers will go to help you when you're broken down 1500 miles (or any long distance) from home. If you know, you know....
I remember my 1,100 miles, one way trip in my old 94 GMC suburban Silverado. It was a good trip, between hoses blowing out, and running out of gas, in the middle of nowhere, on i70 in Kansas.
True
I have had a few of those trips
But most of my stuff are beaters
Me too did it in a Mk2 Escort two flats and nearly ran out of fuel. Oh those were the days before you had a job lol
@@coyboybc I've never owned a newer model vehicle. I currently own a 01 Camry with over 400k miles on the odometer, and it costed me 500, from pull a part and I own a 78 Ford F100, i did a days of laying concrete, and it was my payment. I couldn't imagine driving something else lol. I wouldn't know what to do
It's way too dangerous
This reminds of when i got to stay with my dad in Utah, and he wanted to take me the scenic route, I enjoyed it so much. I was about 13 or so. Its great memories. My dads been gone since 93, His Grandson was only 1. Neither of my babies got to know grandpa. But I hope to never forget those moments. Thanks Dereck, what an awesome Fella.
Love it. Guarantee those will be cherished childhood memories for the Mini-me. Everyone should do a "no idea if I can make this"; and - once you do it once, you knwo anything is possible.
- Living - the American dream! That is adventure. Your kid will remember this forever. Thanks for the videos.
A trip your little human will never forget. Good on you Derick. Remember trips with my Dad on the Columbia River Gorge in an old 52 5 window in the 50's. Memories my friend cause at the end thats all we got
Did you mean a '32 5 window?
It sucks breaking down but your little guy will never forget this trip. I went on some trips with my old man and we had some flats and issues and I still think those were the best trips.
not only that but he most likely learned what to do on a road trip when things goes south...
I know you get this alot man. But you're a good dude. There's a lot of people who didn't have that growing up. I just wanna say thank you keep it up
That's why people gravitate to you Derek because your always finding those silver linings!👍😎
It’s gotta be over 3 years I’ve been watching this channel and I still can’t wait for the next episode. I loved it from the beginning and even more now
“City’s looking like a ghost town on a moonlit summer night” got Garth brooks singing in my head straight off the intro now 👌
You're making lifelong memories with your little person, good on you!
So awesome you came within 35 miles from me im location in Greenland right outside of Fayetteville AR! Love the content man! And I love that your doing it with you boy! Keep up being a good dad and he’ll remember it for life!
Yessssiiirrrr keep em coming, sometimes a guy just well, he can't get enough vice grips!
I anxiously awaited day 2. When I looked up little Talladega after day 1 I discovered it was 10 minutes from my home. I did not know it existed. You drove right past my house and shredded the belt by the weight scales outside of town. Love the content always. I have three young boys of my own and a mini me that wants to be right there anytime I’m working on something.
He drove by my house on the AMC video in Ga
Awesome to get a little assist from the folks!! That Trans shop in AR is fantastic. Glad you got the old lady fixed and rolling again.
I'm starting to think Bentley is the star. The kid is so cool and laid back in the video's. Enjoy Route 66 it is a fun ride.
Life is like a good set of headlights. Both have their highs and lows.
Very well put! 🤘🏽😎🔧🏁
He littlest human is such a trooper, Mr. VG the world needs So many more men like yourself at 67 years old a guy is still inspired to be a better human by a feller like you. God Bless and Safe Keepings on your travels sir and little sir.
Not a better feeling that cruising with your son for a few days, A blessing for sure.
I think it is so Awesome that Bentley is there with you to share this adventure with you
Silver linings. Nailed it. That's what got me through cancer treatment a couple times. Love seeing you take one of your kids! My daughter works with me restoring cars. Good times 😊✌️
Silver linings huh? I'm sure there's alot of those to my life, I need to pay more attention
@@Mr.Safety. you woke up, right? There's one every day! Then, try to make this day better than yesterday. Repeat ✌️
This country was built by people like you Derek and those who helped you out today.. God bless the lot of ya
Thanks
It is great when you can find capable & willing people to help out in a jam.
Big shout out to Hensley Transmission! Thank you for keeping VGG on the road.
Bentley has the same haircut I wanted in 7th grade…. 1986. It all comes back around.
This brought back memories! I did the "lose a hose clamp and dump all the ATF, replace the clamp, drive 3 miles, loose the clamp at the other end of the hose and dump it all again" thing on a 79 CJ7 a few years back. I feel you.... You seem to have handled it WAY better than I did. Looking forward to seeing more of this trip!
This is why I love VGG.....common folk....have issues and work through them. This channel isn't about spending the most money to be cool like most others. Derek seems like the type of guy that understands sh!t sucks sometimes and you just keep plugging away.
It was the trailer jockey wheel for me. Last seen on the mudguard - never seen again. Never forgotten again.
5:28 I think the only silver lining was in that transmission pan lol. Love the videos dude. Hope to see the 56 Buick again one day
Love your positive attitude even when things don't go as planned. Great lessons for your son too. Looking forward to the next video, keep up the good work!
Thanks - next vid much longer!
Awesome! Creating great memories for you and the kid..
Here in Arizona, we'd just stop off at Oatman and grab a couple of wild Donkey's and head on down the road...
I have no idea how he keeps his cool. It’s impressive. I might be throwing out every swear word possible when I get frustrated but he just keeps his cool. Admirable. Godspeed Derrick 🇺🇸
He may have done all that before getting on the camera!!
