- In this video I share a brief synopsis of how our hybrid solar system of both on grid and off grid works using freezers as the load for the batteries/generator. Also I give you a look at how we organize our freezers to store a years worth of food.

hi shelby i live in england , semi rural , but when we have bad winters we get snowed or iced in . roads become unusable.we live on 3 acres of land ,which my daughter has a house on , and 3 grandchildren which is fantastic for us. we have a bungalow . l have 5 freezers, which i allways keep stocked , also have pantry and cubourds full. it gives me a great sense of security for my family. you are the queen of organization. like you years ago , we lived from month to month . love from england xxx
My late husband would have loved this video. We always dreamed to live relatively self sufficiently and buy in bulk etc. Cancer stymied those plans. Perhaps one day I’ll fulfil our dream. Thanks for sharing.

You can always start small, within the means you’re in now. Really this is a lifestyle and mindset. My mom taught me how to do this within our means when my dad became a stay at home dad while he sought a better job and mom went to work. (She was making less than Dad had at his previous job, but Dad wanted to be more involved in our day-to-day lives and was at the time missing out on seeing his kids grow, due to his job. So they decided to make the change, but it was rough for about 2 years while it all got sorted out and finances were balanced out again. It was a lot of sacrifice at the time, but so much was learned. From budgeting to stocking up during sales, to ultimately being grateful for any and all. It starts with choosing to be honest about the means at hand and living within them or below them to accomplish goals. It takes some sacrifice, but ultimately with some dedication and time, it starts to balance out and you have a rotating stockpile/pantry/etc. Start small. Take $5,$10,$20,$50 whatever is in your means to put towards stocking up. Stores have rotating sales. And build that stockpile. It has its perks to not live in a rural area for shopping sales and stocking up with small budgets. But whatever the challenges, it’s totally possible. Simply take one step towards your goal at a time. Mom taught me to have 6-12 months on hand and I cannot tell you how relieved I felt when the pandemic hit last winter and I didn’t need to run to the store or stand in long lines or worry about going out.
I hope I’ve been able to express myself. It’s totally doable and unfortunately sometimes the idea is we need X amount of money to do it. I surely don’t have lots of $$ But really starting is the key, we need to start somewhere right?❤️

At the end Shelby shared her inventory list. That would go a long way into making sure she uses what she has. But I would also love to see a video dedicated to her organisation systems around avoiding food waste. Having so much inventory gives me anxiety as I don’t know how to manage it.
She did say that they are involved in a local good bank and that they donate meat sometimes! Maybe they donate before it goes bad!

Oh my! You are so blessed. I am a medically disable 62 yr. Old woman who lives alone. I barely scrape by each month. At present I am without a driveable automobile and have no way to doc or grocery without bothering my neighbor. Live in a rural town in deep South MS.

What a system For power and food storage ya’ll have developed. I had a good laugh because my freezer atop of the frig has enough room for a ice maker that takes up half of the space. I couldn’t store a quarter of a shelf of one of your freezers shelves. Thanks for sharing, very interesting and blessings with love!
Perfect timing! I'm just about ready to defrost my freezers and reorganize them before the holidays and the whole beef purchase. We have 3 plus two fridge freezers and that still isn't enough. 7 is a lot but I say go big or go home. Love your solar system and the explanation was super easy to understand!! TFS 🙂

I accidentally found your shopping haul for winter you uploaded last year. Now I'm binge watching your other videos. I really like it when you explained on how you used the solar energy for the freezers. But when you showed your freezer inventories, I was like Holy Moly, your organizational skill is just on a whole different level. I live in a tropical country so I don't do prepping for different seasons. But I love watching people who lives in 4 seasons country doing and sharing their prepping.
I really appreciate the solar system grid and off grid description. The visual made it very understandable. It has been extremely cold at about 20 below zero the last few nights where I live. I love this. It only took me 2 days to watch it with my kids🤦🏾♀️. I have 2 chest freezers. I want to add 2 uprights. I have Tesla solar. I didn't know when I bought my house 2 months ago that it wouldn't work in an outage. Now I'm looking into getting some off grid solar, even if the 2 systems won't work together. If I can plug into that in an emergency it would be great. Like the others I think you need your own show.
