It's good to see someone making food from scratch; especially in the slow cooker. Most videos I see for the slow cooker are about adding a tin of this, a packet of that and frozen vegetables! Will have to have a go at this, thank you.

This is perfect to make for today. We got our first snow overnight , still falling here in Collingwood,Ontario Canada. It's a month later here than usual, can't complain. Our son in Calgary has had snow for a month. My chopped leeks are in the freezer. I like to mash some of the potatoes when the soup is finished.

My Scottish Mum and both Grandmothers made this soup. They never used stock cubes though. My Mum used a ham hock or even bacon. Cooked the ham or bacon the night before in a large pot and put it in the fridge overnight. Any fat was easily skimmed off the next day before veggies were added. Whole dried peas were added with veggies. Pieces of the ham were added to the soup also. Wonderful soup.... a meal by itself !!!

I like this soup idea! Just one quick note: I never knew of Ham Stock Cubes. I admit, to my surprise, I learn something everyday! Yeppers, they're out there! 😁😁😁 Going to definitely give this a try. Thanks, cheer, ol' great teacher!

Wow that looks lovely with a small amount of ingredients that most people will have, so low costs and warming for cold nights. You really do some lovely recipes ideas that in the time of rising prices will help so many people. Thank you

Bravo on trying out the crockpot( slow cooker) again. Plus excited to try the tattie soup. I have never seen ham stock here in the states but will browse around and see if any place carries them. If not I will do what my grandmother did with her bean soup, she added a ham bone with some meat still on it.
The soup.looks yummy for a cold winter night.
    Thanks from across the pond.

That looks absolutely wonderful. I too grew up with potatoe soup. I will try your Grans recipe. We use same veggies, but I use chicken stock and cream at the end. My boys always request it when they come for a visit. Thank you

I keep the tops on the carrots until I finish grating, using them as a handle - safer for clumsy cooks like me.

I was worried about the ham stock; not sure I can get that locally (I will check) but will look out for them if in a bigger town from where I live.

You cannae beat a good big bowl of warming tattie soup, was it cold or hot water you added before cooking? My late partner’s mother used buy butcher’s sliced sausage & roll it into wee meatballs & add that into her tattie soup, I’ve never tried it myself but it would add some protein to this soup if you were having it for your main meal Thanks once again for sharing 🙏 👍
