- Mike Jones Aircraft has enjoyed big success with the Lock & Key Navajo refurbishment program and is now expanding the concept to other models. It was showing off its latest Beech Baron B58 Lock & Key refurbishment at Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland, Florida, and Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano took a look at it with company founder Mike Jones.

I want a Lock and Key Ercoupe.
Haha your comment literally came out of nowhere, but I want Lock and Key Ercoupe too!
Thanks for the laugh! 🤓
It's awesome but the price is bumping up against a new one.
This ☝️
For certain aircraft you can (or could, I believe the market if softening) ask near new for a decade-old example, due to the long waiting list for factory-fresh examples.
New barons are 2m
@@MrPopples72843 less. Around $1.6
@@benclammer945 still crazy, when you think about it. „General“ aviation is becoming a playground solely for the super rich.
Beautiful restoration. My one ding would be all of the Lock & Key logos outside and inside. Maybe just did that for the SnF show, but having it on the yokes, arm rest end caps, and elsewhere was just too much for me. Could be more subtle about it.
If you are paying your probably can not have them installed
Thank you for the opportunity to share what we do!
Mr. Jones, do you have a youtube channel for your projects?
@@onethousandtwonortheast8848 We just have one main CZcams channel.
here’s our most recent one on this Baron.

Great work!
Take a look at rebuild rescue... he is restoring a C401(?) that was abandoned for like 20 years on the ramp. It is a fast growing youtube channel and it seems like he is doing good with it.
czcams.com/channels/HfRIHdzsY3IhZtPjtx7yiQ.html Also Lock and Key does have a channel.... found it.
Thank you Mike Jones
Stunning!
I want a Lock. & Key Duke!!!
Yup. With PT6As.
Impressive! 😍
Is the L & K better than a G-58 production line roll-off? The net cost seems to be about equal.
wow nice!! commin lotto, or powerball!!! :) pappa wants a new old plane!
Wow what an impressive interior
you mean the trim piece in the back that was either misaligned or hanging off? or all the dust around the breakers? or the old looking interior trim? Seems like a newer looking AirMod interior would be standard on bring a plane "up" to modern standards vs. old design.
Nice
1.1 is a hell of a lot less than 2 million for a brand new baron that’s no better.
Did they refurb the ease of Vmc rollover / lack of tail authority?
I'm low key high key lock and key a believer in building new rather than spend 1.1million for a 1960 plane with similar mileage to a modern light twin jet going twice as fast
We badly need a bonanza/baron replacement that's pressurized, 300kg empty and has twin jet engines. The contrast would be staggering.
Sweet airplane.
I wish I had money.
I hear ya! 😉💔✌️👍😊

If you can afford almost $1mil for this redone B58, you can probably afford a new DA62.
Not when it’s broken all the time, I guess that’s be warranty though for a few years.
Know an owner of a new DA62, first week out of the factory it needed a new wing. Now, less than 6 months it’s getting a whole new engine.
@@TheReadBaron91 Do you have more than one example?
I wonder what thus restoration would look like on a cessna 150 or 172
that is an insane amount of money. let someone else do it, then buy one in a few years after it's depreciated a bit.
Question is, if they will ever depreciate? Looking at the used plane market of the past few years…
Love what they do but yet another rich man thing in GA. Updating old GA aircraft is a great thing just comes with price tag of Diamond twin
Stunning! I think I'll order three!🤔😳😳🙄😭😄😄🤣😇✌️👍💔✌️👍
Could you lock and key the Diamond DA62?
I really don't think most Diamond's need this treatment.
There are few STCs for the DA-62. Kind of limits what you can do. I don't even think you can change the seats. Forget avionics, engine or structural. I guess you could probably add the dash hula dancer - but only on a suction cup base - if you want to personalize.
He likes to say aircraft

AIRCRAFT
@@MikeJonesAircraft I'm gonna get to see that beauty tomorrow!
If you got that kind of money you can buy a 2018 with the G1000 nxi for $1,395,000.
Kinda dirty around the circuit breakers.
Great idea, but I'm just bothered by the wrinkled skin on the nose of this particular Baron. I'm a career structures & sheet metal guy, so I know perfection is very difficult in this area, but it just bothers me for what I think this restoration costs. I may elect to have skin like that replaced, but I'm a bit OCD when it comes to airplanes I fly and especially one that I would put this kind of money into.
This aircraft will be President in about 40 years.
No it won’t
@@adrianmadden7329 Yes it will
@@adrianmadden7329you’re right, my Baron will, Baron Trump
I’d rather have the Lock and Key Piper Navajo Panther
1.1 million yeah, give me 10 minutes to go dig that up in my backyard. Just like a car or a pickup and even homes pricing is through the roof. Forever in debt.
Nice plane but who in their right mind would do this? The only possible way this makes sense is if they buy the AC and you buy it with the work done. Otherwise you'd be way better off just getting a G58 for that price or save yourself a bunch of cash and get other people to do the upgrades. That panel is 180k tops, engines are 120k and the most expensive interior you can get would top out at 50k. Paint would top out at 30k or so. You can do all of that work for 400k so why on earth are they charging 800k and who is the customer?
Ok, so it has new paint, fancy upholstery, average avionics, and let’s face it, a lame name. Just don’t see the hype.
With all due respect…..the glass cockpits are pretty distasteful and bland. Much rather have more steam guages with a screen or two if necessary. I would only put a engine monitor screen in mine.
It sounds pretty bespoke, so you could customize it. Probably bring it under $1M with fewer/cheaper add ons.
Ya, I think I would always want old reliable gauges in anything I'd fly. Electrical failure is a thing.
Wouldn't say no to throwing a screen or two in, but always have gauges available as a backup.
