- Explore Cairo, Egypt with me as a new exchange student! For my orientation, my school's international office took us on two days worth of excursions to some of Cairo's biggest attractions! More study abroad festivities are coming. I hope you enjoy Egypt from the lens of a Christian Black girl studying abroad✨

Would you recommend it? Have you faced any antisemitism? I am interested in doing this however I am jewish (I am not israeli though, I am American)... not practicing or religious though. How is life on campus? How is night live for students? How is the commute to Cairo and how often do you do it? How was transition to the culture & making friends? How would life be if I speak 0 arabic? How does the meal plan work / compare to meal plans in the US? How does the dorm situation work?
I would tbh, you just have to come with the intentionality and know that you have to put yourself out there to meet more people. As a Chistian, I have not faced anything despite being the minority. People are pretty respectful of religion in my opinion.
I just dropped a vlog about a typical week in my life so you should check that out!
night life is there if you'd like. it was popular for international students but not as much for locals.
I lived in off campus university owned apartments so commute was easy, u could take a free shuttle (came every 30 mins), walk like 7 mins, or take a cheap uber. the commute to old cairo was typically 30-45 mins.
transition was not bad. im nigerian so a lot of aspects reminded me of my own culture. you have to put yourself out there to make Egyptian friends but international friends come easy.
I didn't speak any arabic. it was tough some times esp bc local students prefer to speak it but it manageable. I always had a friend who can translate with me or had google translate ready.
There was no meal plan option when I went as they just opened up their dining hall but I believe they are about to start one. food is cheap tho so a meal plan wasn't even necessary fr.
U can live on campus, off campus university owned apartments, or find housing on your own (cheapest but can be hard is you don't speak arabic, also less convenient).
