Thank you for sharing this and I will listen to more on your site. My brother recently passed away and a friend shared this on his site. My dad gave me a Choctaw hymnal and New Testament 50+ years ago and through the more recent years my brother was learned many Choctaw phrases. I thought it would be too hard to try to learn the lang but recently thought I could learn some hymns and remember them better as I still remember the words to songs I learned when taking Spanish in the 70's. Then I hear my second cousin sings a beautiful rendition of the Lord's Prayer in Choctaw I recently reconnected with. I am ready to embrace more of my roots and Choctaw heritage in this way. Thankful for our tribe and those who are keeping our ancestors traditions alive and making new ones for our people.

Some of the greatest hymn singing I've ever heard. Is it sung in the shape note tradition, or by memory?

Songs are handed down by memory. Why recordings are important as most of us are dying out that remember.
