  • 120fps stabilized footage of the Falcon 9 Launch from June 18 2024.
I've also synced up the live feed with the footage so you can see each stage.
The entire launch was hand tracked on a tripod with a focal length of 1200mm on a Sony A7C.

Thanks for adding the other live footage, too. Quite a treat to look back and forth.

Great video! Incredible when you can see so clearly just how much mass is contained within, and released by, those seemingly little rockets.

I was wondering if the booster was EVER going to land....
I have watched literally hundreds of launches.
I never realized the first stage would continue, with no thrust, following the second stage for so long while it was at full thrust.....
And of course to put an even finer point on that...... The fairing halves were keeping up with the second stage even.
I can't tell which is more surprising to me....
That the fairing can keep up or that the second stage doesn't have more power to pull away.
I know there is virtually no atmosphere at that altitude and that's why the fairings take so long to slow down.
But I figured the second stage would literally rocket away at a substantial speed for the exact same reason.
It almost seems like the second stage burn would be unnecessary if it can't pull away from the fairing.
How far away are you from the launch?
How much or the sky did you pan across to get 18 minutes of footage?
If you had someone else to keep track of the first stage, could you have followed it back to its landing?
I have the perfect scope/tracking mount if you want to partner up and try to catch the whole thing sometime....

3:00 to 5:20 - why is that UFO, sticking itself in and out of the rockets trail of ejecta vapour?

Its the main booster stage, its not a UFO
