Hi, I'm Dean Wolfe, Canadian classic prog rock guitar teacher on CZcams. I grew up on classic 70s prog but abandoned it in the late 80s. Prog seemed dead and my orig. prog band was told by labels we were too prog. So i went onto grunge, pop, then folk, then strictly acoustic solo guitar etc...staying loyal to my staples like Yes and Rush, BUT 2020 was the year of my return to prog and the discovery that SO much great prog went on that I'd totally missed out on. So join me as I catch up on 30 years of prog!
In this video I react to After The Flood by Talk Talk from Laughing Stock.

I started my concert-going in the early 00s. The people directly in front of the stage danced the most. The energy of the crowd up there couldn't be beat!! At my age now, I don't really go up there anymore because it's extra loud, but also I get a little more irritated by people bumping into me and having no regard 😅 So I'm further back and can see a greater view of the crowds. I am frequently disappointed by the lack of movement.
pretty sure the "machine" as you put it is a variophone i believe
you are talking of the great Mark Hollis!!
Mark Hollis!!
I get a sense of rain with this song. Reminds me of The Doors, Riders on the Storm. I think it fits the name also.
Sometimes i think the whole album is about various ways of interacting with God or higher powers. Without spoiling to much, there is one track on the album in which it feels as if a dissatisfied God is angrily surveying how humanity has effed up their stewardship of his creation.
Not particular religious, but this music is of a different sort, and it takes me wondrous and weird places ;)
This is like a cross between Chill Out Lounge, Kid A, and Peter Gabriel's "Salisbury Hill". I feel... indifferent about all three of those things, but somehow they combine in just the right amounts in this song to achieve something spectacular! The feeling I got was more like ice melting, water dripping. Loved it!!!🏔️❄️💧
For the Progressive Wolfe Pack merch you could use a silhouette logo of the evolution of man, only make it the evolution from a wolf to a man into a werewolf. 🐺 A werewolf wearing headphones! Maybe purple grey and blue tie-die background? I'd buy pillow cases, and a T! 😉
And I'm a mover and a shaker, too- I headbang at the symphony. Haha!
Thanks for introducing me to this fine album! 💕
Love your ideas!
@@deanwolfechannel Thanks! I wish I could post pictures, I'd sketch it up for ya. But I'm sure your bro will come up with something cool! Can't wait to see it. 😃
Will you do any Sharky merch? That'd be cool to see, too. 🦈🎧
Patreon with members access to a discord or track requests could be a great way to monetize and grow the community :)
I just heard patreon may be in serious trouble, maybe even belly up. Cool suggestions tho
Dean Wolfe hmm, setting up a members website of sorts could still be a good idea. my understanding is that you can set up subscription and membership based systems via paypal
It wasnt the machine. It was broken instrument. There is just pure genius no machines. Wasted few minutes of life here by ignorance. You should listen coco jumbo not yet Talk Talk or Mark Hollis.
Album seems to be still building but it is very ambient and a little formless and crying out for at least a short melodic and more structured sequence which they are perfectly capable of and showed in spades in earlier albums. The TT sound is excellent as ever but the question is, will the album continue to build to something more? or will it continue in this vain which is interesting but could get a little dull across a whole album.
I guess we will find out ( seriously having to resist just downloading it and finding out for myself which but I will stick with you)
Cool, I'm just pushing the videos as soon as I edit them, did album in one sitting...
Dull? I think it's as lively as can be, the ambiance is very colourful and lively. I do not think it is dull in anyway
I've found the truth on 20 May 2020 - If you are happy with 30 more mins of the same thats cool but I need a bit more if this is become a regular on my playlist.
@@scifimonkey3 It is not the same by any means, it's just subtle differences. Eitherway, if they completely changed sound every song or something, or maybe halfway the album, it would be completely out of place. The album is like a beautiful mellow serene warm landscape
I've found the truth on 20 May 2020 I guess Id prefer the odd mountain amongst the gently rolling hills - but each to their own
