Where were these types of guitars when I was a kid. Playable, they stay in tune, they look cool and they are cheap ! My first guitar was from the Sears catalog it was a sunburst single pickup with the action about an inch of the fretboard. I was happy to have it at least it was a start.
I couldn’t afford a Fender thin line - so I took a chance and bought the Glarry version. Mine is in coral color. I decided I would upgrade the guitar over a year, so here’s the upgrade/set up list: truss adjustments, fret bar sanding, bone nut, locking tuners, D’addario 8s, Alnico 2 neck pickup, Fender 62’ custom single coil bridge pickup, individual brass saddles, 500k alpha tone pot, 500k volume pot, and a Fender top hat 3 way switch. I play through a Vox VT20X amp and get amazing tones. The Glarry semi-hollow with all upgrades total: 289.00 - the Vox amp was used from Sweetwater shipped 160.00. Right now I’m practicing those Gilmore deep bends. Lovin’ my Tele copy, and it’s stunning looks. 😊
Man you play a mean guitar, I love tele and Ill get one of these maybe 2. The Prince madcat FF copy is interesting too.
You read my mind , my birthday is coming and I’ve been thinking of getting the very same guitar thanks!!!
Whatever you are playing through and your guitar skills make it sound great.
Beautiful guitar playing man. Have a good weekend.
When a guitar is in that price range I hope it does come with a nice relic job! I’ve also heard the same hype with these guitars as with the HB guitars. I’m on my second HB now so I guess I should try a Firefly. Nice job sir!
Aw man, you beat us to the draw on this one pardner. Lol
Dan has one of these at his place that I recorded the unboxing, and I'm just waiting for him to do the playthrough. We got the Dreamcicle colored one. I also have the Sunburst one I got around a year ago. They are really great guitars. I don't think I have to tell you what a great guitarist you are Rich, but I'm going to anyway. You are truly a great guitarist.
Looks just like mine :). Seems like they are pretty...consistent. I concur on the neck dive. It’s fine though. For $120 it’s a playable guitar. With a good setup it can be pretty awesome...maybe some upgrades. Also mine came with another pick guard (mine was red lol) to swap out the neck pickup with a hum bucker if you want. I believe it is already routed out for it as well, judging from another guy on CZcams that did exactly that...
Man you sound great what is that jazz track brother you sound amazing I could listen to you alright
Wow, packing is really improved. I got a 338 2yrs ago that only had 3 pieces of 3x6" foam at 1/2" thick and the guitar was in terrible esthetic condition. Can't get those flys here in Canada and Amazon. Com won't ship here. I had it sent to a buds place and he brought it across to me. I've seen a few of these in review and seem to sound good for the cost. I like that blue but the orange catches my eye.
Rich, I was going to say that it reminded me of the Jonny Buckland model that he was playing a few years ago with Coldplay, only his was the ‘72, not the ‘69 on which this is obviously based. The issue you mentioned with the high nut slots was probably why playing an Ovation model that belonged to a friend of mine was always so torturous for me.
Last year when I first saw those videos demonstrating the Firefly models, it had the somewhat peculiar effect of inspiring me to get my second of two Epiphone Sheraton II models. Not that there’s anything wrong with them. They seem like the kind of models which you could get for a friend or relative that is curious about playing the guitar and is wanting something better than a toy but not in the same class as the Larry Carlton 345. As in those beginner guitar or bass packages marketed by Epiphone and Squier.
Amazing!
I know I've said it before Rich,
I just f'ing love your playing.
This Firefly sounds cool.
Ryan Burke from 60Cycle Hum channel would love this...
💕💕💕🎸🎸👍👍
Thanks Willis!
Ordered one from Guitars Garden for $126.99. Outside of the bridge being trash and replacing it with a Wilkinson brass saddle bridge for $20, it’s an excellent instrument. Tuners actually seem fairly decent and the pickups are impressive enough that they aren’t worth replacing either.
I have some good guitars including my classic Carvin and now a Kiesel, some better Ibanez, etc. I bought the Firefly 338 just to try it and wow! It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Excellent value. I’m checking this video out as now I’m considering a Firefly thinline to fill that gap.
cool as ice!
Thank for a great review brother. Currently looking for a thinline but with humbuckers. Definitely not a fan of the blue. For the money it sounds good. Your guitar skills are gold.
It amazes me how much guitar you can get for so little money , to get going learning these days you don't have to spend a lot to get something pretty playable , once setup to your liking (and they all need a setup, even the expensive guitars) you could have a pretty decent guitar suitable for a learner or even a mid range player. And at that sort of price point you don't mind if it gets dinged up or stolen. I like the fact you are not a guitar snob and will try cheaper models along with more expensive stuff...... Thanks for you efforts , love your reviews cos you don't spend a lot of time talkin shit we don't want or need to know , you just get on with it and give a real world demo and let the viewers decide........ excellent.
Thanks.
What are you running for your amp? I saw in your gear listing it says Marshall Origin 50. You have a great sound.
Thanks!, in this video I was running some analog pedals into line 6 helix on the vox AC 30 amp model, with some 4x12 cab IRs from helix and own hammer so a mix.
Your guitar reviews are the best. Always enjoy watching. I have avoided guitars at this price point. If I can convince my wife to buy another guitar it wouldn't be a Firefly if you know what I mean
Yup
I like this better than my American Tele....as a matter of fact, it's my favorite Tele. Anyone that changes the pickups are out of their mind. And I'm pretty dam good

Sounds pretty good for 120 bucks. But I think I would pay a little more for a Harley Benton.
Would it be worth putting a Warmouth neck on it?
Probably, body and the pickups are good.
How long did it take to get delivered?
2 days
Uh, wood IS biodegradable but that applies to most guitars.
It’s a Bonner nut.
How the hell does a guy buy one in Canada ?
Do they not ship to Canada?
Rich Bischoff - no just USA
Or mayb the other guys are just making an obscene profit , and want more . From here the paint job is worth 120 plus . Thts not a bad sound in the traks to me . $120 no kiddin .
Here is the thing that shocked me about this guitar. I usually have EQ a little to make a guitar sit in the track when I do a demo. No eqing on these tracks.... mind blown.
I have a seafoam green 1 for trade
PSA: All wooden guitars are biodegradable... The answer you are looking for was "sweatshops".
Wood is biodegradable. So... she's not wrong. 🤷♂️
Ha!
"Is it biodegradable??" NO of course not. Hardwoods will last for centuries.
Was a joke...
TF happed to your headstock?
Blasphemy I say!
Didn't like this guitar.
You didn't?
Hey Rich I am a big Rich Bischoff fan. I am subscribed and watch all your videos. I was inspired with your live Katana 50 live gigs. Yeah I have a .tele and some Epipbone and Gibson Les Paul's. I even liked the Harley Benson you bring to gigs. Not sure why I just didn't like this Firefly, just didn't. Funny thing is, besides my Gibson, Epiphone''s and Fender's..I love my Yamaha Pacifica's. They are underrated I have the 612FMII and the 212VFM. Nice work replacing the nut on the Epi Les Paul. That Pelham Blue is beautiful.
Thanks man, the verdict is still out on it for me. We will see... I need to gig it. Sounds good recorded though.