Nobody wants to watch a guy flipping out all the time
how could ya making 10k or so a video
Your ability to stay positive is motivation for me... I tend to throw a shitfit when things go south. I will take a page from your book on my next adventure!
It's simple really, just always plan for shit to go south extremely, therefore when something does happen it doesn't bother you that much cause you knew it would/could happen. Also always fit as many tools and full size jack etc as your truck or car trunk can handle so you're physically prepared as well lol
Derek you have such an incredible amount of knowledge of these old vehicles. You also always have a good attitude with every speed bump you encounter.
Derek you are a bright spot in a gloomy day. Your trip with the little human jars the old memory box back to my Army days and going on leave prior to going to Italy. We had to move all our stuff from Savannah, GA to Ruthton, MN with a 71 Plymouth Sattelite 383 variety pulling a UHAUL with all our belongings and my Norton motorcycle. We broke down in the middle of nowhere in Iowa and thankfully had the bike to go the 17 miles to get what we needed. My wife and year old daughter stayed with the car. That was in October of 81.
Respect to little man! Bentley is chill as a Champ!
i know your son is like "damn dad, we couldn't have done a 66 trip in something more reliable" lmaoooo, i guess that's the good thing about having a dad, can always do another one. My dad passed when i was 2, so i watch videos like these and can imagine how awesome it must be.
Don't forget, he has been watching dad deal fine with all these type of things his entire life.
yeah my dad passed away recently and i dont got a son of my own. im living vicariously thought vgg also. warms my heart seeing all this father son bonding.
What a trip. And Bentley is a trooper. Massive days for the little fella. bloody Awesome!
I laughed so hard when you mentioned running 50 in second. Reminded me of my days in my 97 4.6 Cougar that lost 3 & 4, drove that thing everywhere at 3750 Rpms, it was the best I could afford at the time but it never let me down. God bless the 4.6 modular
Indeed, God indeed BLESSED you with that salty cougar....that...that.. wretched CATAMOUNT!
Amazing How He can take FAILURES AND SHAPE THEM INTO FRUITFULL DESTINIES and SUNSHINE FOREVER.
AMEN.
Only 17 minutes. This is practically a CZcams short compared to the usual glorious two hour runs.
No complaints, you have work to do.
your son is soooo lucky to have YOU for a dad , i'm sure he will remember this forever !!!!!!!!!!!!! almost makes me jealous !!!!!!
one thing for sure you are making memories that will last a lifetime
Best thing on the you of tubes. Thank you Derek.
Another great video from VGG. Thanks
My father always talked about his trips down along route 66, always wanted to take him on it again but he passed away, time is short and you and Bentley are making the most of it. Love this
Your one hell of a guy, your boy will be telling this story to his grandkids one day. What a way to make memories! Safe travels
That young fella is very lucky to have you as a dad. Your definitely his hero and that’s awesome. Take care and god bless.
The haircut the little human you're responsible for has is awesome. The lines in the sideburns, those are sharp!
Man I wish I knew when you were in Oklahoma...I would have come by and signed an autograph for you and little man 😂😂😎
When the sun's going down and into night is my favorite times for cruising!
Here is you a great silver lining of all this trouble regardless of what the rest of this trip throws at you on this journey your making some great memories with Bentley that he'll never forget hats off too you friend
what a guy woulda done for a trip like this with his pops. Bentley will look back on this with a full heart
Yep, he'll be telling his kids someday "you know, dad and I took a road trip, just the two of us, one time.........."'
Youve heard of "Death by a thousand cuts"? This series seems to be "Trip of a thousand parts."
By the time it hits auction it will be rotisserie restored
Man you cannot put a price on memories ,,and you and your son are making some great ones....
Driving through New Hampshire many years ago when the automatic in my f350 27’ motor home started giving me trouble. I nursed it along until I made it to a toll booth in Portland Maine when the forward gears gave up; but I still had reverse gear. The toll booth attendant gave me directions to a transmission shop which I made it to by driving from the highway, through Portland and eventually to the shop. With the four ways flashing, I backed up using my mirrors and getting directions from my 12 year old son looking out the rear window. Good times
Haha I just told my wife that Derek hasn't posted yet. She said who is Derek I was like VICE GRIP GARAGE! A guy cant get enough
Its trips like these that your son will remember. I feel like I'm reliving my childhood just watching this. still remember pulling over and having my dad whip out the giant map book throw it on the hood and try to figure out where we are.
Those where the days... when you had to take a sextant on a road trip 😛
It's pretty cool to see you and your boy on this road trip through my neck of the woods. I've lived my whole life all over Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas.
The example you are setting for your kids is amazing. Frankly, for all of us. Some day your son will tell his kids about this trip with a smile. Love the videos. Keep up the good work!
As someone who doesn't get to travel as much as I used to, it's great to tag along virtually with you and your son as you navigate across Route 66!
It feels like a Saturday morning waking up to a VGG video 😁
The length of the video isnt as important as the awesome content, you and Bentley are living the dream even if it doesnt feel that way at 3am in the dark..
Keep it up sir 👌
Boy that view down the hood reminds me of so many trips with pops I'm the square body blazer going to get some sort of project... Thank you for everything you do.
WOW! Sorry for all your troubles with the Big Block Square Body, but you will make it work Derek, along with your side kick Bentley! Stay safe guys.
