- The deputies of the Republic of Niger unanimously adopted this Thursday, June 22, 2023 the new national anthem of the country entitled "L'honneur de la Patrie".
It thus replaces the old national anthem "La Nigerienne" which had been in force since 1961, one year after the proclamation of the independence of Niger.
Observations and criticism of the Grand Master of the Anthems KW30:
To begin with, it is a great shame that the Original National Anthem has been eliminated, since it was one of the best on the African continent, both in its lyrics and in its music. As for this new national anthem, I consider it yet another disappointment after the creation of the South Sudan anthem and the change of Mauritania. Its rhythm is based on an old song well known to all Nigeriens ( • Anthem of IPSP-Practic... ). The music is simple, based on military african fanfares that rise and fall but with a percussion that gives it a marching procession movement, it would be perfect if used as a military parade march for example.
Its harmony is simple, there are not many low octaves, although there is a drum that marks each measure, but it is not developed by the creator.

"La Nigérienne" was better tbh, this anthem sounds very Chinese/oriental and repetitive.
Also, the reason they change it because the lyrics from the old anthem was related to colonialism. Kinda weird since changing the lyrics and keep the song would be a simpler job to do.
Indeed, for those who listen to it for the first time, they think it is a Maoist march from China. Niger is going through a strong political crisis.

This is actually used by Humburg for their national anthem in 2024 to replace their old anthem
Also, the reason why they changed it is because the lyrics from the old anthem was related to racism. The tune was also used for Mauritania's anthem.
